About this property

Mountain and Shen. River frontage, Mtn. pano views, pet, central hub to sightsee

Welcome to the Rusty Hook Cabin, Luray. Our river home is perched atop a mountain over-looking the beautiful Shenandoah River below. The home is a cozy, relaxing space with plenty of room and game area. 3 king bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Home has an abundance of space for a group of 10.

This is our home on the mountain with river frontage down below. The house is perched on a mountain top with panoramic views with 250 ft of river frontage just down the mountain on our property. You have the best of both worlds. River frontage and majestic views.

We are aware that the walk down the mountain can be difficult for some or you may want to drop off items down by the river. If this is the case, You may drive down with your AWD/4WD vehicle on our primitive access road if you so desire. Once down, we ask that you take care not to tear up the lawn 😁. We have walking sticks available to you as well.

Spectacular views extend from out spacious deck off the master bedroom, large front porch, roomy back porch and walkout basement’s recreational room patio.

Enjoy grilling with family on the back door charcoal grill area with seating and separate picnic table area. Or venture down to the river, and grill your day’s catch on the 2nd charcoal grill provided.

Or dine inside. Kitchen is well supplied for cooking and dining. Pots, pans, prep bowels, cooking utensils, dishes, glassware and kitchen equipment such as kitchen aid mixer, blender, and crockpot to name a few.

Plenty of seating in dining room and living room with additional seating in the recreational area in walkout basement.

Enjoy cooking in our well known quipped kitchen to make your home made meals for the family with ease. Pop fresh popcorn with the air-popper. We have a waffle iron to make those delicious waffles. Or, take advantage of the slow cooker for your meals. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are provided for your convenience. For those big meals, we have a couple roaster pans and a larger electric roasted. Kids friendly dishes.

You will also, find that quality towels, linens, and pillows are provided. All three bathrooms have shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap. Two rolls of toilet paper per bathroom.

Highchair, pack-n-play and baby bathtub are provided so don't have to lug around your own.

There is an outside charcoal grill off the back deck with a picnic table and additional seating on the deck. Relax with family and friends while grilling and take in the views of the wildlife and mountains.

In addition to the home, our property is over three acres of lush green oasis that is well elevated. As you make your way down the mountain to the river front, you will find more than a football fields worth of gorgeous open space and over 250 feet of river frontage. On river bank, you will see stairs leading down to a small dock. You will also find, another charcoal grill, fire pit, and picnic table. Enjoy the river with the use of the canoes, kayaks, and paddle board. Minutes to Luray Caverns, Town of Luray and Shenandoah National Park.

We also have a community access point to drop in canoes, etc. a short distance from home. If you should need it. Let us know if you need the community’s access point.

Fabulous property, even better owner
Jennie is as lightning quick with her responses to questions, and super thoughtful in all aspects- communications, proving little s’mores kits as a treat, having all the toys needed for fun on the river. By far our best VRBO experience… so pleased to have spent an extended vacation in their home

Great place for a group trip
This house is exceptionally well-stocked and furnished. The kitchen has everything you need to cook for a large group. It has plenty of beds, folding lawn chairs and a basement loaded with games in case you get a rainy day. Everything is in great working order. Would highly recommend this to a group of adults or families looking for a fun weekend in the outdoors.

Wonderful Retreat
Everything was clean and well thought out. Kitchen was beautifully stocked. The house and yard were peaceful and lovely. Lots of activities inside and out to keep us happy. A family of deer ate right off the deck every morning and evening. The owners were kind and responsive and we would definitely recommend!

The place was great, the view was fantastic. Our family had a great time experiencing the river - fishing, kayaking, swimming. Short drive to charming downtown Luray.

Relaxing, with great views
This was our first multi family vacation. 3 generations. My husband had wanted to fish. Due to recent back issues that are very severe he was unable to navigate to the waters edge. It was a very steep access road and our car was not able to drive down it. He never was able to get down their. We are both in our 60’s. I did make it down myself but couldn’t return again. My Grandkids and Daughter/Son in law were able to enjoy the fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. The game room downstairs was a real hit as well. I enjoyed feeding the birds, sitting on the porch, and watching for deer. The only complaint I have was the grass was so high. Both property’s on either side were mowed but it appeared ours had not. It rained a few days while we stayed and each time I took the dog out I got my feet soaked in high grass. All and all we had a great family time. I was grateful I could bring my 16 1/2 year old Dachaund for this trip as well. Jenni and Hap were very helpful and very prompt with returning all messages. This was our first VRBO vacation. It won’t be our last.

Hello, we are Jennie and Hap. This is our personal home and want to share our piece of heaven with others. We love traveling and love Luray. We have decided to share our wonderful home with the Vrbo community. We love to hike, fish and camp and know you will enjoy the local area as much as we do! We would love your 5 star review and welcome your positive feedback on your visit.

Why they chose this property

This is our home on the river. The house is perched on a mountain top with panoramic views with river frontage just down the mountain on our property. You have the best of both worlds. River frontage and majestic views. Only a few miles from Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, and downtown Luray! It's a great tranquil location just a few hours from DC! We are aware that the walk down the mountain can be difficult for some or you may want to drop off items down by the river. If this is the case, You may drive down with your AWD vehicle on our primitive access road if you so desire. Once down, we ask that you take care not to tear up the lawn 😁 The river is about 400 ft down the mountain from the house. Guests can use the house, the basement, and our river-frontage which includes a small private dock. We have camping chairs, fishing poles, river inflatables, a kayak, and two canoes. Life jackets of a variety of youth sizes and 2 small adult sized life jackets. All for our guests. The Town of Luray is located at the crossroads of major routes of travel, approximately 90 miles west of Washington D.C. and 45 miles south of Winchester. Interstate 81 is located just 15 miles to the west; and Interstate 66 is just 25 miles to the north. Luray Caverns only 7 miles away!

What makes this property unique

Property has panoramic mountain views. You could sit for hours and watch how the mountains views change as the day passes. Bird watch from the kitchen table. Watch out the window to see the variety of birds come in flocks to peck a mouthful of food from the feeder. When the apples tree starts to produceIt, its a beautiful sight to see deer and their baby fawns come to grab a taste of the sweet fruit.

When sitting down by the river, you can watch the flowing water and hear the relaxing trickling with an occasional plop of a big fish or turtle just lets you feel tucked far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although you feel far away from all the bustle, it is only 7 miles to the nearest Walmart. The property offers amenities so you can take advantage of all the Shenandoah River has to offer. We have kayaks, canoes, a paddle board and floating tubes so you can relax on the water.
