My sister and I booked the ‘modern’ farmhouse for a short visit to Shenandoah NP. We were excited to be staying on a farm. To start, communication was poor with host. Upon confirming the booking, he said he would reach out with further information and did not by the day of check in. I reached out to him the morning we were due to arrive, and his response was vague and I still had no idea what I was to do. Upon arrival in the rain, and after notifying him our arrival time twice, the gate had still not been opened as he noted it would be and I was unsure if i was a. at the right place and b. couldn’t tell if it was locked until I got our. The host did come out eventually to inform he didn’t realize what time it was, as he was making burritos.
This listing was inaccurately described, it did not indicate that this was a shared space with a person who lives in the basement. I was unaware from the original listing (it has since been revised) that someone was living in the space, despite it saying it was a private entrance and no mention otherwise. Host claims it was clear, and I can assure it was not. The only way I found out is when I determined it looked like someone livied there and messaged the host, asking if we should be expecting someone while we were there to which he replied yes. At that point we felt uncomfortable as I would not have booked it had I known it was not a private area. We understood it was a basement, and the host lived upstairs; it was not understood that someone lived in the basement.
Outside of this, dogs barked past 1 am outdoors, you can hear more than just children’s feet from above head, the bed was very, very stiff and extremely creaky. We left after the first night to stay in a hotel and for just a little bit more money, wish we would’ve not stayed at the ‘modern’ farmhouse at all.
