The Neighborhood: Eden Retreat is located 4 miles north of the town of Ennis. Ennis gets its name from the Irish word “inis” (island) because it is virtually surrounded by the River Fergus, a melodious presence throughout. The streets of Ennis are narrow and charming, with many areas pedestrianized. There are plenty of locals here—Ennis is no tourist trap—and you’ll hear voices that are raised in laughter or storytelling in bakeries and bookstores alike. It’s breath-taking and has a textured silence that speaks through the centuries.
Why the Owner Chose Ennis: The main attraction in Ennis is the locals’ love of traditional Irish music. The town is renowned as a hub of 'trad' music, and musicians of the highest quality are on display in the pubs of Ennis throughout the year. It often seems that those in town who can't sing or play an instrument are very much in the minority! Ennis is located near all the best attractions in the West of Ireland including the Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Galway, Limerick, Cork, the Blarney Stone and an array of beautiful beaches.
Getting Around: Eden Retreat is just 15 minutes from Shannon Airport, 2.5 hours from Dublin Airport. There is ample private parking on-site. As the house is not served by public transportation (other than taxis), having a rental car is essential.

Eden cottage is a beautiful property…clean, comfortably furnished, beautiful surroundings, close to Ennis and blessed with about 100 delightful sheep neighbors. We especially enjoyed the hot tub as well. Mark was perfect as a host be sure to read the property book. He provides all of the the info needed to enjoy your stay. It is a perfect place to recover from a long flight.
We loved Eden Cottage. We had a large group of 8 and the cottage was very comfortable. It's a great location for day trips. I highly recommend Eden Cottage.
The beds were comfortable and house was roomy. Super close to a convenient gas station and close to Ennis. We enjoyed exploring Ennis and hearing trad music in town. Lots of good pubs and food!
The property was very nice overall, plenty of room for our group of 7 adults and 2 children. The hot water situation for the showers was a bit confusing but ultimately not a huge issue. Very close to town and other attractions. Would highly recommend
Eden Retreat is a lovely home on a beautiful piece of property. We had sheep for neighbors in the field next door. We were a family of 8 adults and one toddler and were very comfortable in the house which is located near the town. Mark provided lots of suggestions for restaurants and shops and is an excellent communicator. House was clean and plenty of towels were provided. All in all you can’t go wrong with Eden Retreat.
We took my mom for her 70th birthday, Ennis Retreat did not disappoint . The house was perfect, the views from the home were breathtaking . Quick trip into the quaint town of Ennis. Short drive to the Cliffs and about an hour to Galway .
Mark is a perfect host, responds so quickly to any question. I would recommend his home to anyone looking for a little country but close enough to the pubs, cafes and restaurants .
- One minor suggestion, house needs a full length mirror for us ladies to see our full outfit before going out on the town .. lol

Stay was great hiuse had some problems, first major problem was you only could use hot water from 7 am to 8am, definitely not enough time for a family to shower. You could only use one electric shower at a time due to the possibility of tripping a breaker Once again, nowhere near enough space for an entire family for a five bedroom house lastly, the outside deck is very slippery, but more importantly, several boards are rotted away to where you fall through the deck while walking on it definitely a trip hazard and a safety hazard.

"It felt like home"
Wow!!
This place was amazing! A spacious, beautiful home out in the country with all the amenities you could possibly need. This was the third and final home that a group of 8 of us rented during a two week visit to London and Ireland and it was easily the best of the three. As one person said, "Walking through the doors for the first time it felt like home."
The hot tub was amazing and just what we needed to relax after the hustle and bustle of the previous 10 days and the house itself was roomy and beautiful. We even got daily visits from Charlie, the neighbour's friendly dog.
While you'll likely want a car if you book this place (and the roads are a little tight if you're used to North American driving), Ennis is a short 10 minute drive away and has anything you need.
We set up in this location for three nights and used it as a home base while making day trips to the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, and Ashford Castle for some falconry (highly recommended!!!). It was a great location for exploring the western side of Ireland and we would all highly recommend it to any groups looking for a place to stay in the area.

Wonderful Stay in Ennis
Our group of five recently stayed three nights in the Eden Cottage Retreat. It truly lives up to its name.
Booking was easy and Mark was always quick and helpful in his responses to any inquiry. He provided a wonderful overview of the area and excellent directions to the house.
The house itself is beautiful, well kept and had all the amenities we needed. It is nestled away so you feel as if you are in your own little world at the edge of a wonderful vista of green hills, yet it's only a five to ten minute drive to shopping and restaurants. The house is also very near the M18, which links Ennis conveniently to Shannon Airport and runs from Galway to Limerick and beyond, making the house an excellent location for exploring the west of Ireland.
We were able to easily take day trips to Ennis, Connemara, Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, and we even ventured as far as the Dingle Peninsula. Dingle was about two hours, but it is a beautiful drive and well worth the time, in my view.
Had we stayed a bit longer, we may have used the hot tub, which is a nice bonus, but we were there long enough to get a visit from Charlie : )
I would highly recommend the Eden Cottage Retreat and we hope to return someday!
Wonderful experience from the first contact with the owner until the final day! Beautiful house and grounds. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, patio was great for morning coffee and yoga. Easy access to Ennis which has great pubs, shops and places to gather with extended family.
Owner/host was amazingly helpful, answering many questions and providing detailed driving directions and great suggestions for dining and shopping.
Highly recommend this beautiful property!
Our family of eight spent four wonderful days at Eden Retreat. The house is nicely appointed and equipped. We could all eat breakfast together in the dining area off of the kitchen. Our teen had her own lair in the house that has the hot tub. The yards are beautifully maintained. Moreover, the retreat is well located just North of with convenient access to West Clare and The Burren. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful week at the Eden Retreat in Ennis. It was a home base as we traveled to the west coast and Limerick and all around. Our kids loved the different books, toys, games and even dress up options and we loved that there was plenty of space to have down time, as well as super comfortable beds and a nice kitchen and dining area. We also loved the hot tub and the patio yard area. It was perfect for our family of 6. Would definitely return!
This lovely home located just 10 minutes outside of Ennis was the perfect home for our large group of 9 adults. Communication with the host was prompt. Check in was great and got late check out no problem. Home accommodated all of us with enough bathrooms as well. The guest house with the hottub was great for one of our couples. You have sheep in your backyard which is very Irish. If you are touring around the west coast this is a perfect location. Would recommend this lovely home for small or large groups. Thanks so much for everything.
We all had a wonderful stay, great for touring County Clare. The house is very cosy.
The house is everything it said it would be and more. What a lovely county to explore with rugged coastline, forest walks and tourist trails… Clare has it all. Then to have a tot-tub to come home to in the evening, sheer bliss, what more can I say.
We booked this property in January because it had hot tub and we were planning on an Irish rainy holiday, as it turned out it came in very useful to cool down in the evenings. We were three generation family and plenty room for all. A short run to Ennis for outside dining and had many takeaways outside on the deck in the cool of the evening. The nearby lake was a great attraction for kayaking etc and Lahinch about thirty minute journey. A very enjoyable Staycation
An amazing property in an amazing location!
The house looks great online but it’s the small touches in person that make it perfect!
Would highly recommend and am already in the middle of booking a second stay later this year! Can’t wait to go back!
Absolutely beautiful, spacious property with wonderful amenities.
(TV Offerings were great!)
The only slight drawbacks are: The back door was a little tricky to open and the deck around the hot tub is quite slippery when wet and/or frosty.
We were careful, however, and had a fabulous stay.
I would certainly recommend your retreat to my friends.
Thank you very much.
