The Ultimate Beach House (Casa Sol Y La Luna)

This is an eco-friendly house. We have a rainwater catchment system and solar panels that provide 12 volt electricity with an inverter for 110 volt electricity. There are fans in all the bedrooms and the sitting area. There is a water filter as well so no need to buy bottled water. Often you will see monkeys, sloths and hummingbirds around the property. We can arrange excursions to the Indian Village of Salt Creek, Bastimentos National Park, Dolphin Bay (where you will see lots of dolphins!), Snorkeling, Fishing, Hiking, etc.

Beautiful island escape

Our family of 4 spent three amazing days in this beautiful, spacious home—the perfect setting for both relaxation and adventure. The remote location offers a peaceful escape, while the nearby Al Natural resort provides plenty of excursion options to keep things exciting. We loved swimming off the dock, exploring the beaches, and unwinding on the porch. Whether spreading out for some quiet time or gathering together, the house offered the ideal balance. We opted for dinner at Al Natural for 2 of our evenings, and the meal was fresh and delicious. Communication with the host was seamless and she met us at the airport and provided some last minute details. A truly unforgettable stay!

hi sunanda and vincent i am writing to you to tell you how much my family and i truly am grateful for your hospitality and generosity. it was such a luxury to be in such a beautiful environment, in such a beautiful home with everything at our disposal. of course that everything means incredible weather, comfortable hammock, warm water to shower, great fresh fish and peace, priceless peace. not to mention of course the caring and warmth each time we went to the natural to visit and see vincent or have a great meal. we are grateful for how well you provided for us and made us feel so welcome and comfortable. it was kind of you to share your space with us and give us the taste of what it's like to live in paradise. best wishes and warm regards ron, stephanie and nevaeh

The house is gorgeous, the hosts were wonderful, the location was stunning...THE HOSTS:Sunanda and Vincent are the best hosts. Sunanda was always quick to respond to questions, met us at the airport & took us to the dock. Left our bags there while we shopped at 2 close by markets. Went back on day 5 of 10. Vincent was always available during our stay.THE HOUSE:Pictures don't do it justice. The house is stunning. Downstairs is a nice kitchen w/ a bar & 4 stools, dining table fits 10 and a nice living room area. The 3 bedrooms and 2 baths are upstairs. The master suite has a veranda overlooking the sea. The other 2 bedrooms overlook the jungle and served as a great bird blind. Beautiful hardwood throughout. Very open.THE PROPERTY / WILDLIFE:Large back yard surrounded by jungle. Visited by monkeys every couple of days. Lots of birds and fascinating insects. Geckos were regulars in and the around the house. The front is as beautiful of a view of the Caribbean as you can imagine. Truly mesmerizing and ever changing with lighting, time of day and weather. Most days were clear enough to see the mountains of the Panamanian mainland.THE ENVIRONMENT / AREA:We saw sloths, baby monkeys, lizards, frogs and butterfly's on jungle / beach walks. Being associated with Al Natural Resort allows guest to have dinner and go on a variety of excursions. Vincent is an excellent chef and Michel texted me daily about upcoming activities. Snorkeling at Zapatillas was awesome.

Wir hatten einen phantastischen Urlaub im Haus mit unseren 3 Kindern. Das Haus selber, der Strand, die Umgebung sind so unbeschreiblich schön, dass man es weder in Worten, noch in Bildern vollständig erfassen kann. Vinzent als Gastgeber war jederzeit mit Hilfe zur Stelle, hat uns ein wunderbares Essen serviert und sein Team uns sehr bereichernde Ausflüge ermöglicht. Unsere Kinder haben zum ersten Mal Delphine gesehen, Affen, rote Frösche, Korallen und eine Menge unterschiedlicher Fische. Die gesamte Anlage ist sehr ruhig und der Strandabschnitt (mit eigenem Steg) einer der schönsten auf den Bocas. Nicht tief, sicher, und mit Vielem zum Entdecken (da helfen auch das SUP und das Kanu enorm). Für den kleinen Einkauf geht man ins „Indianer“-Dorf Salt Creek, bei einem größeren hilft Vinzent‘s Team. Ansonsten hat man viel Natur und Entspannung. Man sei sich bewusst, dass man in den Tropen wohnt und das Haus - nach lokaler Tradition und dem Klima entsprechend - zum Teil offen gebaut ist. Es gibt somit immer wieder „Besuch“ in Form von kleinen Echsen, Insekten oder nachts Fledermäusen. Wir fanden das klasse. Für wen das nichts ist, der sollte sich woanders umschauen.

Amazing vacations, just much further south than advertised.

First of all, the hosts are great, and the house is beautiful, we had a great vacation time! One of the hosts, Vincent, also speaks French :) You will be on the beach, beautiful water, snorkeling with plenty of fish nearby. You have internet access in the house. The personnel at Al Natural is great too, and helpful. There was supposed to be a cleaning lady at least once, but there was none. We saw lots of beautiful corals, fishes, we saw dolphins, monkeys, sloths, birds, little bats, big butterflies, no caiman, no snakes. What you need to know: - The house is not located near wizard beach as the map shows, you will be much much further south in Punta Vieja = big difference! Compared to Wizard Beach, you won't have mobile signal, will not be able to easily go back to Bocas for activities, groceries, and that changed our planning completely. The host will offer boat trips to Bacos at any time, and at a fee, but not the 1$-5$ of a taxi boat from Bocas to Wizard beach, so plan for that budget too, - The fisherman were suppose to pass by, or you go and see them, but that never happened. The trick is to ask the host's captain, Marvin to get you a fish from a fisherman, which we did at the end of the trip, so we had one day left with fish for a week :( - You can count on them to show up on time for boat rides, but I strongly recommend to remind them1 hour before your ride to return to Bocas if you have a flight, as we almost missed ours, as they had forget for the first time.. - If the knives don't cut, I would recommend you bring them to the restaurant so they sharpen them ;) - You will get sandflies (like mosquitos) bits, some more than others, so bring bug repellant. - The price of activities are ok, but always with additional hidden fees that were not mentioned, so make sure you have cash with you when you go. Overall, this was a great rental, great hosts, and an amazing vacation away on an isolated island.

Magic destination from a fairy tale

This was an incredible location and the pictures don't do it justice. The house is located on a picturesque beach and is not far away form Al natural and Azul paradize (in case you need a stretch or if you want to get a drink, dinner outside or excursion). There are lots of activities and trails in the local salt creek village (15 min away). The house s well designed and is spacious and safe. the wifi access is a short walk of ~5 min away from the house. We felt that we had enough power, water, sizeable fridge for a group of 6. The fisherman passed by the house regularly in their boats and you can buy fresh fish for dinner! The hosts are friendly, accommodating and very helpful. You can easily travel to town if you need to by making arrangements with al naturel resorts for a nominal fee. We saw lots of sloths, birds and animals around the house. The water is warm and the beach is sandy without any rocks -- so the swimming is very enjoyable. Overall our stay was very relaxing, pleasant and restorative. I highly recommend this location and property to others. I would say that staying in this house is more enjoyable, spacious and luxurious then at the nearby hotels. This was the best vacation ever!

Beautiful location with an awesome house. Kids enjoyed the water and paddle boards and my wife and I enjoyed reading and making food! Owners were extremely helpful and made it very easy to get to/from Bocas. Highly recommend for anyone that enjoys being "off-the-grid".

Stunning property & wonderfully welcoming owners!

Our time at Casa Sol Y La Luna was incredible. From the owner, Sunanda meeting us at the airport in Boca and taking us grocery shopping the evening we arrived to the hugs we got from her when we left we always felt welcome and that our needs were important to her. The house: OMG the photos do not do the property justice. We arrived after dark so our first impression was of the home. It is lovely. the rooms are a good size and there are 2 bathrooms (one in the master). Fans are in each bed so there was no worry of being too hot at night. Beds were also very comfortable as were the pillows (I often travel with my own pillow as I'm very particular). When we woke our first morning we were speechless. Just a volley of "OMG" and "wow" from us all. The view is stunning, the beach is beautiful, the locals are friendly, the coconuts are delicious and the water is warm. We saw a sloth, several monkeys and tons of birds. The peacefulness was wonderful. Even our kids (13 and 11 yo) did not want to leave. We recommend this property whole heartedly and would return in a heartbeat.

Amazing House - Beautiful Natural Setting - Wonderful Owners

We have traveled to Bocas several times and are infatuated with Old Point. While it is a bit of a boat ride from town (which we consider a positive) it is a world of its own, with beautiful beaches, water and many natural attractions. The house is really amazing with an open breezy floor plan, full kitchen and direct beach access. The English speaking owners pick you up at the airport and give you time for shopping before heading out to the house. We enjoy cooking, so we bought a bunch of supplies and cooked many of our own meals. There are also several excellent options a short walk down the beach - Al Natural has excellent food and a wonderful staff. Casa Cayuco is another dining/drinking option, but it was closed for vacation while we were there. We didn't get a chance to check out the Zapatilla keys, but they are supposed to be ideal for diving and snorkeling. We will do that next time for sure! We did walk along the many miles of lush beaches in the area - which is pretty much all we need on vacation. If you are looking for more seclusion than town - and nice beaches, this house is a great option (note that beaches are public in Panama so the occasional person walks by). Also, the owners are fabulous and honest. We booked through VRBO and everything went 100% perfect!!!!

Wow!

We spent six weeks in Costa Rica and Panama with our two young children, and the week that we spent here was our favorite. It is an incredibly beautiful and peaceful location. While the house is open, we had the least trouble with bugs here than we did anywhere else on our trip. I can't explain it, but it is true. The beautiful, glass-like water, perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkeling. There is a lovely fishing village with great, fresh bread just a stroll away. I would highly-recommend this location to anyone looking to get away, relax and enjoy nature.

Paradise Found!

I can only agree with the other positive reviews on this sight. I have traveled extensively, and the Casa Sol Y La Luna is one of the most beautiful and relaxing places I have ever stayed. The house itself is beautiful with reliable hot water and 12V electricity and the location provides a feeling of seclusion while being an easy walk to the nearby resorts in case you don't want to make all of your own meals (the food at Al Natural was excellent and is a fair value considering the location and the fact that wine is included). While the "cons" listed in the previous review are mostly accurate, the type of traveler you are will determine if these facts are actually "cons" at all. If you want constant 110V electricity and the absence of all insects, then you should know better than to stay on Bestimentos in the first place - perhaps the Trump hotel in Panama City would be a better fit! The house was spotless, and is in an excellent state of repair. Sunanda and Vincent could not have been more helpful and approachable hosts. We stayed for only four nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Be warned: after staying here you may find future beach accommodations pale in comparison, and your memories of falling asleep and waking up only to the sound of the waves and the jungle will make want to return again and again! Thank you so much Sunanda and Vincent, for memories of a fabulous family vacation that will last a lifetime!

Nice, but....

As an introduction: We stayed as a family of three for two weeks during April. First, let’s repeat the pluses: It is in general a very nice house, adjacent to a small beach, embedded in tropical rainforest nature. The sea is very calm, suitable also for small children. The owner Vincent is a very nice guy who is very responsive to all kinds of requests . Al Natural Resort is very close by and offers a fine dinner (US$ 35 pp incl. wine). Also, their kayaking and snorkeling equipment was free to use. The showers are hot and have good water pressure. Now lets come to some minuses: - privacy: It is not that “there is virtually nobody around”. Al Natural Resort is two minutes to the left and Hotel Casa Cayuco two minutes to the right. This leads to many tourists and locals alike to pass by the house. The four meter wide beach in front of the house is the only pathway. And they all can look into kitchen and living room. - electricity: As described, the property is running on solar with a battery (as all of the houses on that beach). However, the result for the house is different than with the other houses: It seemed to us that the owners invested less in electricity than others. 110 V was only usable for us during daytimes, since the power was not sufficient during nighttime. - Fans: The house has only one ceiling fan – mounted in the living room. It was usable for us only during daytime. In the master bedroom there is only a very small fan running on 12 V. - Cleanliness: We had the feeling that the cleaning of the house had not been done in a way that is needed in such conditions. Rust, mildew (basically in all the books in the house), ants and other bugs and other things give you an impression that the house is not perfectly being looked after. Especially the fridge is really worrying (full of rust and other things). - Bats: At night you see bats flying into and out of the house. The remains of one or more bats could be found each night on the refrigerator. This was extremely gross – and we heard that bats are not really known as the healthiest animals to human beings. - Bugs: This house is not (and cannot be) a bug free house. It is full of ants, cockroaches, geckoes, spiders etc. In summary, we had a nice time in the house. We just feel that some more investment of the owners might be needed (especially given the high rental price) and wanted to make other people aware of some things that are not mentioned here.

Best kept secret

This place is addictive! Spending a week at this house and in Bastimentos Island really changed our lives!. It just made us appreciate it much more! Sunanda was great answering all our questions and very friendly and so patience after meeting us at the airport and taking us to do some shopping. Pictures don't do any justice. The house is beautiful and super comfortable and the view is un-be-lie-va-ble. We never thought it could be that perfect!. We felt like home since our arrival. We cannot explain the joy we had at arrival and the sadness we felt leaving that place. There is a well equipment kitchen, very comfortable sofa and hammocks to have the best naps!, a perfect shaded porch with barbecue, three very comfortable bedrooms with fans to keep you cool looking at the ocean and two great open tiled bathrooms! I am not a bug person but this was not an issue at all! The island is amazing in every sense. You can go for walks along the beach, visit Salt Creek village, or take a boat and see other islands or do some activities. But we loved to do nothing! It was just perfect for us…to clear our minds, to spend some quality time with great friends, to just be. There is a resort called “all natural” five minutes walking from the house and it was the perfect complement. The food :you can have a three course delightful dinner + wine for US$ 35.00 and it is worth it. Vincent, the chef, is great in the kitchen and a great person to talk to as well! All the staff is fantastic…specially Martin and Nicole! They are very funny and great hosts. They can also organize different excursions for you if wanted and the diving with Nicole is a must!. We will be back...very soon!

Lovely, peaceful and perfect

We left a week ago but I still feel the cool breeze and smell the flowers. So many things about this place have already been written a so I'll just share the suprises. The house is open but the bugs are no problem at all and I hate bugs. The sounds at night are so restful I wish I had recorded them. The back deck is a perfect place to have a shaded afternoon barbeque. You can never bring too much wine, it seems. The Al Natural Resort is far enough away and close enough for a night out and to arrange any of the many things to do. Having a lot to do makes doing nothing more fun. Nicole and Martin were wonderful, helping out the owners for our welcome and any support we might need. Sunanda and Vincent are great. I loved this place and the friends I went with....

Beach house

This is our second visit to Bastimentos Island and we can not wait for March '13 when we plan to go back and stay again in above house. We loved the place - it is cozy and comfortable. Easy to relax with beautiful view. Al Natural is next to the house where Vincent's food is as in any good French restaurant but if you want to cook on your own locals will make sure to supply you with fresh fish. AMAZING!!

This house is unbelievable. As we pulled up to the dock and saw the house for the first time, we knew we were lucky people. The pictures on this site are beautiful, but when you see it in person, you won’t believe your eyes. Beautiful turquoise water right out in front of the house with a nice dock to sun bathe on. An amazing master suite with a private balcony, open mosaic tiled showers looking into the jungle, two other bedrooms upstairs, all looking out on the ocean. The house has everything you could possibly need, super comfy furniture, hammocks, outside shower so you can rinse after a swim, porches out front and back, and a great system of fans throughout the house to keep you cool. The owners of the house are wonderful folks who take care of you too. We were met at the airport, went shopping in town, and then took off on a boat for the house. The house is on a foot path you can hike in either direction, either down to the local native village or the other direction to Al Natural for drinks and dinner. Local folks have johnny cakes / bread rolls for sale if you want, and you can even arrange to have dinner cooked and delivered to the house. We had a great coconut fish dish with some local side dishes. It was really good. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. You can stay at the house and just have beach time, or you can jump on a boat and explore all of the other islands, beaches, snorkel spots, and restaurants built over the water. The possibilities are endless.

Idyllic Beach House

We were a large group of 6 adults and 3 children and the owners were gracious enough to accomodate us. The property took our breath away - and exceeded all expectations. Our stay was as restful as we hoped it could be, we ventured away only one of the five days we were there as we had no reason to seek a better location! I would recommend eating at Al Natural as other reviewers have suggested, but also walking a bit further to the village and picking up the catch of the day from the fishermen and fresh coconut bread from the locals - an unmissable experience. I highly recommend this property!

What an incredible home- those pictures do not do it justice. The house is off the grid, built by local villagers, and captures the flavour of the island perfectly. It is rustic but comfortable and absolutely beautiful. With Au Natural Resort about a 3 minute walk up the beach, we always had somewhere to grab a drink and enjoy some company. We took a day trip with the resort to Coral Quay and Dolphin Bay- a must see. Sunanda and Vincent were such gracious hosts. Sunanda has a restaurant in Bocas town- Om cafe- fabulous Indian food- don't miss their breakfast. Vincent is a chef at Au Natural Resort- make sure you join the resort for dinner on the nights that he's cooking. They took care of all of the transfers to and from the house and we're very organized and trustworthy.

Amazing, but not for everybody.

We stayed 4 nights at casa sol y la luna. This was the most interesting stop on our 28-day trip, but it's not for those accustomed to creature comforts. The pluses: -Vincent, one of the owners and quite a character, is the chef at al natural and we were able to eat our dinners at al natural together with the al natural guests and owners. It is a 4 minute walk along a path adjacent to the beach. The food was outstanding and Vincent was fair in what he charged us. All of the guests, from all over the world, sit around one long table. It is lovely and was our most pleasant memory of our entire trip. -There is a kayak and you can use the al natural boats for local excursions($60 for partial day and $80 for full day for a boat with driver). -The house is large and has plenty of sleeping space (3 bedrooms). It has a fully-equipped kitchen. -It is right on the beach and the surf is quite gentle. You can walk for about a mile along the beach and you can also snorkel a couple of hundred feet out from the house. -the mbr shower is a lovely open-air affair, with view of the ocean. -great nature and snorkelling nearby -it is very safe -local fishermen deliver fresh catch to your door -relatively close to zapatillas and coral cay Here are the minuses: -It is totally open to the outside, so there are lots of strange bugs and spiders in the house at night. -You have to sleep under bug nets, though the bug nets do protect you. -There is a seawall in front of the house, resulting in loud surf overnight and possibly not the most restful sleep. -The house is solar, so there is no a/c and even the ceiling fans use up a lot of electricity and are loud. -There are some mildew issues. -There is no TV or internet. There is no internet at al natural either, and only spotty cel coverage via a local carrier, which our canadian carrier didn't cover, so we were totally unplugged while we were there. On our last day, we found out that the bar at an empty resort adjacent to the house had internet, and it worked, but slowly. -The house is not totally private. It is built close to the water and there is a path between the house and the water along which the ngobe-bugle walk from their village going to who-knows-where. On the other hand, it was interesting getting to meet and chat with some of them. We never made it to the village, as it was a long walk (30+ mins) -Have to bring all of your groceries with you. -The boat trip to Bocas is long (30+ mins) and can be rough. You must stay put

more then a paradise........

We stayed for 9 days in this beautiful place. We were 2 young couples trying to find a place where we can enjoy the tranquility and the beautiful caribbean flair. With this place we really did find what we were looking for. The house is even more beautiful then the pictures are promising. We really enjoyed the awesome dinners and the good drinks at the "Al Natural Resort" which is 3 minutes walk away from the house. Every day you can get fresh fish from the local fishermen which are catching them right in front of the house for a really cheap price. (Crawfish 0.25 Dollars per piece) It is a great place for relaxing, swimming and enjoying your life and the nature which is literally right in front of your doorstep. The best choice for your vacation in Panama!!!!

We are and Indian and Belgian couple who have 2 children aged 13 and 14. One of us owns and Indian restaurant called OM cafe in Bocas town and the other is the manager and chef at the Al Natural resort just a 3 minute walk from the house. You can book a dinner anytime you don't feel like cooking and the food is amazing!

This is our personal home for most of the year but we go away on vacation annually and thought it would be a good idea to share our beautiful home with others to enjoy.

What makes this property unique

This place is so tranquil and beautiful. You sleep with the sound of the waves and wake with the singing of the birds. It´s great for bird lovers and beach lovers. It´s a wonderful place for kids. Our kids love it!!! It will be an unforgettable experience and will make you appreciate nature the way we do living there.
