About this property

Hobbit Hollow near Red River Gorge w/ Hot Tub

Nestled in a hill, surrounded by woodland, Hobbit Hollow is a one-of-a-kind getaway. The interior is beautifully crafted, comfortable and cosy. Though small, Hobbit Hollow has everything you need.

15 minutes away from Red River Gorge, this location offers access to rock climbing, hiking, swimming, canoeing, and the unforgettable beauty of the Gorge. Hobbit Hollow is only a 5-minute drive from the town of Stanton, providing amenities like grocery stores, places to eat, local shopping, and more.

Please note that the driveway up to the Hobbit House is steep and rugged. Two-wheel drive will make it up fine most of the time (except in inclement weather i.e. very heavy rain or snow and ice) but it is bumpy at the best of times. Take the driveway slow and steady until you see Elderberry cabin, and then give your car some speed to get it up the last stretch to the Hobbit House which is the steepest part.

Anniversary getaway
My husband and I stayed at this adorable hobbit hole for our anniversary weekend. Just 15 min minutes from Natural Bridge State park where we hiked and rode the sky lift. Was great to have a privste and cozy place of our own to come back to in the evening. My husband is a huge Lord of the Rings fan and I love anything unique so this fit the bill for both. It was very clean and had everything we needed.

Perfect size for two
I loved that it was setup just for the two of us. We had everything we needed! The road leading back to the house is gravel and there is a steep hill leading up to the house. Our equinox did fine but four wheel drive would have been preferred!

Great place but smelled like cat pee
Great place. Super cute, but the common area space smelled like cat pee and we cleaned up an area of cat pee on the hardwood floor near the bookcase.

Adorable cabin
This was the perfect little cabin. I even loved the selection of books! It was cozy and close to all the hiking I wanted to do. Their restaurant suggestions were great. I would also recommend Loma in Winchester, which was a little drive but amazing food. Rachel was great with communication. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Hobbit House
Loved the property. Remote location, which is what we were looking for. Thanks for letting us share your property for a few days.

Rachael and Simeon live in Stanton, KY with their daughter, Shola. Rachael is a potter by trade and Simeon is a carpenter. Together, they built Elderberry Cabin and Hobbit Hollow. They are both keen runners and enjoy the trails in the Red River Gorge along with the many swimming spots and beautiful views.

What makes this property unique

Hobbit Hollow is built into a hill like a true hobbit house from Tolkien's world. The green roof helps insulate the interior, reducing Hobbit Hollow's carbon footprint. Also, because it's built into the earth, Hobbit Hollow benefits from geothermal heating during the winter and cooling during the summer. We wanted this place to be as eco-friendly as possible, a home in the earth and for the earth.
