Great beautiful location with a lot of room inside and outside Very convenient to many locations but far from the crowds. Loved it and the host was amazing and helpful
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sea Captains Cottage! The inside has been beautifully decorated and maintains the historic charm of the house and the view from the back patio is a showstopper! The house offers various spaces to suit everyone's needs - quiet nooks to read, a living room with comfy couches to watch TV, the room off the kitchen was great for side conversations and morning coffee with a view and the dining room was perfect for our family dinners. And the Surry location was convenient for our day trips to both Acadia and Castine.
Our entire family enjoyed staying at the cottage very much!we had everything we needed and plenty of options to suit everyone. Our resident eagle was the hit of our stay as we enjoyed the outstanding view from the wonderful deck. Very comfortable and homey! The noise from the road was a problem at first, but easily solved with ear plugs.Thank you for a lovely stay.
The house and backyard view of the Autumn colors was beautiful. There was a little mom and pop store across the street, convenient for small forgotten items. The beds were comfortable and the fan made for good white noise, as the road in front of the house could get a little noisy. However, there seemed to be less traffic through the night or I just slept like a baby and did not hear it.There was a lady bug issue in a few of the rooms, but an exterminator came and sprayed around the foundation of the house one morning, so clearly the property manager is aware and the ladybugs did not interrupt our stay at all. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you for allowing us some memorable family time : )
We had a short three day stay in Surry and fell in love with the house. It is a bit of the drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park but we didn’t mind it one bit. The convenience of the location and having a small store across the street really made for a stress free stay. Great back deck made for unforgettable conversations and few beverages to help take in all of the beautiful views full of eagles, osprey, ducks, geese and numerous other wildlife. Don’t be afraid to stay here. It’s worth every penny.
Exactly as noted in the details! All the room and amenities indoors for a family vacation plus a beautiful backyard with deck that the entire family enjoyed. Watching the birds and tides along the waterside was a highlight of every day for us.
Overall the house is very charming. The decor and rooms are so cozy, and the beds were super comfortable. The amenities and overall experience were very thoughtful. If this house was on a quieter road, no question would I give it 5 stars. I know in the listing it notes it’s on a relatively busy road with occasional traffic noise, however, I don’t think that is very accurate. The road is on a main highway that has a slowdown for 35 miles in a small town. Lots of semi trucks, pickup trucks, motorcycles gunning it as the speed limit changes near the house. The house is from 1880 (sign out front) and situated a few feet from a VERY busy road and has very old windows and thin walls. The noise is virtually the same inside the house as it is outside. There is a tobacco shop across the street so lots of loud noise added in the evenings. The bedrooms all are directly facing the busy road so the noise makes it almost impossible to sleep. We are not light sleepers but with a fan and sound machine, we laid awake all 3 nights (we left a day early because we were that exhausted). My best advice is bring earplugs and do not book this if you have small children. Ours woke up 3x a night and struggled to fall asleep. All of this to say, the host was INCREDIBLY accommodating. She offered to refund us if we wanted to move. Unfortunately we couldn’t find another place to fit our group in short notice so we decided to change our flight and go home. She was super responsive and warm.
