FAMILY REUNIONS in Beautiful Mountain Lodge!

Big Savings over hotels!! Come relax in our mountain lodge home available when we are OOT. This is NOT a rental but our lived-in year-round home on back edge of a subdivision w/beautiful views of LaPlata mountains nestled in tall pines with 35 private acres to roam. The lodge is just 10 mins. west from downtown Durango, 35mins. from Mesa Verde National Park, 40 mins. from 'Purgatory' ski area. The main and upper floors are available for rental with private entrance from the deck. The house has charming vintage lodge atmosphere with artwork from around the world, family photos. Artfully decorated in mostly Southwestern decor. Living room focal points are a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and a log sofa with water buffalo hide cushions. The dining room has an heirloom French Provincial dining set. Master bedroom/bath is on the main floor with kitchen, dining room, and living room; two big bedrooms upstairs with full bath and walk-in closets. Total beds: 2 Queens, 1 King, 1 Bunk so it sleeps up to 8 with extra floor mats available for kids. There is wall-to-wall carpeting throughout the house, dishwasher, W/D, TV/DVD, plentiful bed, bath linens & kitchenware. Also BBQ grill and picnic set on the deck.
Relax on the deck to view the stars, the surrounding hills and La Plata peaks. Take an after dinner walk down the hill to a sweet little meadow and easy trails. For more vigorous adventures hike the miles of mountain trails in national forest lands, go for a horse ride at one of the stables, raft or fish the Animas River, ski Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory), take the Narrow Gauge Railway to Silverton or stroll down Main St. with its art galleries, clothing stores and various ethnic restaurants. Whether you take it slow or ride 'em cowboy there's always something to delight you in Durango.

* A ground floor apartment (with its own entrance thru the garage) is occupied by quiet year-round tenant. Guests occupy the main 2 floors of the lodge with the main entry on the wrap-around deck.

PAYMENTS: We do NOT accept more than the amount due and NEVER send refunds for any over-payment to anyone. If you are paying by credit card, we will only make refunds to the original credit card used.

Great place for a family trip

This was our second time staying at this location for a family vacation. Lots of room for everyone to be comfortable. The wildlife and views are amazing - great for birdwatching! Thanks for a lovely trip!

Nice home, but may not be for everyone

This was a nice home with a beautiful view from the back deck, and only 15 minutes from downtown Durango. Two things should be considered though. First, this was an older home with some older home problems. We stayed a week and during that time had the clothes dryer and hot water heater fail. Second, the owner lives in this home and vacates when the house is rented. There is also a tenant that lives on the first floor who does enjoy loud rap music. With the owner's personal belongings there isn't a lot of personal space for vacation renters and the tenant can interfere with a relaxing vacation.

I apologize for any inconvenience and will make sure there will be no loud music from my downstairs tenant. • As soon as you notified me the dryer was not working I came up with solutions. You had almost immediate access to another working dryer in the garage. Thank you for bringing to my attention the day of your departure of the loss of hot water - the reset battery has been replaced and the hot water is working perfectly now.. I’m glad you were able to enjoy the beauty of the LaPlata mountains from my deck and my 35 acres surrounding the lodge with its closeness to downtown Durango. This is my dream home. As you know I live here year-round. I make an effort to accommodate my vacation guests giving them as much space as needed for short-term rental in the refrigerator & freezer, the master bedroom dresser, upstairs bedroom dressers and closets emptied + all bed & bath linens supplied! I pride myself in being a solution-oriented host, readily available to my guests. I have quickly attended to these issues. The house is in tip-top shape and ready for my next guests.

Winter Wonderland

Terrible experience

Old, outdated home. Believe me, this is no lodge. It was disgusting for the money you are paying. We had to leave and go to a hotel which was cheaper and updated, nice and clean. Musty, moldy home.

Despite numerous pictures posted these folks decided it was not to their liking and left without using it, asked for a refund, then wrote this review of fabrications. This is a family lodge, our year-round home, that we are diligent about keeping clean and up to date. The cancellation policy is clearly posted, along with many photos of what it looks like, inside and out. The house built in 1995 recently had new rugs installed, the interior painted, and new curtains and drapes installed and is adequately equipped with kitchenware, spices, bed & bath linen. We have been offering our lodge/home to vacation renters from all over the US for over 15 years with happy guests as these entries in our guest journal attest: 2002: "Tatanka lodge is a roomy, sunny, airy, peaceful and restful place to spend a vacation." 2005: "We have enjoyed your home here in Durango so much! … and have special memories of our time here at Tatanka Lodge. … We had a wonderful time, and enjoyed your beautiful home. The scenery from your home is unbelievable." 2007: "This place is awesome! Perfect spot to spend time with our family! We enjoyed every second." 2009: "What a fun, fun, fun, and enchanting place. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us." 2010: "Your beautiful home provided my husband and I a much needed refuge from the heat, humidity and hectic pace of Washington DC. … I especially enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, and we were greeted with two bucks walking across the yard." 2015: "You have a great house and a magical location." 2019: "We loved your house, it was very beautiful… Like heaven!”
