Good property. Clean and good location. Had a lot of stink bugs and wasps that got inside on the 3rd floor and wife didn't like the stink bugs falling on us in the bed. Was provided a handheld vacuum to get them up. Very nice owner who stayed in communication with me the whole time. Only one of the TVs worked but ok only there 2 nights. Kitchen well stocked with all supplies and farmhouse had a ton of character and was decorated nice.
Excellent and timely communication before and during our stay. Property description was accurate and fit our needs for a Christmas gathering. An excellent place to stay for Gold Cup and other Great Plains event(s) in that part of Virginia. Thank you for having us stay at your property.

Robert, thanks so much for sharing your positive experience and please come back to see us again. We have a long list of outdoor events and festivals this year, including but not limited to equine. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Tom
We had a great stay and the house and property were what we were looking for. Tom was a great host, great communication and ensuring we had what we needed. Weather was great for camp fires and hiking the trails on the property.
We enjoyed staying here. The place is quaint and feels like living in the middle of the forest, but safe and comfortable. The nooks in the house are well-planned, gives us a feeling of being in a historic home.
The host, Tom, was so flexible while we waited to see what happened with a snowstorm. The kitchen was well stocked, the house was decorated for Christmas, and comfy throws were on the chairs. It felt like a family member had left their home open to us and we had a fabulous time.

The host and location were very welcoming. The Halloween and fall decorations made us feel right at home. What stood out the most was the second floor sitting room with the fireplace. It was cozy and calming and we could have sat there all night! Looking forward to our next visit!

This is hands down the best property to stay in for a comfortable, close to nature experience. I stayed here with my girlfriend and a group of friends and we had a blast hiking around the property, hanging out by the fire pit, cooking dinners together, and watching scary movies. It was pet friendly and the dog had a great time running around. 10/10 experience and I am looking forward to booking it again this winter!

Paul and his group were great guests. They were courteous, communicated well, enjoyed the home and property, and took great care of the house. We would love to have them back.
The house was amazing! The exterior looks rustic, but for the most part the interior was modernized. The house was large with more than enough space for the 5 people who went on trip with me. It's located in a very nice, quiet area that let us be away from the world and in peace for awhile. We also had ample space for food storage, cooking, etc., and the owners were even kind enough to give us sparkling cider. They were also extremely nice, communicative, and open to helping us during our stay. By far my favorite thing about the house is the history - even though they modernized it, you can still absolutely feel the history in the house. If you're looking for a place to stay that's peaceful and relatively close to D.C., this is it!

This stunning home is a hidden gem, nestled on a gorgeous property with a charming access road that feels like a secret escape. The house was spotlessly clean, wonderfully accommodating, and offered perfect privacy. Tom was a fantastic host— his communication was top-notch, and he was quick to respond to any questions. Andrea, it was such a joy to have you and your extended family visit us, including Knot Head (the golden retriever service dog). I am sure that you set a travel record with arrivals from Louisiana, Virginia, Utah, Nevada, and Maryland, and New York. I’m also sure that’s the biggest monopoly game we’ve ever seen on our dining room table! I know it’s a long way for you to travel, but we would love to have you back, and certainly to have your family from the Plains come visit us anytime.
Safe travels and God bless. Tom.
The farmhouse was charming. The host has done a great job of updating the rooms and bathrooms while still keeping the charm of an 1800s farm house. The location was perfect for visiting wineries, orchards and upscale restaurants in nearby Marshall. There were 6 of us and it never felt crowded.

About the host
Hosted by Tom Peterson
For over 50 years the owners and their family have brought a sense of respect for the local community, its rural heritage, and the natural landscape. They have provided care and protection to the home and property as well as sharing it with others of all ages. They love the land the people and wildlife it sustains.
Why they chose this property
The owners recognized the special natural, cultural, and historical values of the property when they first saw it over five decades ago and embraced its preservation and appreciation. Special features include an abundance of serenity, scenery, hiking, nature, picnicking, dining, stargazing, and photographic opportunities. Many think its greatest attribute is the ability to get a good night’s sleep punctuated only by the sound of rain on the metal roof, or the occasional passage of the Norfolk Southern train through Manassas Gap. The surrounding region is considered one of the most scenic in the state and provides a wide range of experiences, destinations, and amenities. These include scenery, wildlife and ecotourism, photography, solitude, history, farming and agri tourism, arts and crafts, outdoor recreation, parks, education, nearby towns and villages, festivals and events, equestrian activities, churches, shopping, food and dining. The host has traveled to over 40 US states and 30 countries in all regions of the world -- much spent on professional assignment in the field -- and truthfully cannot think of a more genuine place to recommend for people of all ages, particularly families with children. A listing of local amenities and destinations is available to guests, including over 50 within a 15–20-minute drive, over 150 within a half hour, and over 200 within an hour drive under normal conditions.
What makes this property unique
This historic county home is the real thing and and a unique treasure. You can feel the history under its roof and beneath your feet as you walk the land around you. The home's history dates to the 1700's when Europeans first settled the region, but of course its greater history reaches back throughs the ages and the many native peoples and wildlife who made it their life and legacy. It provides access to a wide range of diverse, authentic experiences and destinations for history, nature, recreation, solitude, and community on site and nearby that are geared to people of all ages. It is safe, quiet, and rich in a variety of authentic rural and outdoor experiences. The home was recently renovated to provide modern conveniences, stronger resilience to harsh weather, and sustainable living in keeping with its historic character and architecture.
