The Crazy Wave Suite is named for the fun wavey brick hearth that dominates the wall in the main living area, a design element that reflects the playful whimsy of the house! It once hosted a woodburning stove, but the stove was removed by former occupants. The space now has a very cool burl table serving as a focal point for the room.

Wait, What Am I Looking At?
Yeah, it’s kind of hard to get your mind around it. Visitors intuitively stare a bit, then inevitably walk 360 degrees around the perimeter to take it in. You'll probably spy someone passing by to stop and stare up!
The logic of the place invites curiosity. The layout is intimate and could seem small if not for the mindful intention of the diminished proportions. This is balanced by plentiful and tall windows that make the outside (and the changing light throughout the day) feel like part of the rooms. The natural materials invite every surface to be touched and enjoyed. The rooflines can challenge the eye, and their natural movement inspires contemplation and makes the small footprint feel spacious. The playful chimneys give the home a sense of not taking itself too seriously (it doesn't). The vertical orientation, strange outdoor staircase, and prominent rooftop deck balance the comfort of the interiors by stretching residents a bit out of their comfort zones, displacing both eye body with new visual and spatial experiences. The house looks delightfully unique from itself from every angle and almost like it shouldn't be allowed.
Ok, that’s poetic and all, but tell me about this place! There are three separate units in the house, each with its own external entrance: the first floor apartment, the second floor apartment, and the studio bedroom in the tower. We rent out all three units and as owners, frequently visit whichever one is open to stay in ourselves. Don't worry, we'll give you your privacy!
Bet sure to climb to the Skydeck in the morning and take a photo of your shadow standing on top of the house as projected below!
Easily accessible from highway 101.
Neighborhood access is primarily by car and there is little foot traffic.
There are Zipcars available in the area (not walkable from the house), as well as Lyft and Uber services.
There is a fast electrical vehicle (EV) charger in downtown Arcata near the central plaza.
If you needed to walk to the airport, you could!
Park in the driveway or on Silverado street (Parking in front of the house is reserved for guests staying on the first floor). There is ample street parking for vehicles that don't fit in the driveway.
Please be quiet in the driveway as it is located near the first floor bedroom.

This place is wonderful! Super nice quiet neighborhood, close to shopping and restaurants and best of all... you can hear the ocean and on clear days at the top of the house you can see the beautiful Pacific. Will be booking here again!
The place was very clean, comfy, and quiet! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals there. The bed was very comfortable. The backyard and skydeck were great for relaxing. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, and the hosts were very responsive to any questions we had. We would definitely come back!
Loved doing yoga on the roof deck in the morning. Insanely comfortable bed. Lovely lovely place. My friend lives .5mile away with her young family so it really was all around a wonderful little vacation. There is a washing machine and dryer!

Love this place
We’ve stayed in downstairs unit and our daughter stayed upstairs. Upstairs seems a bit larger with a better bathroom regarding storage.
Next time we’ll stay upstairs!
Love this house!

We had a fun stay. The property owners are very communicative. It is definitely quirky, but it is very comfortable and has everything you could need for a short stay. We brought our dog and were able to easily walk the neighborhood. The bed was comfortable. Easy check-in and checkout.
We had a wonderful time. The unit was spotless clean and had everything we needed. Cozy. Stairs were a bit slippery when wet. But we had a great stay. Thank you
We really enjoyed our stay at the Sky Deck. We were visiting family over the holidays and found the rental to be very clean, cozy and welcoming as well as very simple and uniquely furnished. The artistic touches were fun and the sky deck was a nice feature.
Interesting architecture. Very nice for a three night stay. The kitchen is very functional. The bed is comfortable. The hardwood floors and wood doors and trim are handsome.

Good location to access Redwoods NP
As advertised in presentation but amenities were a little lacking. Checkin delayed a little as still being cleaned. House clean but not fully set up. Gave feedback to owners but never heard back. Not a lot of options for a couple looking for a place to stay while visiting Redwoods NP and this fit the bill. Good location to access the park and close to town to get supplies and go out. Comfy bed! It is a nice option that if you had multiple couples you could rent the different levels. We were the only ones there for our stay and did enjoy it.
I was hesitant to post a bad review but in the interest of future guests I felt it important to do so. I am also a Vrbo owner with all exceptional ratings for 12 years so feel responsible about reporting an exceptionally poor experience. This place is dirty, run down and neglected. My first night the toilet didn’t flush. I had to lift the back lid to flush it and turn the water off to stop it running. The shower curtain was covered in black mold and silverfish were running around in the drawers. The carpet in the bedroom was filthy. Disgusting. There was only one drinking glass, no other mugs or glasses. I bought an extra mug and glass. I was in the second floor unit and the stairs up were overgrown with vines and in very poor repair. The owner was rude about the toilet fix and didn’t respond regarding the silverfish or mold except to tell me I should leave “since you are dissatisfied”. She offered a refund but at that late date there was no place else to go in that area. She sent 2 people to fix the toilet which required me to stay for a partial day of my trip. Then she asked me if I had reviewed all the issues with the fix it people who she later told me were her property managers (?). I told her it was not my responsibility to do this on her behalf and also had no clue they were her property managers. She said “I understand” but didn’t apologize for the issues or provide a partial refund which I asked for. Very disappointing and negative experience!

It's a deeply personal thing to share my home with travelers! I place heart and hand into SkyDeck House for the have-dog-will-travel explorer, who loves mud on shoes and long hot showers, who seeks Humboldt's artistry, quirk, and the wild edges of things, who enjoys the deep breath and bone tiredness of an imperfect life well lived, who kisses their dog before bed, and who, after a day of full-spectrum adventure, sinks into the embrace of homey comforts. If you are one of the old souls far too young for your age, you know who you are, welcome home to SkyDeck House!
In hosting and life I value kindness, curiosity, delight, and the elegant solution. In word and action, this Guest displayed little interest in such things, and did not allow my in-person care team to verify or provide help for any but one concern. So we were a poor match, and as I will not be bullied, neither of us were satisfied with the stay. Rare, but very well.
Meanwhile, the sunset looks great from the SkyDeck! <3
Property was beautiful, bed/bedding super comfy with goose down comforters, kitchen fully functional so we were able to prepare nice home cooked meals, conveniently located near a couple of grocery stores as well as the Redwood National Forest and quite a few beaches. Great space, super clean, spacious and comfortable, highly recommend!!!😁

Thanks Janice! Please come back sometime, we'll keep working on the awesomeness here at SkyDeck and you can never visit Humboldt County enough times :-)
This was a charming little house. We enjoyed our stay. But be aware that there is no TV. There is a monitor that is not connected to anything, and there is no remote control to turn it on.
We loved our stay in the crazy wave suite. Almost everything you need is provided for you. The bed was crazy comfortable I need that bed! We got to see such much of the air show from the sky deck it was awesome. Great water pressure and lots of hot water in the shower. My only recommendation would be to add black out curtains at the kitchen windows it get really bright in the afternoons and quite warm. Book it, you won’t regret it. We were here for our 40th Wedding anniversary.

Thanks for staying with us Lillian! I'm totally jealous you got to see the air show, it's something we haven't done yet! Perfect timing for you!
My wife and I spent four nights here while visiting our daughter at Cal Poly Humboldt. It felt like a home away from home and we really enjoyed our time in this cool, comfortable, and funky space. We will definitely look to stay here again when we come back.
In the neighborhood that the house is in, you do feel like you're in a castle on the hill and that everyone is looking at you. We didn't mind this, but I could see how some might.
It was foggy and chilly for our entire stay, so we didn't make much use of the deck, but it would be a great place to relax on a warm day (though it could use some comfortable chairs up there, perhaps).
No major complaints, but a couple of suggestions for the owners: Another lamp in the main living area would be nice. The little table lamp and the overhead lights provide two extreme lighting choices - very dim or very bright. A second lamp could make it just right. The space could also use more seating. When my daughter was over visiting, two of us sat on the lounge chairs, and the third person (usually me) was relegated to a hard dining room table chair. Not ideal.
