Enjoy wine country living in our vineyard and experience the wine country lifestyle at it's source! World class vineyards and wineries, Bernardus, Julien, Heller Estate, Galante Family Winery and Georis, surround our Carmel Valley Vineyard. We are a licensed winery and produce Rombi, Carmel Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot both estate grown. Our first release was the 2006 vintage which was sold privately and thru selected fine restaurants. The 2006 vintage produced less than 100 cases and won a Silver award in the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition. We are currently selling the 2012 Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The property is spectacular and the second level cottage has views of our Carmel Valley Vineyard. The private deck offers stunning views of Julian Vineyards, Heller Estate and the Ventana Wilderness on the horizon.

The charming wood cottage is 800 square feet and features a private deck off the bedroom and living room, quality bed linens, a full kitchen with everything a gourmet chef will need, satellite TV, full movie and book library, high speed internet and your own washer and dryer. The decor highlights artwork by local artists. The living room features cozy comfortable furniture to relax in and enjoy the ambience. You will also have the use of the beautiful swimming pool (heated May through September), which overlooks the views of the local vineyards.
There is a cat Peanut on the property. He loves people but does not see many of them and he will leave you alone. He is an outdoor cat. We also have two vineyard puppies Bella and Ali.

The estate sits on its own ridge with fabulous views. The down side is it has very steep side hills and is not child friendly. We are sorry but this is an adult only property.

The cottage is peaceful, cozy and lets you experience living in the country on a working vineyard. It is close to great restaurants, shopping, golf and wine tasting. We are 45 minutes from the Monterey Peninsula Airport and Carmel By The Sea, and we are 25 minutes to the Carmel Valley Village.
All guests receive complimentary wine tasting at the Rombi Wine new tasting room in the Carmel Valley Village. Located at one Center Street just off Carmel Valley Road.

Vino Villa rustic Elegance

Fine comforts along with excellent gracious hospitality from Kathy and Sal. We felt so welcome on their property and enjoyed the pool and scenery. It was such a restful visit enjoyed in the comforts of the villa and poolside. We hope to return.

Spectacular location

Quiet remote location on top of a knoll in a private winery. Lovely people - definitely do a tasting at their tasting room, the wines are excellent. It’s a bit of a drive on a windy road to get here but it seemed less an issue each time and the drive takes you through really beautiful country. We loved our stay here!

Incredible Setting

Bed, nature, peace. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, Kathy has seen to it that all the appointments from the linens on the bed to the fantastic mattress were just right. Getting to the house seems to be a transitional transformation into the depths of nature, the 25 minute drive from Carmel Valley village to the house is windy forested roads transporting us out of the urban fog into rural bliss. Once there the quiet peacefulness begged us to stay and absorb as much of it as we could possibly store in our short stay.

Fantastic Stay!!

We loved staying at this lovely cabin. Super cozy and our biggest regret is we didn’t have more time to just enjoy the view and sit on the patio. It’s a very quiet area and Kathy was an amazing host. The driveway is a bit rough - nothing you can’t do in a sedan but plan to take your time and don’t drive fast.

Magnificent surroundings

Kathy and Sal's cottage is situated in the vineyard country of the Carmel Valley. From sunrise to sunset, and even after dark, the views are magnificent. Kathy and Sal are generous hosts, providing everything we needed to make our stay comfortable, while allowing us privacy. We walked through the vineyard, cooled off in their pool, enjoyed mornings on the deck, and gazed at Venus and the stars at night. We traveled to the area to attend the U.S. Women's Open at Pebble Beach. It took about an hour each day to drive to Carmel and take the shuttle to the tournament, but it was worth the time spent to be able to come home to this blissfully peaceful cottage. On days off from the tournament we just enjoyed our "home away from home". Thank you, Kathy & Sal for sharing your slice of paradise with us!

A Stay in Paradise

This was the highlight of our honeymoon! We had such a wonderful time at this property; the views are breathtaking, the pool and guesthouse were great and felt like fully “ours” for the entire time of our stay, and every time we get to interact with our hosts was great. Can't Wait To Return!

Everything we experienced during our 2 nights at the Vineyard Cottage exceeded our expectations. Kathy and Sal are wonderful people and great hosts. We immediately felt like we'd known them for years. Kathy greeted us as we drove up and gave us a tour of the property. and then gave us complete privacy for the duration while being available if we needed anything. The Vineyard Cottage is the perfect secluded getaway. It is spotless, comfortable, spacious, and equipped with everything one needs to relax and unwind. The cottage sits on the top of a ridge overlooking the ROMBI vineyard and several other Carmel Valley vineyards at the bottom of the canyon. The sunsets are amazing. And the sunrise too - you wake up above the fog that rolls in overnight, and then the fog disappears as the sun rises and warms the canyon floor. There's a pool that has a 270-degree sweeping view of the surrounding valleys - watching the sun set from the pool is a must-do. Things to know ahead of time: It's a 35-40 minute drive between Carmel Valley Village and the Vineyard Cottage. The last half-mile or so is a mix of paved and unpaved roads. You won't want to make multiple trips per day between the cottage and anything else, and you won't want to make the trip after dark especially the first night when you're not sure where you're going. Stop at Jerome's Market in the Village before checking in and bring the 1st night's dinner with you. There's a brand new gas grill on the deck so we grilled and watched movies and watched the sun set. Trust me, once you check-in that first night you won't want to leave... be prepared to be blown away. We loved the ROMBI tasting room, chatting with Sal the owner and winemaker, and sampling his outstanding Reds. Again, to meet Sal for the first time you feel like you've always known him. On our ride home to the Bay Area we were already talking about going back. The one thing we would differently is to plan one (at least) extra day so we could stay on property and just enjoy the pool and the views.

Top of the World

Fabulous Getaway with 360 degree panoramic views! This guest house had everything you could need to just relax and disappear from busy life. I loved the pool which was nice for laps and very private. We hope to return soon.

Beautiful and relaxing

We loved staying at Sal and Kathy's cottage!! It was perfect. Lots of driving but centrally located to Big Sur and Carmel by the sea which is exactly what we wanted. Enjoyed the pool with the sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards. Sal and Kathy were great hosts. 5 stars.

Loved everything about our gateway time!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage! Kathy and Sal are the most warm and gracious hosts. In planning they answered all the questions and even kindly stock the fridge for us due the late evening arrival. And that’s on top of nice welcome treats that waited for us the in kitchen! Kathy met us late at night to welcome and gave us a quick tour. The property is so serene! It was very relaxing to be in the quietness of the hills. You can watch the beautiful colors of sunrises and sunsets over the mountains from the balcony. The stars at night are bright and clear. It’s so peaceful without noise pollution - just birds singing and occasional sound traveling through the valley. Large windows let in a lot of light and open the picturesque views. The house is spacious, very comfortable, equipped with everything that you need for the stay. It has a feeling of real home rather than a rental property. The area around is stunning and there is a lot to do. Hikes along the coastline were our favorites. It takes some driving from the cottage to get around, but a cozy place to stay in was a real treat. Loved everything about our gateway time!

Wine Country Escape

Absolutely loved our stay at the Vineyard Cottage! We were looking for a place to get away from the crowds and ring in the new year for ourselves. What a treat to have found such a special getaway up in the hills of Carmel Valley. The cottage was perfectly cozy, warm and well equipped for us to cook some fantastic meals and drink the amazing wine from the vineyard. It was an even more special treat to get to meet Kathy and Sal Rombi, our hosts. Although everything was entirely private at the cottage, getting to know them and their history and the story of the winery was amazing and fun. We will definitely find our way back soon!

Better than we imagined

Our stay was a dream come true. Carmel Valley Village is quaint, friendly, and full of great food and (of course) wine. The property was gorgeous and the cottage was just right! We were blown away by the hospitality and the view. One note - the road to the house is quite bumpy. We had a Jeep and we’re happy we did! We can’t wait to go back!!

Vacation in a working vineyard

I have been to numerous tours on how wine is processed from grape to bottle, but staying in a working vineyard and observing winemaker Sal Rombi tending to his grapes was really fascinating. Sal was also very receptive in answering all of our many questions. The kitchen window overlooked the vineyard and it was such a pleasure to cook dinner and sip the delicious Cabernet from the very grapes that were grown there. The cottage has an extensive book and dvd collection. The sunsets from our deck were magnificent. It was a very nice 49th wedding anniversary get a way.

Wonderful private retreat

Exactly what we needed. A couple days of quiet and rest and this property nailed it. Kathy was a wonderful host and the private wine tour was amazing. Rombi wine is a real treat. Dinners in Carmel Valley was about 25 min drive. Wonderful property with the best views in the valley. I hope to return next summer

Leave your worries at home

This was an excellent retreat tucked away in the Carmel valley ridges. The vineyard and views were stunning. The hosts were very gracious. It’s a bit far away from town but was you’re there it’s paradise.

Perfect!

We stayed at the cottage for 4 nights in June 2019 on a trip to the region for our one year wedding anniversary. Kathy and Sal were perfect hosts in every respect. Our visit started with a complimentary wine tasting with Sal at the Rombi Tasting Room in Carmel Valley Village. They gave us a tour of the property, helpful recommendations for attractions and dining, and chatted when we saw them on our way to/from the cottage, but we’re not at all intrusive. The cottage and property were private and quiet. Everything was better than advertised - terrace with breathtaking views (the same goes for literally anywhere on the property), BBQ grill, fully stocked kitchen and bath, awesome pool and lounge area which we had to ourselves, and an impressive library of books and VHS tapes (with a working VCR!) are just a few of the highlights. Perfect, sunny, 80-degree weather the entire time didn’t hurt either. The property was centrally located for all the area attractions we visited: wineries in Soledad to the east and Carmel Valley Village, Carmel-By-The-Sea, Monterey, and Big Sur to the west. If you find yourself anywhere near the Carmel Valley area, I highly recommend staying with Kathy and Sal!

Salvatore Rombi viticulturist, winemaker and Kathy Baker (official taster) were both born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel Valley. We know the area intimately and enjoy sharing it and love all it has to offer. We began the process of developing the vineyard in 1994. The Winery was completed in 2007 and the first commercial release of the Rombi Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot was the 2006 vintage. The Merlot won a Silver in the Los Angeles Wine and Spirits Competition. The process has been challenging, exciting and rewarding. It is wonderful to see it come to life. In 2012 we opened the Rombi Wine Tasting Room in the Carmel Valley Village. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays noon to 5. Sal (winemaker) works the tasting room on the weekends. Sal owns Carmel Valley Realty Company and has been in the real estate business since 1972. He also is the vineyard manager and winemaker. Kathy was an executive with a radio broadcast group in California for over 25 years and now owns a marketing and consulting company. We have rented houses for years in Italy and France and understand the amenities and accruements we enjoy and will respect guest's privacy. The cottage is yours during your stay.
