This is Quail Run, so named because it sits in the path of a Quail covey that feeds in the main house’s garden. Built in 2019, it is perched above a garage and behind the main house, this peaceful haven, nestled in the center of the block, is located in the vibrant University Historic District with many amenities within only a 5 minute walk.

I have created the interior with reclaimed materials and décor that invokes a by gone era. From old wood panels from the late 1800’s with wallpaper from the 1920’s still clinging to them, to the unique sink I crafted from an old door and plumbing pipe. Beautiful light plays upon the 550 square foot loft, & pitched ceiling extends 17 feet high creating a light & expansive space. Huge double doors open onto a large deck where you may sit at the table with a bird’s eye view of the surroundings.
Pets allowed upon approval, sorry, no cats.
Parking is on the street, with a short walk to Quail Run: From 100 S, enter Douglas St, turn left onto the alley right after the garage on the left. At the end of the alley is Quail Run! Spiral stairway on left of garage takes you to the upper deck and front door.
Tenants in the main house use the garage for parking, but you are welcome to drive in back for unloading/loading, please alert them if you need to take more time. The turn onto the alley is tight so you will probably have to make a 2 or 3 point turn and there isn’t enough room to turn around at the garage so you will need to back out, just be slow and careful!

About the host
Hosted by Carol Koleman
I own four properties; two in Salt Lake City, Utah and two in New Orleans, Louisiana and have been a landlord for 20 years. I'm an animal advocate and at times have a stable of animals living with me, I am also a fine art photographer and published writer. I love to travel and have lived and traveled throughout 19 countries. I speak passable Italian but wouldn't be able to keep up a philosophical conversation in it, unless it regarded food...

Why they chose this property
Much love went into this unique space, built in 2019, it has all the features one needs to be comfortable, yet provides the feel of a bygone era. And if you are a couple, this is a perfect place for a romantic getaway in the middle of the city.
Quail Run sits in the middle of the block so it is set back from streets and the bustle of the city, high up with trees surrounding, it almost feels like you are in the woods (except for the condo next door, but you can ignore that...)

This is stand alone house above a garage, you have full access to the apartment but garage is for the house's use. There are shelves in the garage that you may use for storage. Parking is on the street, but you may drive up to the door to load/unload. There is not a yard but a nice big deck with table to enjoy the outdoors. Keypad entry.
There is high speed wifi (no T.V.), fully equipped kitchen, and comfortable furnishings. Hand soap, cleaning supplies, some shower essentials, towels and bedding are supplied for stays less than three months.
What makes this property unique
The studio was built from my vision of a 19th Century industrial space. I built the entire interior myself, from the tiled bathroom to plank floors and cupboards. My hand made features such as wood and pipe shelving, wood Murphy bed, barn door (made of leftover shiplap from exterior siding), vanity sink (old door left in the basement of the 1898 house), and more, make this space a unique and beautiful place to inhabit.
