Amazing Family property

The jewel of the Flint Hills, but close to dining, etc.

This place is awesome for a family reunion. It provides privacy for all occupants, luxurious accommodations, and is meticulously maintained. Plus 250 acres of hiking are yours to enjoy for exercise, solitude, or just sightseeing. And it is only minutes away from several area restaurants. This was one of our Top 2 VRBO destinations that we have ever experienced!

Wonderful stay!

We stayed at this property over Labor Day weekend. It was fabulous. The house, pool area and surrounding land are just beautiful. We had more than enough space for everyone and the house is well stocked with all the essentials! Can’t wait to visit again!

Beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. The home was clean, communication was great and check-in was seamless. This house has everything in it you would want or need. Amazing property with a lot to see and do. We celebrated Easter as a family there and it was perfect for our group. Would highly recommend!

3yr old Birthday party

This property is great for family gatherings! Large kitchen with plenty of space. We used the bonus room for a 3yr old birthday party and it was perfect! Plenty of tables/chairs and just off the kitchen made it very convenient. The kids enjoyed the basketball court and walking trails. Looking forward to booking this property again when the weather is warm and pool is open. Beck was great and available to answer any questions. Thank You!

Our mom's surprise 80th birthday weekend!

GORGEOUS Retreat! We surprised our mom for her 80th birthday and her weekend could not have been better! Families from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio, California and Wisconsin spent the weekend swimming, touring the prairie, playing in the creek, fishing in the pond, playing pool, enjoying the peacefulness and cows and wildlife...just having a wonderful time together. With its proximity to Manhattan it was easy for those who could not stay overnight to come and go throughout the weekend. The house was beautiful, including a kitchen with everything we could possibly need! We turned the conference room into a dorm room for some of our younger generation and that worked perfectly! Kimberly was very helpful with any questions we had as we planned our surprise. Kail, the owner, was so friendly and informative as he drove us through his prairie trails! Four generations celebrating our mom/grandmom/great-grandmom together...we could not have chosen a better place!

We fell in love with the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie when we each came to Manhattan to attend K-State. Now, some 20 years later after graduating from KSU, we have made the Flint Hills our home - and Prairiewood our labor of love. Together with our 3 children, we enjoy the charm of Manhattan living, KSU sports, and the great outdoors of this special place.

Why they chose this property

The dream and vision for Prairiewood began over 10 years ago. It all started with a simple vision for saving some of the native tallgrass prairie landscape in and around Manhattan, Kansas. Along the way, we became more and more compelled by the idea of using the prairie to provide a place where the values of the land can find their way into the hearts and souls of its visitors–a place where the senses are awakened, perspective is renewed, and imagination is inspired. We have worked diligently over the past five years to bring together all the pieces for such a place. We have acquired land surrounded by native prairie ecology, created exquisite accommodations and meeting space, blazed miles of walking trails, and assembled a staff of tremendous individuals. Now, after officially opening in January of 2010, the next chapter of our story is just beginning...

Prairiewood is now a unique property set aside specifically as a prairie preserve to be used as a retreat facility. Whether an individual or couple seeking a place to rest and renew, a small group looking for a unique and inspiring place to meet, or a board-of-directors requiring a state-of-the-art meeting room, Prairiewood won't disappoint. From our first-class, carefully appointed accommodations to our world class guest service, everything at Prairiewood has been thoughtfully assembled to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

What makes this property unique

Praireiwood is very versatile. It is intentionally intimate, unusually private, and thoroughly welcoming. While just next to town, there is feeling of being a million miles away. The prairie has a subtle yet profound beauty that tends to calm our nerves and inspire our dreams. We always feel refreshed after spending time there, whether waking the trails or sipping coffee in the sun room. We take great pleasure in sharing this very special place which we so love.
