Périgord: If you are new to Périgord: the old county around the Dordogne, formerly part of the Roman province of Aquitaine and the 15th century property of the English crown, is located in southwestern France, 100 kilometers northeast of Bordeaux and 500 kilometers south of Paris. In the Périgord you will find more castles and palaces than on the Loire and more mushrooms and truffles than anywhere else. There they still exist, the small typical French Épicerien, Boulangerien, Boucherien and bistros, the intimate restaurants with the luscious menus and the weekly farmers markets in the picturesque market places.
Our tip: The big weekly markets, Wednesdays in Piégut, Fridays in Brantome and Saturdays in Nontron.
More information about PÉRIGORD can be found on the internet ... Link: Best of Périgord Dordogne. Link: The Aquitaine.
The Green Périgord: The 'Perigord Vert' is hilly, idyllic and picturesque. Oak forests, vineyards, meadows, countless lakes, wheat, tobacco, and sunflower fields alternate and encourage hiking and cycling. Almost on your doorstep you can rent horses, explore streams and rivers by canoe or kayak, go fishing in secret lakes or the streams, Bandiat and Tardoire trout and visit the golf courses or tennis courts in the neighboring villages. The mile-long sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean are approximately 120 kilometers away, the world-famous prehistoric caves of Lascaux, Les Eyziers and Villars, the wine cellars of Bergerac and Bordelais and the historic villages of Perigueux, Bergerac, Brantome, Sarlat, Aubeterre, Saint Emilion and Cognac are fast reachable. Our villages in the 'Perigord vert' have been spared from mass tourism, visit nearby: Busserolles, Piégut, Saint Estephe, Nontron, Javerlac and Varaignes.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.
