Glenn and Donna truly went above and beyond to make our stay feel special — not just comfortable, but genuinely magical. Their property is something else entirely: a charming little animal sanctuary nestled within a beautiful, sprawling landscape just waiting to be explored. Every corner of the home was immaculate, and you could tell that real care and thought had gone into every single detail. We left feeling like we’d stumbled onto something rare. Highly recommend.
The hosts are great and the home is amazing. 20 minutes from downtown Asheville and 30 to Black Mountain. This was our 2nd stay here and hope to do many more in the coming years.
We booked this house for a birthday vacation and it was exactly what we needed. The property sits on beautiful acreage, so it felt peaceful and tucked away, yet close enough to town that we never felt too far from anything. The house was cozy, and had everything we needed. We loved waking up to the quiet countryside and ending the day in the hottub. The host was communicative and made check-in super easy. Would absolutely stay here again next time we’re in the Asheville area!
Very clean home. Love the decor. Love the soaking tub! Has plenty of land to hike and loved the farm with all the animals!!! Plenty of space to park. Would definitely come back with family or friends. Close to biltmore and downtown Asheville but just far enough for that country feel. The Hosts were great!
Our family of four so enjoyed our getaway. The home is clean, spacious, thoughtfully updated, and comfortable. We had everything we needed and more. I slept better than I have in ages and I hope we get to visit again.
This was an amazing stay. Donna and Glenn are wonderful and very responsive. They’ve done a great job with the renovation of this old house. It’s very modern and cozy. Well stocked kitchen if you want to cook and multiple sitting areas. The automatic fireplaces are an extra cozy touch which we used each day and night. The house was very clean as well. Beds were super comfortable. There is a conservation area within a short distance that has a donkey, goats and sheep, peacocks, chickens and cats that we drove up the hill to see. We got to meet the animals and explore the property a bit, though being December it was quite cold. All in all a very lovely stay and would stay again.
We stayed here for a few days after a busy week in Orlando (alllllllll the parks) so we wanted a nice relaxing stop on our way back north. This farmhouse was the perfect place. It is a gorgeous home that has been updated with everything we could have possibly wanted. It was clean and comfortable. Our hosts left a lovely gift basket with wine and treats for our stay, which we did not expect but really appreciated. The kids had fun exploring the property and meeting the animals. We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again if in the area.
Could not have asked for a better experience! The hosts Donna and Glen are wonderful and their property is truly magic. We all can’t wait to come stay again!
This house was everything as advertised but better! Perfect getaway! Very quiet area, great porches to relax on, and the inside was so pretty and very clean! Would definitely stay again! The host was very easy to communicate with and was very kind!
This property was exactly as advertised. Everything was clean and the hosts were easy to communicate with. The house is located a little out of the way, but that was what we were looking for. During our trip, we visited the Great Smokies and Asheville, and the property location made it easy to do both.
This house was perfect for the adults in our family to escape the rat race. From having coffee on the back patio every morning to drinks in the hot tub under the stars, it was amazing. We had everything we needed for a week of relaxation. We loved it so much that we will be back very soon.
This house was the most beautiful VRBO we have ever stayed in! It had everything we needed plus. It was quiet and peaceful. I cannot give enough descriptive words for this magnificent house and host!
Absolutely exquisite property. Our hosts are beyond gracious and kind. Everything is above and beyond expectations! We feel truly lucky to have had this magical opportunity to stay here with our family. We are grateful and happy. Thanks again Donna and Glen!
We had a great stay. The house is beautifully restored. It was well stocked and impeccably clean. The property is beautiful. We enjoyed roaming the farm and meeting the animals. Glenn and Donna were perfect hosts. The farm fresh eggs and shitake mushrooms were a particular treat!
This was such a perfect find! We will definitely be coming back with friends and family. Beautifully done and lots of attention to detail. The perfect getaway spot for a small group of travelers and the location is easy to get to. The hosts made us feel very welcome.
The Payne House is clean, beautiful, well appointed, very comfortable and even the wonderful pictures don't do it justice!!!
Donna and Glen were accommodating in way and went above and beyond to made our stay enjoyable.
You will not be disappointed in this home!!!!!
The house is stunning! Every detail has been thought through and the decor was absolutely the picture of relaxed luxury. The instructions for check in and check out were simple and the home is stocked with everything you need for a mountain getaway.
The location is so perfect and we loooooved seeing the peacocks, donkey, and goats!
I could not be happier that we chose this location for our getaway! Can’t wait to book again!

My husband and I moved from Florida to get away from it all. The area is beautiful and peaceful. We love animals and wanted a place were we could expand our furry family and enjoy the outdoors
Why they chose this property
This beautiful farmhouse was abandon and in disrepair for many years before it went for auction. We live across the street and jumped at the chance to own this place. Over the last year and a half 2020-21 we remodeled the house and bought the farm back to life. Our ultimate goal is to have a retired farm animal rescue on the property to give hard working animals a place to live out their golden years. The funds from the farmhouse will help us help the animals!
What makes this property unique
Fresh air! Beautiful smokey mountains! Peace & quiet! A brand new interior inside an 1878 historic farmhouse!
