About this property

Terrace Suite Private Terrace & Fireplace

Built in 1908, by Joseph Cotton, the Cotton Mansion is a 16,000 square foot Italian Renaissance mansion and Carriage House located in the historic mansion district of Duluth, Mn. Beautiful custom-crafted details include an incredible array of hand-carved stone, exotic woods, Fifteenth Century Italian marbles, stunning mosaics and hand-carved plaster frieze ceilings. Experience the lifestyle of one of Duluth's great historic figures, Joseph Cotton, corporate attorney for US Steel (1901-1908) and independent council for John D Rockefeller through 1935. Cotton enjoyed a unique relationship with US Presidents, which included being chosen by Teddy Roosevelt to give his second nominating speech at the 1904 Republic Convention in Chicago. Relive the Era!

The Terrace Suite features a four-poster massive oak King bed with a comfortable pillow top, gas fireplace, and a spacious whirlpool for two in your Italian-tiled bathroom with walk-in shower. And during the summer your own private outdoor garden terrace.

Venture out of your private space and enjoy the shared living areas including the Living Room where you can relax in front of the massive Alabaster fireplace in comfortable furniture with a cup of coffee or a late afternoon glass of wine. This room boasts 15 ft. high beamed ceilings, original wall sconces and Russian Circadian White Oak Floors, a Grand Piano, and Chess Nook. Challenge your partner to a game! Grab a book and put your feet up in the library where you can let your imagination take you back in time to Joseph Cotton's Library and law office where the legal roots of Duluth's iron ore industry and US Steel were forged. This impressive room features a magnificent black marble fireplace, leather furniture, and black fumed woodwork. Books and artwork are for your enjoyment. Fabulous Stay

The historic mansion is beautifully maintained and is in a great neighborhood near all the great restaurants, the lake, UMD campus, hiking and Canal park. All the great things about Duluth are in close proximity! We had a wonderful time visiting our freshman son during parents' weekend at UMD.

Excellent Stay

The home is so amazing to walk through and take in all the historical features of architecture. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas and created a warm atmosphere for staying away from home after the holiday. We had the terrace room and were disappointed we could not use it due to the cold and snow. We plan to stay in that room again when the weather is nice so we can enjoy the view of the other beautiful homes on the street.

Great News Years getaway!

We stayed in the terrace room for the weekend around New years. Room and house are exactly what they look like. Will be back! Highly recommend! Great History! Water in the tub was hot and perfect!

Perfect

I took a friend on a mystery date for the weekend, they were so surprised and so was I at the beauty of the place. We slept well and everything was very comfortable. I would maybe think about offering some kind of food option for breakfast, that would have been fantastic!

Restful nights

The room was great! The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable! The reviews about the water temperature are accurate. You need to wait a LONG time to get hot water. The whirlpool tub never did get hot water, just warm enough. There was an event of some sort that was taking place on the grounds that would have been nice to know about beforehand. None-the-less, it was a very quiet and restful stay.

Charming cozy old Mansion

This house is very well kept, with original flooring and accents throughout. The accessibility is great, you only need an access code to come and go. Highly recommend!
