About the host
Hosted by Marilyn Einspanier
In the late 1980s Andy and I began to dream of living in the western states, near mountains - how could we do this? The dream of owning a hotel in the rockies evolved into the dream of owning a cabin rental business in the upper midwest - we explored Minnesota and Wisconsin - looked at over 40 properties over 4 years .
Delta Lodge offered well-constructed cabins and a beautiful lake in the forest. We purchased in 1990. We have had 3 cabins built, #11, #12 and Hillside, during our time.
Andy is now retired. We have 2 children whom are now adults, Andrew and Zach. Thankfully they still need a word of encouragement or perspective from either of us. While friends and co-owners of Delta Lodge, Andy and I are divorced.
I was born in 1960 and Andy was born in 1951 - you can do the math.
I am the general manager, I have lots of help operating the cabins and grounds. It takes more than a few hard-working and friendly employees.
Why they chose this property
The township of Delta area is set in a forest/lake/river setting that feels untouched by time. The area was glaciated. For this reason the area has many springs - some small, some large. The Pike Lake Chain to the north drains into Bear/Delta/Hay lakes, and on into on of the streams which forms the White River. The spring at Basswood Lake creates the west fork of the White River. There are trout ponds in the middle of the forest (you gotta hike in) which also contribute to the formation of the White.
Lake Everett, where Delta Lodge resides, also has springs. When swimming the thermocline is felt and it is pretty clear you are swimming over a spring. All springs in Lake Everett are self-contained. That is, they don't contribute to the White River. Lake Everett has a high water quality/clarity - secchi dish reading to 13+ feet.
So, why this area? The pristine water found throughout the area, and the surrounding forest.
Let us all be deeply grateful to the people who over 100 years ago began to set aside designated forest areas. Proactive preservationists.
What makes this property unique
That guests are able to bring their four-legged family members makes Delta Lodge a choice for people with pets. That we have a more relaxed approach with people/dogs is appreciated.
People arrive with the cares of their job and life filled with time-pressured stressors. Restorative time in nature, with or without extended families, is so important to our cabin guests. Frequently the guest who arrives and the guest who departs are different versions of the core person - the later, much more at peace. Guests frequently voice how important their time here is - and that they look forward to being back.
