The Tranquility Suite at The Mansion by the Square
About this space:
The Gage/Murphy Mansion is a crown jewel from the early days of Prescott and located just 2 blocks away from Courthouse Square and Whiskey Row. Originally constructed in 1895 as the family home of business tycoon E.B. Gage, and later railroad tycoon Frank M. Murphy, this restored monument of local history has been just steps away from the heart of Prescott for over 125 years.
The space:
The entire home is 7274 sq ft with a total of 10 units spread out amongst 3 floors and a basement, each unique to one another in size, layout, and design – come back and stay at them all for a different experience each time! You will not find another gem like this in all of Prescott.
Unit 3 - “The Tranquility Suite” is upstairs on the 2nd level and is approx. 550 sq ft with 1 bed/1 bath. The space has 1 large bedroom with a queen size bed and 32” TV, a living room with a 42” TV, a bathroom with a stand-up shower and a large cast iron tub, a washer/dryer in unit (supplies not provided), and a full kitchen for your use and enjoyment. It has a private balcony with 2 chairs, and lovely natural lighting throughout - a great place to relax and read a book.
Guest access:
The building itself has two main entrances. One is through the front door of the home which can be accessed from the front porch on the north side of the house that faces Gurley St. The other is located through the Mansion’s side door on the West side of the building, which you can see from S Alarcon St. The side door is closer to the parking, but the main entrance is a bit more “grand” – feel free to use either.
Unit 3’s entrance is best accessed through the Mansion’s side door on the West side of the building. Enter the building through there, walk up the stairs to the 2nd level, and the door to “The Tranquility Suite” will be to the right.
Other things to note:
Please respect and take care of the home during your stay. Much of it is original and cannot be replaced.
As much of it is original please expect some creaking floors and other noises and sights that come with a home that’s well over 100 years old. We think it adds to the appeal! But not everyone may think the same way so, just a heads up 😊.
Parking is first come first serve and is limited to 1 vehicle per unit. There is an upper level parking lot accessed via the private road immediately to the south of the building, and a smaller lower level parking lot on the same level as the building. Street parking is also available.
The location is amazing - just 2 short blocks from the square! However, like any other hotels or stays that are near a city center there may be some noise (mostly passing traffic) to deal with. The south side and lower floor rooms (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 2B) are quieter. And the ones closest to Gurley St (4, 7, 1B) are slightly noisier. Some guests notice it, others don’t, but we thought it deserved at least a mention to consider when booking.
All rooms have at least 1 portable A/C unit for those summer months when it can get a little warm. The larger units have 2 in them. There are fans in each room as well. For the winter months there is a boiler system that generates heat for the house and all rooms.
All TV’s are subscribed to Hulu Live TV which includes 75+ channels and all Hulu content. Other streaming apps are installed but depending on the service you may need to login to them using your own account info to access content. Please log out of them before leaving to prevent the use of your account by others.
All guests have access to the common areas of the home as well as the outside common areas. While you are free to explore the inside of the Mansion please be considerate of other guests that may be staying and do your best not to disturb them, including keeping noise down to a reasonable level.
There is a shared laundry room on the south side of the building. Laundry supplies are not provided but there are 2 washers and 2 dryers available for use if you provide your own.
A commercial water softener is connected to the house. Its still not advisable to drink directly from the faucet but the showers and linens should feel nice! Enjoy!
Please read the Guest book in the unit for more details on the Mansion, it’s unique history, important house rules, and other useful info.
We want you to have the most comfortable and enjoyable stay possible, so if there’s anything we can do to make your stay better please just let us know!

Really enjoyed staying in the Tranqulity Suite! It was very cute and cozy. The area was also very quiet and we were able to walk to restaurants and shops. We will definitely be back!
This is a great place to stay near the courthouse. At the same cost as a hotel room you get a full suite of rooms in a restored 1895 mansion with all the modern amenities.
Wonderful property. The hosts are super responsive through the Vrbo app. The bed was super comfortable and there was no shortage of pillows. The host provides basic cleaning supplies and a small amount of tea and keurig pods and creamer, and there’s a Brita pitcher in the full sized fridge you can use for water if you don’t want to carry bottled water up stairs. Just a very comfortable quiet room very close to Whiskey Row and Prescott College.
We had an amazing time, the suite was clean and organized and there were so many little touches that made us feel like they really thought about how to take care their guests. There was even a sound machine to help you sleep. There was a little coffee area and a water filter in the fridge so you didn't have to buy water. All the cooking tools and kitchen items you could need. The room was warm and we were able to open the windows and door to get cool fresh air as well. The bed and chairs were comfy and the suite was cozy. We enjoyed the claw foot tub as well, we didn't use them but the washer and dryer were an added bonus. We especially loved the walkability, just a stroll down the hill to the town Square and whiskey row. Really had a pleasant time and the hosts were quick to respond and helpful. We hope to come back in the future!
My first time in a VRBO. I don't normally travel because I despise motel rooms. It was so nice to be able to feel like the place was clean enough to walk barefoot and sit on the furniture. I was in town for a meeting. I definitely had the the best accommodations. The place had everything, was clean, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay accommodations
Lovely mansion just 1 block from downtown Prescott. This unit is on the second floor with a separate bedroom, bathroom with stacked washer/dryer, a living room connected to a kitchen with a 3 seat bar.
We were here for 4 nights and enjoyed the stay and accommodations greatly. Look forward to our bext trip.
We arrived fairly late. We did not have to worry about waking anyone since all Information was sent to us in the message from property management about code to enter the room. The room was clean and wonderful. We will definitely return to this property!
This is a great room! Loved the location and all the historical feel of the place!!! Loved the outside sitting area for drinking coffee. The only negative... the bed was not King size.
My husband and I came up for a relaxing getaway. I had seen this place a few times and always wanted to stay.
We finally got the chance and I am not at all sorry we did.
The suite was very clean and super cute. It's very close to downtown and my husband loved the claw foot bathtub.
It was the perfect mix of modern and vintage we were wanting. The bed was comfy and we loved the balcony right outside our bedroom!!
We will definitely be back.
That home has so much character. Its in a great location. The tub was to die for yet took forever to fill up. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. Parking was a little tight but we had a truck. It is understandable due to it being an older home, there is plenty of parking for eveyone staying regardless. We loved our stay! 9/10
Great place for a couple, small but has all you need. Prescott weather was great and the proximity to Whiskey Row, just a short walk away is nice. The condo is a bit noisy as it is just off the main drag into town.
The property and the room were both very nice as well as clean. Our room had a great kitchen to keep a little food so as to not require eating out every meal. The main areas of downtown are an easy walk so we mostly stayed parked at the property and walked to shopping, bars and restaurants during our stay. We went to see a concert in Prescott Valley and it was an easy drive. Overall I would very likely stay again if we need to be in Prescott.
We had a wonderful stay in the Tranquility Suite. We loved the history of the building, it was extremely clean and well kept, quiet, and great access to Whiskey Row and the historic courthouse. We will definitely stay in the Mansion by the Square again.
