About this property

Breathtaking Views of Yellowstone on the Yellowstone River in a Luxury Lodge!

We have an absolutely ideal location... amazing views and convenience too..

AND the home has been entirely renovated. So be prepared to enjoy many new improvements - hard wood floors, kitchen with granite counter tops, new windows, recycled wood ceiling and beams, updated private bedroom/bathroom suites through out, new furniture, game room with pool table, ping pong table and more....

Start your days watching the gorgeous sunrise on Electric Peak (one of the highest mountains in Yellowstone National Park) right from the breakfast table with the gentle sounds of the Yellowstone River flowing by the property. Our lodge is perched above the Yellowstone River with an expansive view overlooking Yellowstone National Park. Wildlife abounds! Watch eagles, osprey and ravens soar over the River. From the dining room or deck off the back, we've watched a wolf pack pursue and take down a pronghorn, eagles catching fish in the river, bison herds grazing, elk swimming across the river and a pronghorn give birth to twins! You never know what you may see - it can be utterly amazing wildlife encounters or simply the awe inspiring beauty of the mountains and river. Our view is south facing, so there's lots of sunlight to soak in all day long. At the end of the day, grill in the yard and let the kids play on the swing set or just sit on the deck while you watch the sunset reflections on the river and enjoy the 'big sky' views of Montana and Yellowstone.

The convenience of our property will make your vacation feel simplified and relaxed. You can walk to the grocery store, restaurants, ice cream and pizza too...check out the bookstore, gift shops or even white water rafting outfitters where they'll 'suit you up' and take you rafting down the river, right by your vacation home! The Roosevelt Arch at the northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park is just a mile away. And just a couple miles from there, you can soak in the Boiling River - the hot springs in Yellowstone Park. There's A LOT to experience in Yellowstone (we certainly love it!) and we'd be happy to point you in the right direction and help make it a vacation of a lifetime for you.

Beautiful home with breathtaking views. Met all our expectations! Enjoyed being so close to the park and walking distance to town. Had a great time exploring the park and surrounding areas. The men had a great time fishing everyday on the Yellowstone river. Watching the wildlife from outside our windows was the highlight of the trip. Would love to return to this area and this house again ! Thanks for opening up your home, it was a treat.

Great View

We enjoyed our stay. The view of the Yellowstone River can't be beat. While drinking morning coffee, I watched an elk go down to the river, drink, swim and roll around on its back. We used the three upstairs bedrooms. The downstairs rooms were a bit cold despite turning the heat on. High quality appliances and a well stocked kitchen. I would stay here again.

Amazing views!

We loved how close this property is to Yellowstone’s north entrance compared to other listings, and it seems they have the best view in town! The mountains and Yellowstone River in the backyard are breathtaking. It was a bonus to have a well designed home with 5 beds and 5 baths for all of us to spread out, along with the owners artwork throughout. The kids loved the downstairs game room, and we loved the spacious and artistic dining room table and the stocked kitchen so we could make all of our meals in house and simply enjoy the view! Dorothy was an amazing host with communications and she left us delicious treats. We would highly recommend this property!

Made memories!

This was a great house for our children and grandchildren as we celebrated my husband’s retirement. The location to Yellowstone National Park was very convenient and we were able to walk to nearby restaurants. The house had beautiful artwork throughout. I loved the large dining table that was like a shadow box full of artifacts. Every bedroom had their own bathroom, each was unique with rustic decor. The kitchen had everything we needed for meals at home. Dorothy was great to work with and very attentive with any problems that came up. The best part was the wildlife we could see from the deck overlooking the River.

As beautiful as the pictures, comfy for 10

Our two families had a wonderful stay at this vacation rental. It is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. Once you are in the home, you don't even realize you are in the small town of Gardiner. The focus of the home's windows is the beautiful view into Yellowstone park. We enjoyed watching a mother elk and her calf, the rafters on the river and the sun play on the mountains at different times of day. Other delighters of this home were the comfy bedding and mattresses, plenty of dishes so that if one meal is in the dishwasher you still have clean plates and glasses. The owners were more than gracious with any questions we had. Ask them where to see the wildlife.

Montana side of Yellowstone

We enjoyed our Yellowstone trip more than any previous times. Shirl and her property manager Dorothy made our stay perfect; all questions preceding our arrival were promptly answered and during our stay. We saw elk, an eagle, and daily from the back porch over the Yellowstone river and watched big horn sheep through the spotting scope they had set up in the house. There were delicious scones on the table so didn't have to run out our first morning for breakfast or coffee. We had 5 adult couples and all found their rooms with ensuite bathrooms to be most convenience and excellent for their privacy. We would definitely stay with Shirl again. We found the north entrance to the park to be less crowded and more animals to observe. Thank you for sharing your very special home.

Perfect Home for Gathering of Friends-Super Design-Comfortable and Great Location

This house has a unique modern design with western rustic flair. The best feature is that each bedroom has its own bathroom ( all beautifully designed ) making if very comfortable for a group of adults. My husband who was a gourmet chef, loved the kitchen. It was spacious and allowed 2 of us to work at the same time without bumping into each other. The living and dining area, with a porch, is super and has a big dining table. My favorite was the back bedrooms face the river, and you can fall asleep to the flow of the river. The game room had a lot to offer, although we did not use it much. The house’s location is so perfect , right next to the Yellowstone Park Gate, and you could walk to the town. We would love to come back, and we thank the owner Shirl, who was really nice and gracious. Our group was adults between 35-55, from Germany, US and Czech Republic and we all agreed it was just the perfect vacation in the perfect house.

Location, Location, Location!

This lovely home is perfectly located with stunning views of the Yellowstone River and Electric Peak. Shops were all within walking distance, and the entrance to the park was only one mile away. Our family of 12 thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The beds were very comfortable, and each bedroom has its own bathroom. The home has beautiful decor, artwork from the owners and a unique, rustic decor with wood beamed ceilings, furniture and bathroom fixtures. The owners of the home were extremely welcoming and eager to tell us about the area, and we received homemade bread and handmade soap (in the shape of the state of Montana), which were very nice personal touches. On one of the days during our stay, we had additional family members visiting, which brought our total to 16. The house never felt crowded, and it was the perfect space for entertaining with the open floor plan. The kids all enjoyed the game room. Many hours were spent playing ping pong and pool. All of us enjoyed the views from the back porch. The sunrises, wildlife, and nature were amazing. It was also the perfect spot to watch whitewater rafting groups row down the River. We all felt very lucky to have found this house during our visit to Yellowstone. We highly recommend this house!

Breathtaking AND Convenient!

I can't find the words to describe our experience. The house is amazing. Its location was absolutely perfect: We could walk out the front door each day and were across the street from a bar and grill, a pizza place, and more. The Gardiner Market was a short walk down the street, plus we could walk over the bridge and do some shopping with Roosevelt Tour in our view. The best part, though, was stepping into the beautiful home. While all things convenient were in front, the view from the back made it feel like we were in the wilderness. It was such a contrast! I can still hear the sound of the Yellowstone River (we slept with the bedroom windows each night). Sitting on the deck, looking at the mountains, and getting a glimpse of wildlife made it feel like we never left the park. We made a fire at night as we sipped wine and listened to the river: So peaceful! The house well-stocked and had so many tiny touches,I don't want to spoil them, other than to say I've stayed at a lot of VRBOs with great hosts, but never one so thoughtful as this one. It was so spacious with everyone able to spread out (great after long days together). In addition to visiting sections of the park each day, we worked with the Flying Pig (same street as the house, about 10 min walk) on three excursions: Rafting, horseback ride, and "Cowboy Cookout" and Fly Fishing. We couldn't have been more pleased with their service and fun style. It was a magical experience we will dream about!

This house was all we hoped it would be and we would happily stay there again. In the morning, the view of sunrise on Electric Peak with the rushing water of the Yellowstone below was spectacular. The house is beautiful - the common areas and kitchen were spacious, easily accommodating us. We loved the artwork created by the owners. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to fix our meals. The entrance to Yellowstone Park is less than a 5 minute drive. The house is located on the main street through town, but we did not find this to be a problem. Communication with the house manager was easy - she always replied quickly. An excellent property.

Great location, very relaxing and beautiful view. Very spacious! the only thing that I was disappointed in- how close the houses and town was to the house. The pictures taken make it look like no one else was around the house, when in fact there is a hotel and stores right across the street. So that part was disappointing, no mention of any of it in the listing.

Dads 80th Birthday

You are impressed with this beautiful home the second you open the doors, the view is absolutely gorgeous. The home was spacious enough for our 9 adults, we never felt crowded. The kitchen has everything you need should you decide to cook, we did 3 nights, there was plenty of plates for dinners and breakfasts.Dorothy was helpful and kind enough to help me find a lady in town to bake a cake for my dads 80th birthday. I honestly can't say enough about this property, the owners are artists and you can tell by all the details they put into it,the locals call it the art house. The Yellowstone river is right outside, with the windows open you can hear it flowing, you can sit outside and watch the rafts going down the rapids. On our last morning there was an elk right outside my sister's window. The house is located close enough to walk to restaurants and shopping. Our family didn't want to leave, we cant say enough about this spectacular home.worth every penny.

Family getaway

Stayed in this lovely home with our 4 adult sons and a few significant others-have never vacationed with all my kids as adults. WONDERFUL place. Extremely clean and right on the river. Location couldn’t have been better. 5 minutes to north entrance of Yellowstone. Everything we needed in a great kitchen, several places to hang out. Lots of privacy with each of the 5 bedrooms having their own bathrooms. Dorothy went the extra mile with coffee and scones and lovely birthday flowers and sign for me-loved it. Great place for large group visiting Yellowstone

Property is beautiful and has all amenities needed for a large group. The host left us fresh scones that were delicious. Easy check-in once I figured out the communication via VRBO. We did notice that something was likely left at the property but we have not yet recovered it. Hopefully the cleaning crew found and reports it.

Beautiful home and wonderful people

This house is absolutely stunning! The decor and attention to detail in the furniture and art added so much to the experience of Yellowstone! We loved the river outside and spent every morning drinking coffee and every afternoon watching the elk! Lots of room for the family and the pool table was a hit for game night! We lived the books, games and puzzles! Our favorite was the beautiful dining room table with Shirl Ireland’s art and imagination. Truly unique and stunning! If you fish, go to the old Yellowstone trail across the river and fish the Yellowstone!!! Finally, Dorothy made this visit extra special. She handles all of our questions quickly and left us wonderful scones! One of the best houses we have ever stayed in! We even saw a bear the last morning!!

Yellowstone multigenerational family vacation

This welcoming, comfortable home had everything for our group of 8. We enjoyed morning coffee on the back deck overlooking the river, walking into Gardiner, rafting on the river, home cooked meals and eating at the restaurants, cocktail time in the evenings around the fire pit looking at the stars and 4 glorious days in Yellowstone National Park. Terrific host.

Hosted by Dorothy Dears

Host profile image
I am an artist, living, working and raising 2 children, at the edge of Yellowstone with my business partner/husband, also an artist. I enjoy living in the midst of wildlife, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world - and take advantage of my Yellowstone 'back yard' (literally!) every chance I get. I paint outside in Yellowstone often and in my 'spare time', I hike, cross country ski, canoe and kayak.... and remodel ;)

Why they chose this property

We literally searched for years looking for 'the spot'. We are artists fortunate enough to live where ever we'd like. Our property is on the Yellowstone River overlooking Yellowstone National Park. The mountain and river views are gorgeous and we're at the edge of a wonderful, friendly small town. We can walk to the grocery store and Yellowstone National Park too! Hiking, skiing and soaking in the Hot Springs are just minutes away. Plus, we're close enough to take advantage of Livingston and Bozeman, MT - a couple great towns with good vibes and bigger amenities. You can get to lots of art, outdoor activities and shopping after a beautiful drive up Paradise Valley (aptly named). That's why we call our spot 'the center of the universe.'

What makes this property unique

Not too many places on this Earth have what we have. How many people can watch a wolf pack hunt, eagles and osprey catch fish, bison herds graze, elk swim and twin pronghorns born - right from their dining room window? We watch Electric Peak (one of the highest mountains in Yellowstone Park) as the sun rises it turns a beautiful 'morning pink' with the soft sounds of the river in the background. We can watch the sun set and turn the river to a ribbon of orange, then at night, with the moon above, the river again comes alive and sparkles with the moons reflection. How could we want anymore?
