Ocean-Beach Front Cottage on Blue Hill Bay w/ Mt Desert Island on the Horizon...
This is a well-updated yet classic Maine cottage at the ocean's edge perfectly situated between Acadia/Bar Harbor, the Blue Hill/Penobscot Peninsula, Ellsworth and Deer Isle/Stonington. Camden is but an easy daytrip, and Eastport/Lubec and Campabella Island aren't too far either! The beachfront is excellent with over 200 feet of private sand and rocks (note that a deep water mooring may be available if you inquire). There is also a shared canoe, paddle boards and inflatable kayak. Located in the rural town of Surry, yet with amenities and attractions close at hand, cell phone reception good and cableTV with fast internet at your disposal. The home embodies the classic coastal cottage look and feel, but has a newly updated kitchen, bathrooms, gas fireplace and wraparound deck. It's the best of both worlds.
An open living/dining area overlooks a large stone gas fireplace to one side, with plate glass windows capturing the views over the bay, as well as doorway opening to stunning and truly special wrap-around, covered porch where you will want to dine in the evenings after cooking lobsters and steamer clams in the well appointed and newly renovated kitchen, with added sitting area just off to the side with media nook, and half bath and laundry.
There is a main level master bedroom and full bath, as well as 3 additional bedrooms and 3/4 bath on the second floor. For those looking for an old-style, oceanfront Maine Cottage with a convenient location to enjoy the amenities of both the Acadia-Bar Harbor and the Blue Hill region, this is one of the best examples in all of Downeast Maine.
Note that a deep water mooring may be made available if desired. Also the sleeping arrangements are most appropriate for up to seven adults, but can accommodate 8-9 inclusive of kids using the fold out futon bed if indicated.

Our stay was wonderful and comfortable October 25, 2023 A group of friends stayed at this property the third weekend of October. This is a four bedroom house right on the ocean, literally 20 ft from the bay waters. The directions and the check-in process we’re very organized. The property was clean. There are four bedrooms in this property. A few repairs were being done previous to our stay but that did not affect our stay at all. Tremendous wildlife was seen from the front porch from which we spent a lot of time. This property is close to the very charming town of Ellsworth, and a little over 20 mi from Bar Harbor. Our entire party gave the property five stars and would stay here again in a heartbeat. A couple of notes, I rented a very large vehicle to accommodate for people in our luggage, and that was a bit interesting getting into the property with that large vehicle as Stagecoach Lane is very narrow with some tight turns. Also note is that the House has no central heater air, the beautiful gas fireplace in the living room warmed that room nicely and there are some space heaters. Our stay was wonderful and comfortable and I highly recommend this property.
Surry cottage October 17, 2021 Loved the front porch overlooking the bay. Great location. The house was clean and had everything we need to make for a comfortable stay.
Beautiful waterfront stay October 5, 2021 Wonderful Maine cottage right on on the water! Our stay was cozy and comfortable. Amenities were great including a gas log fireplace! Only difficulty was having to pack out our own garbage, but found a place right in Ellsworth to drop it off for a negligible fee. Will come again!
Peaceful and relaxing October 2, 2021 We enjoyed coffee and cocktails on the front porch watching the seals fishing, a very peaceful and relaxing setting. The drive-in was a little scary, especially at night. It is a dirt road that narrows and twists into the woods… Until you emerge to the open, yet secluded seaside cottage. Lots of room, updated kitchen. Upstairs beds are ok… But, we very much enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay again.
The location of this property is outstanding the view BREATHTAKING!! June 27, 2021 The house was as pictured it was clean but the floors turned socks and feet black we mopped the floor and had no other issues. Very limited towels we bought some at Walmart so everyone had at least 1 towel each. Stunning Location
August 4, 2020 Beautiful house. Stunning location. Plenty of room to spread out. Lots of local lobster to be eaten! Superb
September 4, 2019 Superb views, extremely quiet and relaxing. We had a great time with lots of seal spills and even saw a pork whale
Fantastic Vacation August 20, 2019 Fantastic vacation spot! The location is unbelievable, with spectacular views. The house is perfect! We had 5 people and fit comfortably. The kitchen has all you need to prepare a great meal. The house is stocked with games and books and amenities. But that view! Breathtaking!! We kayaked and hiked and hit all the local spots. Easy drive to Acadia. So relaxing. We had a tough time saying goodbye! We highly recommend a stay!
Wonderful Stay August 27, 2018 Wonderful stay. The bay is beautiful and the wildlife are amazing. The house was perfect!

Great location and amazing views couldn’t ask for a better place to start my morning with a cup of coffee with an excellent host who is very responsive
We had a wonderful stay here and did not want to leave. The location does it all. The host was very easy to communicate with and we will surely be back to this special place.
Jesse, it was a pleasure to have you at the beach house this season to enjoy the Acadian coast, lobsters and clams, Blue Hill Peninsula, etc... come on back next year! :) Tim
Wonderful property serving all the quintessential Maine vibes. The house was clean, comfortable and right on the water! You can't beat the views and tranquility at the property and we truly enjoyed being removed from Acadia on a quieter peninsula which was extremely fun to explore!
The location and view were excellent. It was a little cold but the portable heaters did the job! The hardwood floors were nice but we brought a couple of runners so that our dog wouldn't slip and they worked perfectly. Had every appliance and kitchen utensil you could want or need!
This was a wondeful waterfrony stay. Beautiful views of the harbor, perfect gathering space. Clean and organized. Loved the fireplace for the chilly weather.
We were looking for something close to Acadia but quiet and away from the crowds and this spot was absolutely perfect! We ended up spending most of the trip just enjoying the house and ocean right out the backdoor as it was everything we had hoped for.

You all were great guests, and thanks for staying with us!!! Hope to see you back again.
What a beautiful property! My family stayed for a week and loved every minute. Close to Acadia and Bar Harbor, but truly amazing enough to make it hard to leave. The beach and seals in your own backyard cannot be beat. We were 7 adults and a child and fit perfectly. Kitchen is well stocked and communication was great (though we didn’t need much while there).
The house was very efficient. Kitchen and living space was nice. Only downfall was having one television. Check-in process was very easy and communication with the property owner was excellent. The view from the front yard was absolutely stunning!!!
I had read the reviews and knew not to come in after dark, but we came in after dark and it was raining. It was very difficult to find the house. I wish there had been more signage to guide us. Or a heads up from Tim.This was a typical Maine beach cottage on the water. No frills. A small television and the heat came from the gas fireplace. Once again, I had read all the reviews and was expecting that. But what made our stay worthwhile was when we walked out the back door and saw that million dollar view. It was simply breathtaking.

Maine trip
House size and view were fantastic. It was isolated but yet still not far to restaurants or grocery. Only 30 min from Acadia and Bar Harbor.
Downside was that it was not very clean and there was no hand towels in bathrooms to use. We also had to find a closet with towels and one of the beds was not made. So we had to find sheets and make ourselves. Finally it was listed there was a futon when really there was only a futon mattress so one of us slept on a floor on a very old futon mattress. I think each room should also have a simple box fan available too as it was 97 one day. Overall, the place has great potential and the view and location was amazing but the finer details were grossly lacking for the price we paid.

We are surprised that the place was not ready for you in the manner to be expected. It was the first rental of the season, and the cleaners must have been behind the eight ball and a little rusty - we will walk them through their mistakes. And we refreshed all the linens (which they should have flagged, again a mistake that we apologize for profusely. I am sorry that you didn't reach out when you got there. We would have had the manager over with fresh linens and to make up the bed and do whatever you requested - PLEASE let us know when things aren't to your standards or needs. We have had almost complete satisfaction over the years. We have also supplied fans for every room as of this point. That was an unseasonable heat snap, unheard of in fact. Thank you global warming! :) Tim

The location could not be beat. 5 stars. We were familiar with the cove and the cottage before renting and our expectations based on the location and the cost per night were high. There were mouse droppings on the kitchen counters and in drawers. There were no cleaning supplies available. No paper towels. There was a dirty used sponge in the kitchen sink and no clean ones available. Luckily we drove from home and had brought some of these things ourselves. I washed the comforter on the downstairs bed before I would use it. It looked dirty and was visibly stained. The cookware needs updating. The kitchen faucet needs repair as does the handle on the oven door. There were portable heaters available and we used them as needed and were comfortable. The shower upstairs was newer and clean. The downstairs bed was comfortable. There is black mold in the downstairs tub that needs attention. Overall, it is a lovely cottage and has so much potential. We did report some of these major things to the owner and he responded quickly. We would love to return in the future and hope that the owner will address these issues to make the cottage as upscale on the inside as it is on the outside, and as the price to stay there reflects what a renter might expect to find upon arrival. :

We had a lot of back and forth on this rental start for sure, some of this was one of those unfortunate miscommunications on the cleaning crew and appliance people coming in to fix a dishwasher and the cleaners getting confused. I think we have addressed all the issues, as well as gave a $200 consideration to the guests. We have also upped the pest service to make sure the mice don't come to visit. Hasn't been a problem much in the past, but that should do it. Basically, things weren't dialed here and we recognize it and will over compensate to make sure everything is up a notch! :)
The best part of this stellar location and home is the view, without a doubt. It is stunning to wake up to and enjoy throughout the day. The isolation at the end of a private dirt road was exactly what we wanted. Although 40 minutes form Bar Harbor / Acadia we were happy to drive the distance for the view. Inside the house much of it is dated though quaint, in need of TLC. The kitchen sink faucet had a leak which only manifested when fully on/open. There were several light bulbs out or simply not present, including the outdoor lights atop the house. Which would have been nice for taking out the dog at night. Each bed had a well-aged mattress and old, non-supportive pillows. If driving here from your own home bring lots of items for the kitchen, including a sponge as the one provided looked to be a year old and beyond its useful life. Also bring toilet paper and tissues, as well as soap for bathrooms, etc. The more you bring the more comfortable you will be... The first floor bathroom had no lock on the door and also, oddly, no fan or window. Outside the farmer's porch was very welcoming, including generous seating. For the lawn there were Adirondack chairs and more. There's ample parking for 4 or 5 cars. If you do have a dog with you check out Woodlawn nearby. Great walking trails. Overall we were happy to have chosen this house and might even consider returning one day. But there are many, many other properties available in the area.
