About this property
Sunny Stinson Beach - Hot Tub, Fireplace, Garden and Fire Pit
Stinson Beach, population 632, is bordered by a gorgeous beach and Mt Tam State Park. People flock here on weekends and holidays because it is so close yet so far from urban life. The house is up the hill “in the village". There is some kind of magic that happens up here around 10 pm - the hills absorb all sounds but the waves. The coyotes, foxes and deer take over the streets. In short – we really have the best of it all up here on the hill but we have to do our part. Most of all respect the neighbors. Hold your parties at the beach or bars. On busy days tell your friends to leave the cars where they are and walk the 0.4 miles from the beach. And then enjoy the peaceful retreat that is so close and yet so far from the holiday crowds.
The property is mostly hidden from view by a rose covered fence. Each side of the Cape Cod style house offers a unique outdoor experience. The back deck gets wonderful, warm sun during the day. A nice large hot tub is perfect for relaxing after a long hike, ride or surf, or for stargazing at night. The outdoor fire pit is around the corner and looks out on a newly planted pollinator garden surrounded by bushes and trees. The front porch has an Adirondack loveseat for enjoying the evening light on Mt. Tamalpais.
The porch door opens into the living room. The open living area has many large windows with deck, garden, mountain and partial ocean views. The large brick fireplace is the cornerstone of the living room. The comfy, big couch is great for lounging. The kitchen area is small but well equipped with a convection oven and two dishwashers. A coffee grinder and a choice of French Press or drip cones are provided to make sure you can start your morning with a wonderful cup of coffee. Dine inside on comfy Maine Cottage chairs, or outside on the deck.
The bedroom is at the far end of the house and the sounds of the waves are the only sounds you hear. Wake to a view of the flowers and hummingbirds through the glass doors and bedroom window. Furniture in the bedroom includes a European SleepWorks king bed, rocking chair, a table with desk lamp (which is perfect for computer work or writing), two nightstands, a dresser and a large closet for your use.
The bedroom is separated from the living area by a bonus room that features a sleeping nest perfect for a child or friend. The sleeping area has its own ceiling lights for reading, and can be closed off by a curtain for privacy. The room has two closets; one contains the washer and dryer.
The bath is small but tidy. The shower has good pressure and lots of hot water.

We had a magical stay at this property. The cottage was lovely, exactly as described, and a short walk to shops and restaurants. We hope to visit again soon!
What a special place - tucked away up the hill and an easy walk to the beach. Everything in bloom and lush all around. Beautiful garden, view of the ocean from the hot tub. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all don’t look any further.
We had a great time staying here. The house was really cute and had everything we needed, and the fireplace and hot tub were really cozy on a rainy weekend. It was great to be able to walk to the town and beach as well as awesome hiking trails up towards Mt. Tam. Would love to stay again!
Great! Clean home. Very useful and outfitted kitchen. Lovely. View of the ocean. Wonderful hot tub. Unexpected bonus of the fire pit. Made use of that every night. Would go back again for sure.
Amazing location and quiet neighborhood. The house offers a relaxing and beautiful space for outdoor lovers and visiting San Francisco and surrounding area.
We love staying here! Kitchen is great, hot tub is nice and hot, views are lovely. Easy access to so many hiking and the beach of course. It’s great for couples but probably not more.
A more spacious and calming Stinson vacation rental than most. We enjoyed the quiet location up on the hill a ways with amazing trail access to Matt Davis, and yet a short walk to the beach. We appreciated and enjoyed the eco-soaps and TPs. We completed a puzzle that actually had all of its pieces. The bed and the sofas were comfortable and we happily cooked all of our meals.
Best experience! This home is so special and we hope to return many times. The sound of the ocean was so relaxing. Hot tub was sparkling clean. I would change nothing.
Wonderful house, beautiful landscaping full of yummy smells, house full of light, comfortable furniture and beds, well equiped kitchen, hot tub was hot, view of ocean from the deck, quiet at night. We had a great time.
We stayed for 4 nights in August 2025. A great location to explore the Stinson Beach and Point Reyes areas. The house layout works really well with great outdoor space. The kitchen is small but has almost everything we needed to cook real meals. Hottub was a highlight.
This home feels cozy and complete. The gardens are beautiful. The neighborhood has a local friendly vibe. The house is older, so renters need to treat it with care. But it is a charming place to land, and although up the hill a bit, lends an old beachy feeling.
Perfect little hideaway. Quiet, close to Muir woods. Absolutely the perfect place to unwind and have a romantic week

About the host
Hosted by Cathy
My husband and I met at UC Berkeley many years ago. After a stint in New York, we were able to move back to San Francisco. We have a two sons who have flown the coop. We have always loved west Marin for its scenic beauty, wildlife and incredible beaches. The Stinson house has moved me closer to many of my dreams. I completed docent training at the Martin Griffin Preserve and now have the pleasure of introducing fourth graders to the wonder of the area. I look forward to the time when I can spend more of my days paddling the lagoon, hiking the trails and doing what I can to preserve this treasure. Until then, I hope to share this truly multifaceted rejuvenating home with others.
Why they chose this property
We always dreamed of having a place in West Marin. I love Stinson because there is so much to do and see without having to get into a car. The town is friendly and meets all basic needs. Almost everyone of any age enjoys a day at the beach. Hiking trails are right outside the front door. And I fell in love with the house. It is bright and sunny, quiet and peaceful and the hot tub makes it better than a day at the spa. I also love Pt. Reyes Station, which has become the hub of the sustainable food movement, and which has interesting, unique shops. It is just a beautiful 13-mile drive or bike away.
What makes this property unique
The benefits of a vacation at this home are many and varied. You can experience one or all of the four S’s – sun, surf, sleep and shall we say romance. I would also add sustenance for the spirit, opportunities for socializing and if desired, exercise and challenges for the physical self. The location of the home is wonderful, but it is also a good base for exploring the San Francisco Bay Area and wine country.
