Why they chose this property
If you get one chance to show someone what Texas is all about, you go to the Texas Hill Country. But the Hill Country is a 25-county region, far too large to see in one day. So you’ve got to focus on the best part of the Hill Country, Castell Texas. It’s isolated. There’s a river for fishing or kayaking, and the landscape is in pristine condition. It’s the water, the wildlife, the wide-open spaces, the hills, and the granite. And it’s all in Castell, on the Llano River.
The Llano River is a spring-fed stream of the Edwards Plateau and is widely known for its scenic beauty and home to the Guadalupe Bass, the Texas state fish. Sometimes referred to as the "Texas Trout" because of its fondness for faster flowing water and its fighting ability when hooked. (TPWD also stock 2500+ Rainbow trout in the winter months).
The stone here is scientifically proven to be older than the dinosaurs and you can’t help but feel a recharge from what is referred to as the Llano Uplift. An ancient geological phenomenon where many Native Americans chose to settle and later a group of Germans called the society of freethinkers. To this day, some of the descendants reside in the area.
At night, you’ll get distracted by shooting stars as you stare into the middle of the Milky Way. And although maybe seven people live there, you’ll feel right at home at the Castell General Store. And, when you have to show someone your ideal version of Texas, tell them you’re going to Castell. And when they ask, “What’s Castell?”, you don’t have to tell them anything. Show them your pictures of the river in a canoe or kayak and then end the day in rocking chairs under the sky.
That will be your answer.
P.S. Castell now has the distinction of being the oldest surviving settlement in Llano County.
