Beachfront on Chiquita Beach

wonderful home; totally open air; easily available and pleasant caretaker, David. The howler monkeys and the jungle birds were just awesome. the beach is reached by a very short path and is quite private. The cabana was very appreciated by guests. It would be a marvelous place for older kids (not toddlers, due to open stairs) and families. The restaurant just down the beach is great; Da Lime.

3 nights in late February. The 2nd floor bedrooms and balcony were absolute perfection - clean, comfortable, extremely attractive and wonderfully breezy, with amazing views of nature - we could even see the water!! And while we had to figure out where to look, we were able to see several howler monkeys climbing through the nearby trees! The ground floor had concrete floors and was less special, which was fine, but the couches, which looked nice in the photos, must not have held up well to the humidity, so were covered in vinyl and scratchy throws; and the outdoor seating in the photos was brought indoors and replaced by cheap plastic patio chairs. The pool was very shallow, but its lighting set a nice mood. The direct access to the beach was amazing!! Note that the direct path leads to a part of the beach full of branches and brush, but it's not difficult to maneuver around it to get to the water and the incredibly gorgeous beach. There were even people riding horses on the beach! One of the toilets had some flushing problems, but we were able to rig it to work. Shower water was only luke warm (probably typical for the area), and a little water was leaking from somewhere on the 2nd floor down to the concrete ground floor below. (We didn't use the 3rd floor or the other small building on the property, so I can't speak to them.) Overall, so glad we chose to stay here!

Open Beach House IN Nature

This place is remarkable— the views, the sounds, the breeze, the smells. This property has views of a very secluded beach. And you are in nature. Like in it in it. No windows or walls. The open walls and beautiful amenities make it a unique nature retreat. If you are squeamish about occasional bugs (or the stereo sounds of cicadas, howler monkeys, macaws) you should stay in a boring hotel. David is an excellent manager— Responsive and accommodating.

Magical Jungle Escape — With Some Jungle Grit

We had a great stay in this magical open to the jungle treasure. There are multiple bedrooms that are open to the outdoors (and one enclosed for the timid). Wonderful sleeping (and waking) to waves, howler monkey’s and macaw’s was a great to-be remembered experience. We were blessed by a two-toed sloth outside our entrance — closer than any we saw in multiple park visits; regular agouti’s; and more. The location was wonderful; steps to a beach (too rough for swimming, but great for stroll, sit and sunrises); short walk into Cocles (which has a great bakery); short drive or tuk-tuk to Puerto Viejo; and close to parks (DO visit the Macaw sanctuary). Do be ready for quirks/grit. The two best bedrooms open to the jungle are kind of open to each other, so privacy not a high point. Multiple showers — but mixed bag on water warmth and flow (and could use more soap/shampoo). And, it IS open…so animals can/do stroll through when you’re out and you need to be thoughtful on where/how you store food. Very responsive owners and local help (such as to replace gas tank for cooking).

Thank you Peter! This maybe the best review I have seen in my 15 years of hosting ! and i like good criticism as well ! Costa rica makes me want to build experimental houses and it Itself is an Adventure this one is special being where its located and the way it was designed I real thought of a Cathedral and adopted a 3000 year old Japanese roof all to be close to the elements on site without causing to much disturbance to the fauna Happy you got the idea!
