We didn't mind roughing it without running water & compostable toilet but what we didn't pay for was to be expected and told we had to clean the fire pit before using it(covered in branches at least 2feet high) and that yellow jackets were prominent on the front of the cabin. Also, the uninvited carpenter ants inside the cabin (hundreds). We felt the outside sheds and the inside entrance were a fire hazard. So we left 2 days early. We wouldn't recommend this rental to anybody.

As I reported to VRBO these people arrived in a foul mood, obviously had not read the listing, and after reading her comments containing wild exaggerations and fabricated complaints (amounting to slander) "Hundreds of ants, really?) I may seek legal counsel as this slander affects my rental business. On a more humorous note though, the curious claim of fire hazard is quite shocking coming from a couple of Quebec chain smokers who rented a non-smoking rental, ignored many house rules and apparently.can't read.
I would never rent to these people again.
Upon arriving at the property, the Host was not there and when we contacted her she refused to let us into the property because she said we were late. The advertised check in time was after 3pm and we arrived at 7:30pm. The host claimed we "broke her rules" and therefore she did not need to let us in.
She told us to find a hotel for the night and we could be admitted tomorrow. We had driven over 6 hours from our home to this remote location and had pets with us. We declined her suggestion and she became very very hostile towards us and started to make up lies about us on a hastily posted review on VRBO.
Fortunately, VRBO staff sided with us and assisted us with obtaining a refund and finding a new place to stay.
This host has absolutely no concept of what they are doing or how anything pertaining to property rental works. She is hostile and makes up wild lies about things you never said or agreed to and does not understand the basic concept of renting out her property.
She completely upended our only vacation of the year and we had to makes all new plans and find hotels last minute that allow pets. All of this amounted to many surprise costs that we had to pay out of pocket.
Book somewhere else unless you want a hostile host to ruin your vacation.

Mr. Tammi failed to disclose that he was bringing more pets than he claimed on his request to rent, until after I had accepted his reservation, but I was still looking forward to meeting them and their pets. I even offered a vacuum cleaner (to keep the mess that caged birds make), under control during their stay. He did not acknowledge the offer and did not thank me and that seems to describe how he operates.
Mr. Tammi’s review did not support the facts as shared with VRBO. He claimed he drove over 6 hours to get to my rental, yet I have a text from him, sent from Hamilton at 1:17 pm claiming that he could make it to my location by 6 pm. Lots of questionable stories from this guy.
He didn’t make the 6 pm check in, this was the second check in time that he missed that day. And after missing the 6 pm one, there was no further communication from him until her texted at 7:30 pm to say he had arrived. By 6 pm, I had already waited for him for 5 hours at the rental. When he texted to say he could be there by six, he was advised not to come any later because I can’t drive at night and I live an hour away so needed time to drive home during daylight hours.
But Mr. Tammi chose to ignore that warning and came anyway for some unknown reason.
Mr. Tammi showed no understanding or compassion for someone with a visual handicap and disregarded my directions. Hosts take note. It was Mr. Tammi who became hostile and immediately began threatening to write a bad review and reverse the charges on his Visa, even though he caused the problem.
It appears that Mr. Tammi thinks hosts are hotel operators, waiting to check him in at whatever time he feels like arriving. Mr. Tammi did not receive a refund from me contrary to his review. VRBO closed the case once they reviewed the facts.

Why they chose this property
This log cabin sits on an original land grant from 1840. Modern features found in the home when it was purchased, are gradually being removed to take it back to it's original appearance at the period of construction in the 1800's. This has been a years long process for us. We also strive to protect and support the flora and fauna of the area. It is a wonderful retreat, steeped in history and surrounded by nature.
What makes this property unique
The cabin is very rustic. It will appeal to those familiar with camping. it is like camping with a roof over your head. you will encounter the same flora and fauna that you would if you were tent camping. There are many wild animals that cross in front of the cabin, mostly at night, from bear to weasel. there is a game camera in place to record their visits. Bird watching is excellent, star gazing is also great. Fireflies, tree frogs, house wrens are not in short supply. the cabin is not visible from the road so affords privacy.
