About this property
A Victorian Rose, DOWNTOWN, Hot Tub, Rec Room, couples, families & groups welcome
Thank you to all of our previous guests who gave us 5 star reviews! We take great pride in our home and do everything we can to make your stay comfortable.
A Victorian Rose provides a unique and memorable experience for all ages! From one to one hundred, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are a couple seeking a romantic get-away or a group of friends wanting to gather, we are perfect for you! Honestly, why stay at a hotel, motel or bed, and breakfast when you can rent our entire private, beautiful Victorian for less and stay in style? We also allow up to two well-behaved pets with pre-approval & extra pet fees.
Have you been planning a romantic weekend for two or a reunion with family or friends? Do you have an upcoming wedding? Have you considered renting a home for a wedding party or visiting family? Guess what? Look no further... You've found the perfect vacation home for your family or friends! A Victorian Rose!
We are available for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, and we love to decorate to add to the festivities. You may leisurely stroll to Downtown Cornish Christmas or visit neighboring Nevada City, only 4 miles away to enjoy their beautiful Victorian Christmas.
Families have stayed at our home as they celebrate the life of a special family member who has passed. Our home is comfortable and welcoming, especially in times of grief. We offer privacy, unlike hotels.
Of course, quilting, scrapping, and wine tasting groups are always welcome, and they may set up in our "Man Cave" or "Quilting Cove." We have had groups stay for a week. Amazingly, a couple of the groups come back a couple of times each year.
We are located in the Downtown Historic District, within walking distance of Main Street and Mill Street(0.3miles). We have plenty of parking compared to many downtown vacation homes. We're about 2 miles from The Empire State Mine, 1.3 miles from The Nevada County Fairgrounds, and about 4 miles from Nevada City.
A Victorian Rose is a luxury four/five bedroom and two bath home. Each room is uniquely decorated with antiques to add to the charm.
We have an inviting lovely parlor, a modern and fully equipped kitchen, a sunny breakfast nook, a formal dining room, a comfortable family room, a laundry room with washer/dryer & ironing board & iron, a Secret Kid's Room, a fun recreation room or 'The Man Cave' with Foosball, poker table, TV, VCR/DVD etc....Fun for everyone!
Let me tell you more! Quilting and scrap-booking groups arrange their tables and use "The Man Cave" as a workshop. On the back deck, there is a warm, hot tub and seating. We have a propane BBQ, complimentary WiFi, quality linens, and towels.
We're located in the Sierra Foothills, in the Historic Downtown District of Grass Valley, and centralized to many great outdoor and indoor activities and only minutes from Nevada City. We are in the heart of the Gold Country about one hour from Sacramento or Lake Tahoe, right off Hwy 49 in the Downtown District of Grass Valley.
Nearby are museums, golfing and biking, cultural events, County Fairground activities, antiquing and specialty shopping, wine tasting, great theater, art galleries, excellent dining, musical entertainment, movie theater, Grass Valley and Nevada City walking tours, The Empire Mine State Park, swimming and even playing in the snow or skiing aren't too far away! The list is endless. I highly recommend checking out the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce before or during your stay. Don't just stay, play!!!
There are numerous fine restaurants in both Grass Valley and Nevada City. You could grab a quick bite at one of the fast food places, and of course, you must try a pastie, a Cornish meal the miners used to bring into the mines. Safeway is nearby and makes it easy to purchase foods to cook up something homemade in our well-equipped and modern kitchen.
A Victorian Rose is a completely restored Victorian and perfect for a romantic getaway weekend, a small wedding, a family vacation, a scrapping/quilting weekend, a memorial celebration or just a fun retreat for you and your friends!
We can help make arrangements for special occasions, too, just ask. Gift certificates are available.

We had our family reunion at the house, and it was such a lovely experience. It’s very well stocked in the kitchen and w towels, and everything is set up really nice! Catherine even had the place decorated for Christmas, such a nice treat!
We love staying here. This house has so much character and history. It is surprisingly roomy and fits the extended family perfectly. It is close to the town to walk to and is a great location.
The Victorian Rose was a great house in the perfect Grass Valley location. We walked to breakfast and dinner, the house was very cozy and quiet! We traveled from NY and came with a lack of sleep and found that you could easily sleep in any room and not hear others in the house!
Everything was immaculate and easy to access. We enjoyed our stay very much. We had everything we needed to cook and a grocery store in walking distance. I can't imagine a better place to stay with friends for a long weekend. Also, Catherine was great to work with and flexible when we needed to check in a little early. One thing to note, by pets, the owner is referring to dogs. We brought our cats and had to pay an additional fee to have them with us.
A terrific place for a family to stay in Grass Valley. Lovely Victorian with period-appropriate furnishings that are super comfortable! Just like going back to Grass Valley’s historic period — but with all the modern comforts. Plenty of rooms for a family gathering, with a large dining area and modern kitchen appliances. Walking distance to groceries, and shops in historic downtown (Mill Street). Couldn’t have found a nicer place for a family gathering. Charming!
We had an absolutely wonderful time and the house was a Victorian and had the most elegant decor! Rooms and bathrooms were clean and supplies were plentiful! Host is amazing and helped where it was needed! “Check-out” was a breeze and even though there were other fun amenities (man cave and spa) we weren’t there long enough to enjoy them, but others should! If we ever get back there we would stay again!
We spent a girls weekend at this house and it was just perfect. It was in walking distance of downtown Grass Valley and the home itself was so very cute. We all really enjoyed our stay here.
Our family gathered in Grass Valley for a recent memorial service and was greeted with this wonderful property that met our needs well and provided a pleasant escape during a difficult weekend. Catherine was a gracious host and very attentive and flexible to our needs.
It is an interesting victorian house with lots of charm inside and out. The place fit our family nicely. It was a nice walking distance away from the downtown area.
We were a party of 10 in town for a family wedding.A Victorian Rose was the perfect place for us to stay. We gathered at the dinning table for meals and games and on the porch for evening cocktails. There was plenty of space for us all. The large kitchen, with breakfast nook, had everything you needed to prepare your own meals and there was plenty of space for serveral cooks in the kitchen. Its an easy walk to town and Safeway is right around the corner. Catherine was very welcoming and easy to work with. We had a great visit. Surching for and hiding the heart was a fun added touch. We definitely recommend staying at A Victorian Rose when your in town!
Plenty of space for our family of 12, fully stocked kitchen and toys for the little ones, fun area for teens if they need their own space😊
Hostess was very accommodating and helpful - I highly recommend A Victorian Rose!
Location was perfect as family was here to see this specific area. Property was well stocked, parking was off the street, grocery store one block away. We really enjoyed afternoons sitting outside on a very comfortable front porch.

Catherine,
You are the best, so organized and the place is lovely. My family had a great time.
A Victorian Rose definitely lives up to its name. It is quaint, elegant, and modern all at once, creating a comfortable environment while adding the charm of the Victorian era to the furnishings. Our family had a wonderful time, there was plenty of space for all five of us, and we loved searching for the hidden heart!
Stayed at the Victorian Rose for a weekend with 10 other people. The house was convenient, handled our large group well, and had PLENTY of character! Shoutout for having the flexibility to leave some bikes in the garage after checkout - gave us some piece of mind while we were off adventuring.
There was nine of us staying here. All of us was comfortable and loved this house. Catherine was wonderful to work with. She responded quickly to any texts or phone calls. This victorian home is so beautiful and well taken care of. We had some family over that live in Grass Valley and the man cave came in handy. I highly recommend this home. Thank you Catherine for sharing your beautiful home
We had a great time! The home was as advertised and the communication with the owner was exceptional. Thanks!

We had an awesome time staying in the Victorian Rose for the first two nights of our honeymoon. It was more comfy and homey than a hotel and we just relaxed and enjoyed the Christmas feeling in the local area.
About the host
Hosted by Catherine
We love Grass Valley and especially the downtown area. Owning a Victorian is a dream come true! Whenever we get a chance, our family vacations at A Victorian Rose. We enjoy sharing it's magic with others! People have taken their vows of marriage and honeymooned in our beautiful home.
Why they chose this property
Grass Valley is a relaxing place compared to our home in the Bay Area. We love the trees, fresh air and the many indoor and outdoor activities in the area. One of our favorite things about A Victorian Rose is its walking proximity to the downtown wineries, restaurants and specialty shops. Occasionally we drive to the Yuba River or Scott's Flat or Rollins Lake to enjoy their beautiful or play in the water.
What makes this property unique
When we stay at A Victorian Rose, we usually have some work to do to our 100+ year old girl or we tend the small gardens, but we don't mind it at all, because it has such a magical, relaxing atmosphere. We love getting up early, drinking our coffee and talking on the front porch (even when it snows)and in the evening unwinding in the relaxing, warm hot tub.
