We stayed at this house during a ski weekend, and it worked out great. Lots of space - two living rooms, kitchen, three bedrooms - and it was very well-equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed, lots of towels, a washer/dryer we didn't use, lots of streaming options on the TV, comfortable mattresses, etc. It was a 17-minute drive to Sugar Mountain, 15 to restaurants in Blowing Rock, 35 to restaurants and the bowling alley in Boone. Would definitely recommend this house to people looking for somewhere to stay in that general area.
We skied Sugar mountain. This was convenient and cozy. Appliances worked great (which makes a mom of 5 very happy). It was very spacious. Plenty of room to sleep 7.
This house was a perfectly relaxing place to get some rest and peace. The location was excellent for doing the thrift shopping we adore, the hiking we love, and the small town vibe we need. The host was awesome and the house completely in order. We even had an incredible 4th fireworks show viewable from the driveway. Perfect place for us.
Cozy, clean cottage...very cute and comfortable! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were only about 5 miles from Sugar Mountain, which was nice because we went skiing. Host was easily accessible. Highly recommend.
I drove from Kentucky to meet up with my son and his wife who flew in from England for a weekend ski trip (mid-Feb.). The house was exactly as listed and actually much larger than I expected. It had everything we needed to feel at home. The kitchen is fully stocked, which made cooking meals much easier. The host was very quick to reply to messages. The neighborhood is quiet and I felt safe arriving after dark alone.
We loved this place, it was exactly what we were looking for and expecting. Having just one bathroom sure was a challenge for 6 adults, but we managed. The place is conveniently located, just 15 minutes from Sugar Mountain, walking distance from a CVS and a short drive from the town’s well-stocked supermaket. There isn’t much to do in town, but all the area’s main attractions are just a short drive away.
Quick recommendation: download the area map on your gps of choice before heading there from the city, chances are you’ll lose connection on the mountain for a while and a wrong turn could get you far from your destination.
We traveled to the small town of Newland to stay at this cozy cottage. The kitchen and bathroom amenities covered everything we needed for a long weekend. The house was clean, comfortable with a large backyard. The neighborhood was quiet. The location is close to town but Newland is quite small and there weren’t a lot of options for restaurants but there are plenty in adjacent towns. We spent one day Sugar Mountain, one day hiking Grandfather Mountain and one in Roan State Park. The drive to the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway is close by and very worth the trip just to see that! The hosts were great! We will be back once the rhododendrons are in bloom! Thank you!
My family was in the area for a bouldering competition at Hound’s Ear. This place was close and easy. The property manager is very responsive and the check in and check out process was effortless. The place is stocked with everything you could need though we didn’t need anything. Our favorite part was the backyard and back porch. We had a bonfire one night and loved the Adirondack chairs (they even have wood and fire starter set out for you in carport) and the other night we got home late after awards ceremony and really enjoyed hanging on back porch with candles lit. Great WiFi and easy losing and unloading the car thanks to the carport. Highly recommend if you are going to be in the area and need a comfortable place to stay (all beds were very comfortable in our crew’s opinion). Bonus: the manager left and yummy chocolate bar and a bottle of wine for us too. Can’t say enough about how great the management is. We would definitely stay here again.
The house is clean and comfortable, inside and out. The house has everything you need to enjoy a week's stay.
The owner is great and helpful if you need anything.
Walking distance to coffee, pastries, and ice cream at Big Mike's. Also walking distance to the community swimming pool which is very clean and well-managed.
Only a 12-minute commute to the top of Grandfather Mountain. Central location to all the other towns around the area like Linville and Boone. There's a great Mexican restaurant a 2-minute drive into town.
The only thing is that the internet package is a very slow one. 45Mbps download, and up to 2 on the upload. We were not able to do any work from this house, and when we tried to stream or download, you could only use one device at a time in the house.
This is not an issue at all if you're on vacation and going to be out enjoying yourselves during your stay.
We look forward to staying again in the future if we get a chance.
We came to the area for a getaway from work and school and this home delivered just that. It was perfect for our needs. We used it as a home base to travel around the area. Its central location is a great bonus. The outside area looked wonderful, but we didn't get to enjoy it as it was rainy and cold most of the stay. Brandon was easy to work with and the home was exactly as advertised. GPS had us go the opposite way on the road the house is on, but that is not surprising in the mountains. The only issue we had was too many of the plug-in air fresheners, but that's a personal preference. We don't do heavy scents as my husband has a lung disease. After unplugging them it took a couple days for the smells to dissipate. If that is something your sensitive to just let Brandon know and the cleaning crew will be happy to remove them before your stay. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful home with us!
Planned a quick trip to Grandfather Mtn to enjoy the fall of the year but all hotels booked. Lucky for us we found this cozy home settled in between the beautiful mountains! The home is only 15-20 min from Grandfather Mtn., Tweetsie Railroad and other great sites! The home was perfect for our family of 5, all the necessities, and very clean! Check in process easy and booking was stress free. First time ever using VRBO, great experience! Thank you Mr Hodges!
This house would be all 5 stars except for the neighborhood. We hard dogs barking at night and the neighborhood looks pretty rundown.
With that being said the house was exactly as expected and was perfect for our short stay.
Close to Linville and Banner Eljk. Comfy beds and living area: very clean. Would stay again
There is a lovely fire pit in the backyard where we made Smores and opened Xmas gifts around the fire. Brandon even provided a bundle of firewood. It was a great stay, even if the weather was less than cooperative. Would stay again.
