Cool apartment in the jungle!

The place was clean, outdoor garden and massage pool beautiful. There is an outdoor kitchen and dining table between the two bedrooms. Great for playing games or having a glass of wine. Very peaceful and charming. Beds are very comfortable. Staying in a unique jungle place was an experience and I can now check off my bucket list. I am still thinking about going back and staying a month in this peaceful serene apartment. The outdoor kitchen and dining area is great for playing games. Short distance from Belize

Disliked: Cleanliness, communication, location, listing accuracy
Buena vista is about 30 minutes from bacalar town so not an ideal location. The house is remote and in the jungle , very rough terrain getting in there Read all the small print , the house is only enclosed from the elements in the 2 bedrooms , the rest ( which is essentially just a tiny outdoor kitchen , no living room at all ) is totally open to the elements and the MOSQUITOES!!! We arrived to check in and were eaten alive in 5 minutes. There were also many wasps , a few in the bedroom. We left and never even spent the night. We did not want to have to be confined to bedrooms for our entire stay. The host has not offered any compensation so beware !

Hello Taryn, all the information about the property is clearly described in the listing, specifically that the house have an outdoor kitchen. It seems you may have misread the property details, which is why you were surprised upon arrival. Yes, during the rainy season, mosquitoes are present in the garden - unfortunately, that’s something beyond our control. However, the outdoor kitchen is equipped with mosquito nets that guests can close to protect themselves. Your reservation was for one night, during which you arrived in the afternoon and were scheduled to check out the next morning. Therefore, it wouldn’t be expected that you’d spend much time inside the house, based on our experience, guests usually spend most of their time by the Bacalar Lagoon. For longer stays, yes, some guests do spend time relaxing by the garden pool as well and most of them are happy for such a private property. I recommend that you research the area, the property details, and the season you’re traveling in more carefully next time, so you won’t be surprised by these kinds of inconveniences again.
