Beautiful setting in a wildlife reserve. Very quiet & peaceful. Deer everywhere. Lots of trails. House was clean & well organized. Approximately 15-20 mins to Salem for groceries, but there was a gas station/ convenience store about 5 miles away.
We love this place. Second stay for a family reunion in the area. Perfect for our peeps, outdoor activities, hiking, biking, and close to shopping. Host is pleasant. Place is clean. Great stay.
Enjoyed the rural vibe of our stay. The place was well stocked with kitchen ware and overall very comfortable. We saw several deer early in the morning and at dusk.
Great Host, very kind and responsive. This was a nice comfortable location, well maintained, full kitchen and a great patio area for enjoying the beautiful property. This was a perfect base to hit the triple crown hiking and close enough quickly get to Roanoke for some fun in the city. Highly Recommend!
In town for a Senior Softball tourney in Roanoke and Salem. Turned out to be a great place to unwind after long days in the heat. Would stay here again.
Our family had a fantastic stay in Emily’s home. It was very clean and spacious. We loved drinking coffee on the large back deck and watching the deer walk by. It’s walking distance to several trails and a short drive to others. We have family in the area and hope to stay here again next time we’re visiting.
Great space for our group to ride…trail entrance is right next to house! We had good WiFi on our weekend. We’d stay here again for sure on another Roanoke trip.
Our all seniors family stayed a long weekend to attend a family reunion in Salem. It was a great place for us. Quiet, beautiful, lots of deer, hiking trails, all in proximity to where mom grew up. Host Emily was great and place was awesome!!
the place was awesome
Lovely home tucked away in the woods. We saw at least 30 deer on the way to the house. Beautiful outdoor space. The screened in porch was nice. Every room, including the bunk beds, had comfortable mattresses. I slept very well here. There is no cell service and the WiFi did not work. Just know that upfront. That did not bother us one bit; it was kind of nice to disconnect. There were DVDs and board games which was nice. Next time I’d like to spend more time at the house. We were here for a speed skating meet so we were out the door at 5/6am each morning and back home for some dinner, a shower, and sleep. I would love to stay here next year for the 2027 Blue Ridge Challenge.
We had an amazing 3 night stay. Our plan was to ride Carvins Cove each day and we couldn't have picked a better base camp for our adventures. The house is very comfortable with everything you need in terms of cooking and relaxing. The proximity to Carvins Cove is perfect for all things outdoors.
Emily is a wonderful host, answering lots of questions before our stay. The home was clean and well provisioned, in a wonderful neighborhood. A wide variety of hiking trails are less than a 5 minute walk from the front door. Plan on unplugging and enjoying nature, including the visiting deer families.
House was just as described on the listing. Very clean and cute. Great way to disconnect with limited access to the phone!
My family loved the quiet and close location to Carvins Cove. Great hiking trails and probably the most deer I have seen at one time in the field in front of the house at dusk - easily 30+
My family and I loved our stay!
Excellent location, quiet and private. Exactly what we were looking for. Even found hiking trails right out of the backyard. Didn’t want to leave. House had plenty of room. Kitchen was fully equipped. Spent lots of time on the patio out back!
Great house to stay at if your looking for some outdoor adventures. Amazing hiking and mountian biking trails all within very close proximity to the house. As noted: cell service is pretty much nonexistent, there is sometimes enough of wifi signal to send messages as needed. Would highly recommend for any outdoor enthusiasts.
This property was great for my family, with plenty of room to spread out inside, as well as a lovely back porch with built in seating. My husband and I went out each morning with our coffee and admired the deer. I strongly caution anyone driving in the neghborhood to keep it to a slow crawl because the beautiful deer are everywhere. The house has a warm vibe and beautiful artwork, as well as everything you might need in the kitchen.
My wife & I spent a week at this property to hike in Carvins Cove & the surrounding mountains. We loved the quiet, secluded location with hiking (& mountain biking / horse) trails right at the end of the driveway. Access points to the AT, grocery stores, restaurants & downtown Roanoke are all nearby. While this is an older home, it is comfortably furnished & everything worked well. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. The owner (Emily) was very helpful & always responsive to our inquires. Cell service is spotty, but the Wi-Fi worked well. It would have been nice to have a functional fireplace for our winter visit, but other than that, the house was perfect for us.

Liked: Cleanliness, location
The location is lovely! The hose is very nice, I was using it for a retreat and it's really more of a family house, but the location is really wonderful, quite and prettyThe communication was not thorough. Apparently there is a no-smoking policy on the property, which I did not see in any of the owner's communication. The stay was for two nights, but the check in was so late (4:00) that we really could not get much time in on the first night, and check out was so early (10:00) we did not really have any time the last day for anything but breakfast and clean up. We really only got one day. Still, it was a lovely stay in a beautiful area in a comfy house.

Under the house booking page and information there is clearly a no-smoking policy for the property. Even if this was not clear for you in the house rules, you should not have presumed that it was acceptable to smoke in and around a property that is not your own. I will be sure to add this policy in duplicate form should anyone else be confused in the future.
Additionally, I routinely allow guests to have early check-in and late checkouts should they ask. You did not ask for either. The 10am-4pm window between checkout and check-in is allocated so that I have time to turn the house over and address any problems if needed… which in your case I did, given that you smoked in my house and used my porch and yard as your ashtrays.
We were a group of 60+ year old men and women. The guys were hiking on the trails in the area and the ladies were hanging out. The house was spacious enough for all of us. The natural beauty of the area was very nice. There were many deer and birds and a few lizards to watch. We got lucky with the weather, every day was beautiful. They have games to play and some books if we did have a rainy day. No TV and minimal phone service so if than matters to you, maybe look elsewhere. We loved it. defiantly recommend it .
This was our second time staying and everything was perfect. Communication with the host was great. There were plenty of starter supplies. Beds were comfy and the kitchen is well equipped for making meals. Location is excellent to enjoy nearby hiking trails.
