About this property

Charming 18th-C Mas Near Roussillon & Gordes - Pool, A/C & Gorgeous Luberon View

L’Étoile is an authentic 18th-century Provençal farmhouse nestled among olive groves, lavender, and fruit trees, with gorgeous, sweeping views across the Luberon Valley.

Located between the hilltop villages of Gordes and Roussillon, L’Étoile offers the privacy of a country retreat while remaining just minutes from Provence’s celebrated markets, vineyards, restaurants, and some of France’s most beautiful villages.

The recently redesigned pool, gardens, and grounds are the heart of the experience. Spend long afternoons beside the swimming pool, prepare meals in the summer kitchen, play pétanque beneath the Provençal sky, wander fragrant gardens, or gather around the handcrafted stone fire pit as evening falls.

A fountain, illuminated pathways, lavender gardens, mature olive trees, and multiple outdoor living spaces create countless places to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the beauty of Provence.

Inside, the farmhouse retains its historic character with thick stone walls, exposed oak beams, terracotta floors, and original architectural details.

The fully equipped kitchen occupies the property’s original vaulted sheep barn, while the living room features an authentic stone fireplace perfect for cooler evenings.

Four comfortable bedrooms and generous gathering spaces make L’Étoile ideal for families and groups of friends.

Unlike many historic Provençal homes, L’Étoile is fully air-conditioned, providing cool, comfortable interiors throughout the summer while preserving the soul and character of the original farmhouse.

Whether you’re sharing long lunches beneath the pergola, watching hot-air balloons drift across the morning valley, or gathering around the fire beneath a sky full of stars, L’Étoile is a place to slow down, reconnect, and experience the timeless magic of Provence.

About the host

We love the Luberon and we love this charming old country house. It’s the perfect place for our vacations with friends and family. It’s perfectly situated between Gordes and Roussillon, so we have the best of both worlds—village life and markets within minutes, then back to the peace and quiet of the Luberon countryside.

We have four children of our own, and they love L’Étoile, so the house is perfect for families of all ages. Over the past few years we’ve completely redesigned the pool and gardens, added a pétanque court, fire pit, fountain, and summer kitchen, and installed air conditioning throughout. But at its heart, it’s still the same old Provençal farmhouse we fell in love with over 20 years ago—and that’s exactly the point.

Why they chose this property

First, the views are incredible.

We’ve been coming to this part of Provence for more than 20 years, and it has become a second home for our family. For us, this is the perfect location—between Gordes and Roussillon, two of the most beautiful hilltop villages in France.

Roussillon is just 4 minutes away and visible from almost every window in the house. We’re close enough to pick up our daily baguette and croissants each morning, yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside, hear the birds sing, and see thousands of stars at night.

One of our favorite moments is just after sunrise, when hot-air balloons drift silently across the Luberon Valley. We’ve never grown tired of watching them.

What makes this property unique

In the summertime, we spend almost the entire day outside.

The new pool is surrounded by olive trees, lavender, and roses, with sweeping views across the Luberon to Roussillon. It’s the view that made us fall in love with L’Étoile, and after twenty years we’ve never grown tired of it.

The gardens have recently been completely redesigned with a stone fountain, sunken fire pit, full-size pétanque court, lavender gardens, and a small orchard of figs, cherries, pears, apples, pomegranates, and white peaches. Guests are welcome to pick fruit whenever it’s in season. At night, the gardens are softly illuminated, creating a magical place to relax beneath the stars.

The fully equipped summer kitchen has become our favorite gathering place. We cook, eat, and linger around the pool without ever needing to carry food and dishes back to the main house.

Inside, L’Étoile is the real thing—an authentic 18th-century bergerie (sheepfold), not a modern villa built to look old. The main kitchen occupies the original vaulted sheep barn, while thick stone walls, exposed oak beams, terracotta floors, and an original stone fireplace preserve the character of the farmhouse.

Unlike many historic homes in Provence, L’Étoile is fully air-conditioned throughout, making it comfortable even during the hottest summer months.

During the day, we explore the famous Provençal markets, vineyards, and hilltop villages that surround us. There are more than a dozen wineries within 10 kilometers, wonderful antique shops nearby, and countless scenic drives through the Luberon.

One of our favorite hikes begins directly behind the house. In about ten minutes you’ll reach the top of the ridge overlooking Lioux and its spectacular limestone cliffs. The view from there is breathtaking.
