About this property
Beautiful Beach Eco-Cottage on Stocking Island
Kevalli House is situated on 11+ acres of oceanfront land on Stocking Island, the barrier island that forms Elizabeth Harbor. Because there are no motorized vehicles on the island and access is by boat only, much of the land on Stocking Island is pristine. This five mile long island contains only seven home sites of which Kevalli House is the furthest west.
A pavilion at the highest point on the property, 65 feet, offers a panoramic view of Elizabeth Harbor, the neighboring islands, and open waters of the ocean. Looking down on the beach directly behind Kevalli House, you can see a very rare stromatolite reef, thought to be one of the oldest forms of life on the planet and known to exist in just a few places in the world. At low tide they form beautiful natural soaking pools along the shore which can be quite a relaxing place to enjoy the crystal clear waters.
The Kevalli House guest cottage facility forms a nicely designed cluster of three buildings. The common area between the buildings is a sitting area which also adjoins the two identical wings, one on the east and one on the west. This layout is ideal for two couples, as it allows for privacy and offers ample space for everyone. Both wings offer several comfortable areas for sunning and reading. Each is designed for a comfortable extended stay, with a fully equipped kitchen, spacious bathroom, dining area, and sitting area. A separate bedroom area behind French doors has an adjustable queen bed and sliding glass door leading out to a private deck. *Occasionally we will rent the wings separately. Please contact us for availability and details.
The second-story covered deck above the sitting area overlooks the tree canopy and provides a tranquil place to catch island breezes and enjoy a beautiful vista of the harbor. A walkway on the front side of the cottage leads to the pavilion described earlier. Another path leads through natural foliage consisting of a wide variety of native plant species and finally to another covered deck overlooking the ocean side beach. On the very front of the property is a 200 foot long fixed dock which provides access to the cove. This protected body of water features two of the famous Bahamian blue holes. Mystery Cave is considered one of the best snorkeling spots in the area and is within snorkeling distance of the dock, or you may choose to use some of the kayaks that are available. Great snorkeling is also found "ocean-side". A floating dock provides access for small boats.
Kevalli House is a very eco-friendly choice. We are 99% solar-powered and meet our water needs by collecting rain water. We try to limit our impact on the environment as much as possible by using environmentally-friendly cleaning products, recycling, reusing, and reducing. Our paths are lit with solar-powered lights, fans and island breezes keep our rooms cool, and numerous windows catch evening breezes very effectively.
A 20 minute cab ride takes you from the airport to the government dock in George Town where the water taxi picks you up for the ride to Kevalli House. In George Town there are numerous businesses, including a well-stocked grocery store, car rental, boat rental, straw market, library, and a nice variety of restaurants. The Bahamas has over 300 sunny days a year, crystal clear warm water, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, one of which is right in the backyard of Kevalli House.

About the host
Hosted by Allison Cronin

Bob Cronin is the owner of Kevalli House. After retiring from an active business life and many years of the cruising life, Bob fell in love with the beautiful waters of Exuma and the extraordinary property he calls Kevalli House. Over the last 5 years Bob has been working to renovate and restore this unique property.
Why they chose this property
The Exuma Islands of the Bahamas have the most beautiful crystal, clear waters Bob has come across in all his travels. Exuma is a safe community and very welcoming to visitors. Stocking Island is pristine and remote, yet is conveniently located 1.5 miles from George Town, Great Exuma. Direct flights from Nassau, Florida (Miami and Fort Lauderdale), Atlanta, and Toronto make Great Exuma and Kevalli House very accessible.
What makes this property unique
Kevalli House has direct, private access to both Elizabeth Harbour and a beautiful, sandy 2.5 mile long beach. Views of the water and ocean breezes are found everywhere. Kevalli House was originally developed in the 1960s with sustainability in mind. The property is entirely off the grid, with solar and rain catchment systems. Native trees, amazing stonework, and the numerous hues of blue in the sky and waters provide a backdrop or peace and tranquility.
