The space

There’s plenty to explore without even leaving the property, with private walking and snowshoe trails winding through the woods. Venture a little further and you’ll find endless opportunities for adventure in every season — from skiing and snowboarding to snowmobiling, hiking, biking and exploring the Canadian Rockies.

After a day in the mountains, come home to your own private lodge in the woods. Soak under the stars in our exceptional 8-person Beachcomber hot tub, challenge the family to a game of pool, warm up by the fire, or simply settle in and enjoy the peace, space and mountain views.

A perfect base for year-round adventure

In winter, spend your days skiing or riding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, less than 30 minutes away, or head out snowmobiling — the renowned Quartz Creek riding area is around 30 minutes away, with plenty more options throughout the surrounding mountains.

You can also step straight outside the lodge to explore our own snowy woodland trails. Then come home, sink into the hot tub beneath a star-filled sky, warm up by the fire and settle in for a cozy evening together. You don’t need to ski or sled every day to experience winter here — sometimes the best days are simply spent enjoying the snow, the silence and having your own little piece of the mountains to yourselves.

In summer, the surrounding mountains become a playground for hiking, biking, rafting, paddling and exploring the six nearby national parks — or simply slow down, enjoy the wildlife and soak up the peace of the Blaeberry Valley.

Whether you come for the adventures or simply to escape somewhere beautiful with the people you love, The Lazy Elk is more than somewhere to sleep at the end of the day — it’s part of the experience.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire lodge including an attached private garage for one car and another outdoor covered space under a pole-barn for 2 more vehicles. The driveway also has plenty of space for additional cars. The lodge is nestled in the Blaeberry valley, 15 minutes from town, so travel by car is essential.

My group of 6 adults used this as our base in the Canadian Rockies as we visited Yoho, Kootenay, Banff and Jasper National Parks in one trip (yes, it’s a bit of driving to hit all those places, but that didn’t bother us). Place was great…. clean and comfortable. Hot tub felt good after a long day of hiking, etc. Great stargazing on the deck as well. Charlie and Andy fantastic hosts too. Would definitely book it again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home and property are absolutely beautiful. The pictures really don’t do it justice. Everything was very well maintained and super clean. It was also fully stocked with everything we needed and had so many thoughtful amenities, including a welcome gift. The hot tub and pool table were awesome. The owners were so gracious and helpful when we had any questions during our stay. Great location for outdoor activities and nearby fishing. We can’t say enough good things about this place and will definitely return.

My family and I (3 couples and a 5 year old) stayed for our vacation. Prior to arrival I had a check in message from the host couple with all details. Upon arrival we had a thoughtful welcome gift packed with a few local goodies. The house is packed with convenient smart home features if you choose to utilize them; if not it won’t affect your stay! The deck had a hot tub and living room had a huge window; both with a beautiful view of the mountains. In the living room there is a chest of board & card games for all walks of life (Crazy 8s, Scrabble, etc). The kitchen was clean and stocked with fun gadgets like a French press! They had an artistic book for guests to draw/color which was fun to see! The bedrooms are clean with their own thermostat, comfortable bed & extra pillows! The downstairs had a pool table and TV, where we spent a lot of our time hanging out. you could see from the living room. The bathrooms were very clean and even had a little basket of things you may have forgotten. Our host/hostess were extremely responsive to our messages and even warned us of a bear that was on the outskirts of the property. There helpful info cards throughout the house, such as how to use the fireplace. The check in and check out process was smooth and simple; it felt more like tidying your own home vs a list of chores. There are so many wonderful things about the home to list! The biggest complaint we had were the mosquitoes outside but the hosts had bug thermacells throughout!!

Very Large Lodge in Good Location

Very Clean, Quiet Area, Very Nice Hot Tub, All Amenities are very nice as well as the Alexa Controlled features. We will be booking again. It’s big enough that when just 4 of us stayed there that we could probably go a few hours without seeing anyone! Haha

Wow 10/10 Beyond our expectations!

This was the perfect property! The location from Golden is fantastic, and it is close to multiple local attractions. We had a hard time leaving to explore Golden as we loved the property that much! The house was beyond spacious and clean, so many activities and amenities provided, and it the lovely hosts were so easy to communicate with! We came for a girls weekend of hiking and hanging out in a hot tub, it was perfect for that. I would happily bring my whole family here as it is great for all ages. Thank you for an awesome weekend!

This was by far the most impressive accommodation we've ever stayed in. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure our stay was incredible- they organised a Christmas tree in the cabin and even had decorations for us to put on the tree, once they learned this was a tradition we'd be missing away from home. They included a personalised gift for each of our children too. The kitchen was well stocked and everything worked like clockwork - I really appreciate the efficiency of a well run home in particular. The hosts were friendly and available to respond to our questions and address issues such as the fire stove not working at one point. Anything we raised was addressed immediately. I could not have asked for a better experience. My family and I will definitely return - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cabin to everyone. An absolute gem! Exceptional hospitality and a brilliant property - you will never find anything as good as The Lazy Elk. Fantastic location - Golden is a gateway to explore the Rockies.

Fabulous cabin!

We had an amazing stay at the Lazy Elk! My only complaint is that I never saw an elk :), but the cabin was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and perfect for our family. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was outstanding, and we had everything that we needed. My adult kids especially enjoyed the brand new hot tub. We were able to visit Banff, Yoho, and Glacier National Parks easily from this location. If you are looking for a touristy town, then Golden may not be the place for you, but we enjoyed the small town feel. AND, we got fabulous bread (thanks to our hosts' recommendation) at a bakery/coffee shop called Ethos. We would definitely stay there again, and I highly recommend the Lazy Elk!

A Precious Haven at Lazy Elk Cabin

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Lazy Elk Cabin through VRBO, and we couldn't be more delighted with our experience. This charming cabin provided everything we needed and more for a truly memorable getaway. The cabin itself was not only aesthetically pleasing but also thoughtfully equipped with all the amenities one could wish for. It was a precious haven that allowed us to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life while simultaneously reconnecting as a family. The cozy atmosphere and well-designed layout contributed to a sense of comfort and relaxation throughout our stay. A highlight of our visit was the warm welcome we received from the hosts. They greeted us with a delightful welcome kit that added a personal touch to our arrival. These thoughtful gestures truly made a difference and set the tone for a fantastic stay. In summary, our time at Lazy Elk Cabin has been the best stay for us thus far. We highly recommend this cabin to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat with all the comforts of home. A heartfelt thank you to the hosts for creating such a special and memorable experience for our family. Gerry & Olga

I have traveled a lot and stayed at many places, but I've never experienced hospitality as excellent as that from Andy and Charlie! Not only did they leave us a kitchen full of homemade goodies and souvenirs, but they added in small, little touches all throughout the home too!A basket in the kitchen complete with bug sprays, bear spray, mosquito repellents, maps, restaurant suggestions, etc. And a basket in each bathroom with multiple types of shaving creams, sewing kits, sanitary items, etc. There were notes everywhere explaining how to use Alexa (who my teen boys thought was hilarious to get stuck on fart songs), how to use the hot tub, how to wash the towels....I didn't have to ask them a single question because they'd thought of it all! This was so refreshing!Now...the home itself is spectacular! I can't even begin to describe the character. It's in every nook and cranny. My musically talented kids absolutely loved the guitar, ukulele, and piano and kept us entertained each night. There is a view of the ginormous mountain from every room! One evening we had a huge double rainbow above the mountain while we were sitting in the hot tub. I mean, you can't get anything better than that.It was a very quick drive into Golden and even faster to the Skywalk. We stayed 4 days in Golden and then headed over to Banff. We all agreed that we wish we'd just extended our stay the entire time at Lazy Elk. Plenty of space, beautiful view, every amenity....book it today!

About the host

Hosted by Andrew & Charlotte Coleman

Host profile image
Hi I'm Charlotte but please do call me Charlie!

My husband Andy and I have moved from the UK to the beautiful town of Golden in BC Canada to surround ourselves with nature and to live a life full of adventure.

We have been lucky enough to travel to so many exciting corners of the world and airbnb was always our first choice. Our airbnb hosts and the places we have stayed have provided us with lasting memories.

Now we have the opportunity to host and we couldn't be more excited. We host the Lodge @ The Lazy Elk a spacious log frame home from home cabin in the Canadian Rockies.

We do live on the property in a small eco home we built with our very own hands in Summer 2020 based on Passive Haus principles. We would love the chance to show off our build and talk through the Passive Haus credentials if you are interested (I'm sure we could fit a beer in there too!).

Why they chose this property

The lodge @ the Lazy Elk offers luxury, relaxation, comfort, privacy, space & world-class mountain views that you can enjoy from your own hot tub. Located in the middle of 6 national parks in BC, Canada - it's the ideal hub for all kinds of activities, or the perfect place to just come and relax.

What makes this property unique

We are one of the few larger properties in the area with its own private acreage, with unobstructed Rocky mountain views from the hot tub and living space. A real sense of privacy and of course luxury.
