About this property
Private Suites. Grand Spaces. One Unforgettable Escape.
Escape to 180 del Mar, a private four-bedroom retreat perched above Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast with sweeping 180° ocean views, lush jungle surroundings, spectacular sunsets, and brilliant starry skies. Set across three distinctive octagonal towers, the home offers exceptional space and privacy: four detached bedroom suites, each with a private terrace, view, generous closet, and en-suite bathroom. Three suites have king beds and one has a queen; a full-size futon and twin trundle are available upon request. Relax in the spacious indoor-outdoor living area, prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen, dine inside or on the veranda, and cool off in the ocean-facing pool. Comfortable furnishings, handcrafted woodwork, laundry facilities, and a powder room make longer stays easy. Located in a gated community for added privacy and security; a 4x4 vehicle is required. While 180 del Mar feels wonderfully secluded, it is conveniently close to national parks, a wide range of tours, beaches for strolling, swimming, and surfing, as well as grocery stores, gas stations, medical clinics, and banks. Nature surrounds the home, with frequent visits from tropical birds, monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife. Guests who enjoy walking can explore neighborhood routes ranging from leisurely strolls to more challenging hikes, and Poza Azul waterfall makes a refreshing stop at the bottom of the hill.

We stayed here a few years ago, and didn’t hesitate to stay here again. This is a fantastic place. Great communication from the host before and during our stay. With four separate en-suites, this is an ideal base for a group of friends or a larger family. So much space to spread out, and easy access to Dominical and Uvita.
We LOVED this beautiful VRBO. The space was ideal, there were beautiful birds and animals, the kitchen was great for cooking, and the host was kind and very responsive.
I had a group of 9 and stayed for two weeks. We had a wonderful time! House location is magical! Definitely is a drive up a pretty steep hill to get there so 4x4 is recommended but that seems to be the case with most of the homes in Dominical so nothing unusual. House layout was perfect for us. I loved the separate beds. I get up way before the kids so it was really nice to be able to make coffee and noise without worrying about waking the kiddos up. Elizabeth was the best host I think I’ve ever had! I kid you not as soon as I contacted her about anything within 5 minutes whatever I wanted was granted:) Truly the best! I’m definitely going to stay here again if I’m ever lucky enough to come back!
Great set up for our family of 8 with space for everyone. The pool was lovely as was the wildlife who stopped by for a visit. Very well-equipped kitchen with everything we needed. Easy to get to restaurants and Mama Toucans for food.
Our two families enjoyed every minute of our holiday here. It was like our own mini tropical resort in the rainforest. Toucans, capuchins, and all other manner of wildlife visited us daily. The hosts were wonderful and very communicative. Memories to last a lifetime!
The house was amazing as well as the property! We saw so much wildlife just from the patio. It was great for us to have our own separate rooms too. Elizabeth was the best!
Beautiful location! Really nice set up with privacy for all staying. Pool was lovely! Hosts were fantastic! Super quick to respond and help
A few too many bugs but all in all we would definitely return :)
We stayed here with two other couples for two weeks. Everything was as advertised and the hosts were extremely helpful in providing us information about the area and setting up some morning fishing trips! The layout of the place was perfect for couples. The drive up the mountain was a little steep but fine once you got used to it.

A beautiful view
We love visiting Domenical. This trip was no exception. The rental was a bit more remote which can make it a target for thieves. Be sure to lock up your rooms when you leave. We lost some cash and electronics while we were there which put a bit of a damper on the trip. Elizabeth was wonderful and supportive throughout.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. The unfortunate reality is that our haven in the jungle is experiencing what is happening everywhere, a rise in crime. Our property feels private but is in no way remote, there is an entire community around it.
We always wanted people to feel free and safe here, with some obvious precautions such as locking doors and keeping valuables out of sight. Sadly, this group learned the hard way that it is important to lock up your belongings because the consequences can ruin an otherwise beautiful vacation.
However with these negative experiences we have taken some more preventive measures to hopefully deter it from happening again. We have installed several cameras to monitor the major access points (WITHOUT compromising guests sense of privacy), a small safe and replaced all door locks (including the deadbolts).
We hope that future guests read all the other reviews that express how magically this spot was for their vacation and have returned time and time again.
We loved our stay! Very clean and inviting. The view and sounds were incredible! Plenty of room for everyone. The last day we had a couple of Howler monkeys hanging out with us by the pool - just amazing. Thank you so much for the memories, hope to be back!
Beautiful view, rooms were very comfortable and accommodating for all eight of us. We loved watching the sunset from the back porch. I grilled fresh fish caught that day on the outdoor grill and served it up on that big beautiful, round table in the kitchen area. My husband said he could live in that everyday, happily. We would love to return.
The hosts were helpful friendly and informative, the home was fabulous with lots of wildlife, and breathtaking sunsets, great for families and friends with a communal room and very private sleeping quarters.
Close to towns and restaurants, nearby beaches, and grocery store. This place had all the toys and utensils you would need. Rent an SUV, its a must
I have nothing but good things to say about this property! The location, the house , the view , the pool and the property manager are amazing. I definitely recommend this location if you want to completely disconnect and have your privacy. We will definitely comeback !
The hosts were great and we loved the open air floor plan. Hearing the howler monkeys was a bonus. Visitors should know this is a jungle home so there will be ants and in the rainy season, some humidity in the rooms. Definitely recommend a 4x4 to access the home.
I'm still smiling about our stay at this beautiful home. You are right in the rainforest in a gorgeous open air home (bedrooms have A/C). Views for hours of the wildlife, plants, flowers and of course, the ocean. The owners live nearby and are so responsive. They even helped us set up a chef to prepare dinner for us our first night there.
This was such a great way to experience Costa Rica and I would recommend it to anyone!

About the host
Hosted by Eduardo Avancini and Elizabeth Coffman
I’m Eduardo Avancini. My mom, Noemi, and I purchased this property in 2002, and I moved from Southampton, New York, to build our home in the hills of Escaleras. What began with warm water and good waves became a lasting home for my wife, Elizabeth and our children. As a carpenter, I designed and finished the house with my crew, giving every space a personal touch.
Why they chose this property
One of the things we love most about Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast is the way the rainforest meets the sea, with dramatic rock formations and wide, uncrowded beaches. It is a wonderful place to surf, snorkel, dive, fish, or simply enjoy the water. Because this area remains largely untouched by major resorts and development, we are often surrounded by monkeys, sloths, tropical birds, reptiles, and even the occasional wild cat. At 180 del Mar, we have preserved generous stretches of native jungle between neighboring homes so wildlife can continue to thrive—and our guests can enjoy the peace and privacy that make this place so special.
What makes this property unique
As with all homes in the hills, a steep drive up is required to reveal the gorgeous views. Our location is high enough to feel the temperature difference, peaceful sounds and constant breeze, but only short drive to the highway. Dominical is 10 minutes to the north, and Uvita less than 20 minutes to the south making it convenient for tours, groceries, restaurants. My family and I live in our own home a short distance below the rental on our 10 acer property. We are on hand to answer questions or address any issues in a matter of minutes. Our dog is a guest favorite, as most people miss their animals at home, he patrols and stops by for pets and love.
