Hummingbird House-Step Into History with Comfort and Charm! Walk to downtown!
Welcome to our lovingly updated 1924 Miner’s Cabin—an authentic piece of Nevada City’s rich past, partially updated to offer modern comfort while preserving its original quirky character. If you're looking to soak in the nostalgic charm of this Gold Rush town, this is the perfect place to call home during your stay.
Our house blends rustic vintage vibes with just the right touch of contemporary updates. The kitchen and one of the bathrooms have been refreshed, yet you'll still find charming details throughout that whisper of another era.
**Things to Know Before Booking** Unique Bedroom Layout – The two bedrooms are connected, meaning you walk through one to get to the other. Perfect for families or close-knit groups but may not be ideal for those needing full privacy. (The back bedroom does have its own private exit to the outdoors.)
Quiet, Long-Term Tenant in Back Studio – There’s a cozy studio in the rear of the property with a single, respectful tenant. The only shared space is the driveway.
We welcome one pet and maybe 2 on a case-by-case basis. Tell us about your furry companion when you inquire, and we’ll share our pet policy before booking. Also, like many older homes in the area, the cabin doesn't have central air, but it stays pleasantly cool thanks to its shade, two standalone A/C units, and fans in every room—even on those warm summer days!
The Neighborhood: You’re just a scenic 10–15 minute walk to both historic downtown Nevada City and Pioneer Park. Whether you're here for local festivals, forest hikes, or just a peaceful getaway, everything is close by.
A Note About Atmosphere: This is a family-friendly neighborhood with a calm, respectful vibe. It’s a space to unwind and enjoy—not a spot for parties. We kindly ask guests to keep noise to a minimum.
I’m always just a message away for anything you need during your stay—before, during, and after!

4 of us stayed at the Hummingbird Cottage. Very clean and cozy inside. We were very comfortable for our 2 day stay. Convenient location to walk into town and short drive to Grass Valley for more “ambling”.
Convenient, practical and fairly priced for Nevada City
Convenient, practical and fairly priced for a great Nevada City experience. Also, a nice place for those looking to experience a gold country house with history and personality.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Hummingbird House. The location is convenient, the neighborhood was quiet, and the well-stocked house had everything we needed for the week. Check-in and checkout was easy, and the owner was responsive when I had a question. Beds were comfortable and the house was clean and well-organized.
The property was beautiful, the house was nice and clean and had pretty much anything you could need. It was a bit surprising to see someone else staying on the property, just a few feet away from the bedroom door, as there was no mention of this on the listing. Whether you use google maps or apple maps, the directions take you down the wrong street and it can be a bit difficult to find the house.
We love Elizabeth's sweet and wonderful Hummingbird House! Everything was so comfortable and thoughtful with a charming aesthetic and a beautiful yard for the pup to enjoy. We only stayed for a couple of nights but our time here was so relaxing and we enjoyed our weekend very much. We hope to return for a longer stay. Perfect base camp for a trip to the snow.
We loved our stay at hummingbird house! The house was adorable. The beds were comfortable! It had a lot of charm! Parking was a little tricky since we had two cars and someone was renting the other house but by the second day we had it down! We will be back to visit hummingbird house for sure!
Great, cute house, close to town. Easy to contact host
The overall stay was wonderful! The house is super cute and clean. The only complaint I have is that there is a small ADU/Inlaw unit on the property that someone clearly lives in and that is not listed on the booking site. So it was a little strange to have somebody there that we were unaware of
Our stay was comfortable. Two bedrooms and bathrooms accommodated two adults nicely. The kitchen is nice (although plan to bring cooking oil as not much provided in terms of spices etc.) Online maps take you to the street behind the house, so was a little confusing to find. Some items could use a refresh, but overall clean.
The cabin is a short walk to both downtown Nevada City and to Pioneer Park. It's more spacious than it looks in pictures and could easily accommodate 4 people, though there were only 2 of us. The shade from surrounding trees kept it nice and cool on hot days. The front part of the driveway is rather treacherous, so I suggest backing out.
Our stay was great. Be aware that the design of the house is such that one has to pass through a bedroom to reach the “master” bedroom and bathroom. There is a second, slightly less private bathroom down the hall past the kitchen. So for people with small kids it is great. For two couples, there is less privacy. If that all works for you, the house is great.
Loved the coziness of the inside - just the right size for 2. The outside was not as maintained as the pictures suggest, although most of the tables & chairs were there. There are more stairs to get into the house, & stairs to get to the bedrooms than we noticed in the pictures, none of which have handrails.
We enjoyed the property. We are 2 couples. Luckily we travel together frequently as you have to walk through one bedroom to get to the 2nd. That was fine for us and for families but may be an issue for some. In any case the house is furnished and stocked well. We didn't use the kitchen, except for coffee so can't comment on cooking utensils but appeared fine. Beds were comfortable and we were able to warm up the house and be cosy. About a15 minute walk to town.
The house was clean, furniture was comfortable, and the kitchen was nicely stocked. The house is old, a very strange layout. You are walking between the two beds in one room to get to the master bedroom. This was not horrible for our group, but could be really awkward if you want any privacy. The house could use some updates
Everything was wonderful at Hummingbird house! It is a beautiful, rustic home with just the right amount of updated amenities. My family and I enjoyed coming back after days on the river/lakes to play games, cook dinner, and watch movies in the cozy house. The neighborhood is gorgeous and fun to walk through and there is a nice park just a couple of blocks away. The owner is very responsive and helpful. We would definitely recommend this place for a visit to the area!
Very nice place, with a cute vibe going on. Not much privacy for groups that aren’t families, considering the two bedrooms are connected. Overall good experience and a great location.
Great funky little property with everything you need and close to town. Great owners who are very informative and available.
