About this property

Dogs Love The Tack Room Cottage in Camden SC Horse Country

Does 5 acres of fenced land make you happy after a long drive with your favorite sidekick - your dog? The Tack Room, was relocated on the property in 2/2023 and is now (7/2026) enlarged, renovated and furnished. It was a lonesome building now seeing a new life as a charming guest house.

Relocated to the center of the grounds, access now features a circular drive perfect for smaller horse trailers and easy access to Tombfield Road in Boykin SC. Nestled in the middle of horse country, it is a pretty drive into Camden, only 10 minutes away. In June 2023, we built 3 ponds which are fully mature and provide training or exercise areas for your dogs.

2 dogs are appropriate in the house. Medium sized crates are provided for temporary use, and please, no dogs on furniture. The circular drive is compatible with larger rigs. It is fully fenced.

Thie Tack Room cottage has a large front wrap around porch overooking the ponds. Cuisinart grill and pizza oven are installed. Rocking chairs and green striped canvas awning provides shade. The cottage is far from the main house at rear of the 5 acre property.

A stylish and functional efficiency kitchen features an induction cooktop, full refrigerator, large microwave and sink. A chic glassed bathroom with shower and tub has a decorative art glass sink.

This charming barn-board sided cottage has a full bar with ice maker and sink, a spacious twin bedded master bedroom, a large living room with vaulted ceiling and fireplace and wall mounted television. A breakfast nook is adjacent the kitchen and a large stacked washer/dryer provides convenience to freshen up your wardrobe.

Internet and a television provide communication and entertainment. Sleeper sofa in living room for extra guest. Arrangements may be made for children's sleeping cots ...or pitch a pup tent on the deck for extra space! The cottage is climate controlled with a full system.

2 friendly dogs are welcome ( more by special arrangement). We provide one crate for a medium sized pooch. Emergency dog provisions are in the refrigerator!

We love our pull down bamboo shades and the sound of the frogs at night.

About the host

Hosted by Hugh and Mary Palmer Dargan, owners, live in the Big House at the drive entry.

Host profile image
Hi! Hugh and I love our county home, " Woodcote", which is located just north of historic Boykin SC and 10 minutes south of Camden SC. Married for 45 years, we are landscape architects by training. Hugh is a native SC and I'm from TN. We happen to LOVE Boykin Spaniels and have two that we compete in hunt test and field trials both upland and retriever. We love pre-revolutionary architecture. Altho your cottage, The Tack Room isn't 18th century, it has loads of charm!

We live in the lovely home at the front of the property with amazing ornamental gardens and green board fencing. The Tack Room is separately fenced on 3.5 acres has a circular drive with , both electric and manual gate.

Why they chose this property

When we travel, exercising our dogs in between training sessions or just to "stretch leg" is critical. We know you KNOW HOW RARE it is to find a place that is secure and friendly. We are fully fenced.

The Tack Room is designed just for a layover with all the comforts of home for you and your pet. What with 5 acres and gates at the drive - what could be better!

What makes this property unique

The Tack Room is all the better for its authenticity. The barn board interior and vaulted ceiling present an airy, but cozy space for relaxing. We kept the original snaffle bits and harness holders as decorations.

Outdoor living is par for the course, so we encourage grilling and rocking chair visits on the porch overlooking the technical training ponds. Know that while we don't want you to ever leave your pooch unattended in the cottage, we understand you might need emergency food or help in some way. Camden has amazing local vet hospitals and we are quite close to Columbia SC, with its 24 hr vet clinics. This is a dog lover's paradise!
