About this property

Casselman Cabin Retreat

Casselman Cabin Retreat is a completely remolded cabin overlooking the Casselman River. Our riverfront property with upper and lower wrap around decks offer beautiful views, serenity, and relaxation. Our clean, well-equipped home is situated in the Laurel Highlands Mountains and is minutes away from the quaint little town of Confluence. Enjoy being steps away from the Casselman River, which is known for great Bass fishing. You can also grab an inner tube and take a relaxing float to Confluence. Casselman Cabin Retreat is also only one mile to the Great Allegheny Passageway Bike Trail.

Casselman Cabin Retreat is cozy enough for a romantic getaway but also offers a spacious, open floorplan which allows larger families, multiple families, and groups of friends to gather and socialize. The cabin will accommodate 15 people comfortably with 5 bedrooms, futon and 2 full bathrooms. Our kitchen is a delight to cook in and you can do so while spending time with loved ones sitting at the island or nearby dining room table. The home also includes a propane fireplace and an electric fireplace to snuggle up to.

The best place for a little R & R is in our well shaded back yard that has an open view to the Casselman River. Our propane gas grill is perfect for an outdoor dinner with a relaxing glass of wine or cup of coffee afterwards. Also enjoy making mountain pies and roasting marshmallows at the campfire with comfortable seating. Cornhole games, tossing a football or shooting some hoops on our small concrete court is always a great time. Casselman Cabin Retreat is also pet friendly (fees will apply) therefore, our completely fenced in back yard creates a spacious, safe area for your fur baby.

Featured amenities include but are not limited to; Dish and Smart TV in every bedroom and the living room, highspeed wireless internet, free local calls, washer/dryer, hair dryers, towels and bed linens, Keurig and regular coffee pot along with other small appliances. AT&T and Verizon both have a cell tower in Confluence and both work very well.

Casselman Cabin Retreat is open year-round, as we celebrate the natural beauty of our area during all four seasons. The place was clean and spacious; the owners were super easy to get in touch with if we had any questions. I would definitely recommend this place, and I know I will be staying here again and again.

Fun in Confluence

Property was lovely as expected, our family had a terrific time. The cabin had what we needed and was decorated for CHRISTmas. Renters should know the only store for miles is a Dollar General and the wifi was terrible.

Very enjoyable stay

The cabin was well stocked, spotless and comfortable. The yard was fenced in and perfect for the dog and the toddlers to run around. The road beside the cabin is very close to the house and some drivers drove way too fast so kids on their bikes was a little scary. But we had a great time and I want to reiterate that the place was incredibly clean. This experience was just as it should be-great communication and a comfortable home away from home.

Truly a hidden gem!!

Our experience at this property was amazing! The property owner was so great to deal with and very accommodating. The house is very clean and the layout was perfect for larger groups. We could easily fit our group of 8 with plenty of room to spare. The surrounding area is perfect for anyone looking to fish, swim, boat, hike, bike...ect. So many activities in close proximity but still far enough away that the house is pretty private. I would highly recommend this place, you won't be disappointed!

Great location, very clean

We had a great visit at this location. The owner was very helpful when we had trouble navigating the heating unit. Location is very quiet and near a river, which was what we wanted. The neighbors' dogs were running around outside but luckily were friendly and left us alone. Lots of space and very clean. Some of the mattresses were a little soft--2 people in our party had significant back issues and needed firmer mattresses but luckily we had lots of beds to choose from.

This was a small family getaway

The property was a great location. Nice quiet back country road with the sounds of the river running across the street. What made our trip more enjoyable was the trains going by up on the hill. There was plenty of parking as stated, we had 4 vehicles in driveway with room leftover. The only drawback was the neighbors pig that made a visit. Home owner took care of issue immediately. We would stay there again.

Fall Getaway

I had never been to the Ohiopyle area despite living in the region for 17 years. We found this house and it was a great base for enjoying all that the region has to offer. The water and air temps was as it was November, but in warmer months the proximity to the river would be fun to enjoy and play in. The house was exactly as listed. All kitchen equipment / tools were available and ready. House was clean. Checkout process was easy.

October Trip

The property is very nice and as described, the location was not far from the many scenic areas we planned on visiting to take in the fall foliage. Due to the rain we didn't have the oppurtunity to explore the area around the cabin but as stated in the description it does sit direcly across from the water and it's not far from the bike trail. The only issue (not the fault of the owner though) the neighbors across the street were loud throughout the night with what sounded like they were having motorcycle races; it was unfortunate on our last night's stay. Overall I would recommend staying at this cabin especially if you like hiking, biking, nature trails, and the scenic landscapes and October is the the perfect month; and there was also the incredible Haunted Hollow attraction which was unexpectedly only 20 minutes away.

Family Get Away at Casselman Cabin

We had an incredible stay at the Casselman Cabin property. The location in Penn allowed for a somewhat centralized point where family members from Baltimore MD and Dayton OH were able to meet for a get away. The house was as described with multiple bedrooms, spacious eating area and a large family room area where we were able to play games and watch movies. The kitchen was large and adequately equipped but would benefit with the addition of some sauce pans. There were plenty of towels, wash cloths and linens, and all of the pillows, bedding and linens smelled fresh and clean. The pictures of the cabin are accurate but we were surprised at how close the proximity that the house was to the road and to the neighbor. The Casselman Cabin was an excellent fit for our family and we would definitely rent it again for a family fun retreat. Thank you to our hosts

Birthday weekend

Overall the house was great! We did enjoy the fire pit. It was dog friendly with fenced yard and that was a big plus. It was a rainy weekend and the house was big enough to comfortably accommodate 13 and a dog since we all pretty much were inside except for one night. I did not like that we had a neighbor a stone throw away and the River did not have great access. The internet was super slow, but we are used to that and no big deal. There were only two bathrooms which we were aware of and that was dodgy at times lol I would give this house a 9.0/10 for aesthetically pleasing, but view I would give 6.5/10, and nothing you can do about that. Would recommend staying there for large groups and super easy to communicate with owner and close to many outdoor tourist locations, but due to the rain, we did not partake in those. Gotta take the pros with the cons and the pros outweighed the cons for sure.

Beautiful place

The place was beautiful. We enjoyed cooking on the grill and in the firepit. We enjoyed what we called the "camp cat" we didnt let it in the house but there was cat food there from someone so we fed it. The only thong I think I would recommend is maybevlights by firepit and coming down the steps going to firepit.

Bachelorette Weekend Stay

My friend wanted to have a camp bachelorette party without needing tents… this rental was perfect! Secluded enough that we could hear the river just across the street, frogs and birds chirping, but close enough to a town where we could run for any essentials we forgot. The fridge had stopped working before we arrived and the hosts were over in a few minutes to check on things and offered to buy us new coolers and bags of ice. The fridge was replaced the next day! Overall great house, and great hosts!

Delightful River Retreat

The house is charming and immaculate and positioned at the end of a road and just above the Casselman River. The host is friendly and flexible. While ours was a winter visit, the abundant forests, rivers, walking and biking paths, state parks and historic sites make this a warm weather base for active people.

Thanksgiving at the Casselman cabin

The house was clean, well furnished and had a kitchen with more than enough cuttery, dinnerware, serving dishes and pots and pans. It had 2 crock pots which was nice to have. The owners were very receptive to any questions we had. They also responded quickly when having difficulty with the heat. The bed situation is in need of some chamges. Nearly EVERY BED in the house had divets from wear and tear. And nearly each bed was covered with a memory foam topper.

Welcome to the Casselman Cabin Retreat. We are the “Smith’s”, better known as TJ & Deneane. I am a Personal Care Home Administrator, and my husband, TJ, is a Highway Construction Consultant. Both of us were raised in Confluence and attended Turkeyfoot Valley School. We’ve remained locals and live 5 minutes from the cabin. We are a blended family and blessed with a son and 3 daughters. Growing up we spent a lot of time swimming, fishing, rafting and kayaking in the local rivers and as we get a little older we are enjoying kayaking, paddle boarding & boating on the lake! We feel that we are very fortunate to live in an area with so much natural beauty all around us.

Why they chose this property

My father, Mick Miller, originally built this home in 1993. Although it has had an addition added on and several renovations through the years, his vision of the log siding and wrap around double decks remain and continue to charm all who enter. From the very start of him building this home our family called it “the cabin”.

Not only was it built by my father, I also moved into the home as a single mother in 2001 and this is where I raised my daughters until 2017. With the large open living room and dining/kitchen area this home has hosted many family and holiday dinners and celebrations. The cabin will always have a piece of my heart for those reasons.

As my daughters grew older “the cabin” was the meeting place for all of their friends. Every weekend it was filled with kids laughing and having fun. Creating a vacation rental where friends and families could continue to make fond memories, relax and enjoy life seemed like the perfect purpose for our home.

What makes this property unique

While the upper and lower decks along the side of the house and the back yard area provide a private area with a river view, my favorite spot was always on the front porch swing. It wasn’t as private, as you could see the neighbors home and farm, however, I always enjoyed looking at the cows graze and especially liked seeing the baby goats, piglets and calves.
