Beautiful 6BR 3.5BA beach house near Corolla NC on Swan beach. 1 block from the beach. The beach is limited access to owners and their guests.
Start your adventure with an amazing drive on the beach through the 4 wheel drive area. Please air tires down and drive safely.
Views: Dolphins and beach goers. The house has an Amazing wall of windows to take in the ocean views and sunrise. Relax and enjoy stunning views of the ocean, walk across the street to the beach, and watch the wild ponies as they roam across the front yard. Fully supplied house with all the amenities for your friends and family to enjoy the sun and sand at OBX.
Upper level has a Large wrap around multilevel deck to relax in the sun and stunning sunrise view of the ocean. Large Flat screen TVs in the living space and the bedrooms, large selection of DVD movies and games room with hockey table for indoor fun. Wireless Internet. Pet Friendly. Private parking.
**Must have a 4x4 vehicle to drive 3.5 miles on the beach to mile marker 16.5. It is mandatory to air down your vehicle tires to drive on the beach access road. Follow instruction signs to air down your tires on the way to the beach access road. Free air up stations are available in town. Did we mention that it is4x4 access.

I'm sorry that you noticed an odor to the water. We have a well as do all the other houses on the Corolla Beach area. We do have an advanced filtration system setup in the house to clean the water.

Overall the rental was great. There were some things about it which caused some minor inconveniences but after communicating with the host, these issues were resolved. The overall cleanliness needs help. Under beds and on top of surfaces need dusted. We stayed here in 2024 and at that time it seemed to be in overall better shape than this trip. Still an excellent vacation and the location of this listing can’t be beat.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!Drove 11 hrs. to a dump. No instructions on anything, no TV controllers working, It was Very Dirty with Ant/Bug traps all around the kitchen and dining room. The water has a bad odor. The LR has a portable AC unit that I had to dump daily, with no instructions. The Deck is old and broken and there is no Fire Escapes from the second or third floors, which as an Engineer, I am planning to pursue with VRBO and City of Corolla as I requested a 50% refund and no reply from the so-called host. The driveway needs a back hoe to level out as our 4x4 had to deal with ruts and NO Smoke Detectors were working and a couple were missing. The stove alarms and locks out while warming up. I recommend you stay away! The only good part was the visits by the horses.

Awesome place to stay!

Our first family vacation to the Outer Banks and we couldn’t have picked a better location! The house is beautiful and the views are amazing. Saw the wild horses a few times on the beach and right at the house, so exciting!

We loved the location. Easy beach access and wild horses were regularly around the house. The only issue we had was one of the supplemental air units did not work consistently.

Awesome getaway!

We loved getting away for a few days to relax between Christmas and new years. It was a perfect space for our family and friends to gather. The host was super responsive and helpful. Would definitely love to stay again.

Great Location to see the Wild Horses

We stayed at this house because we were attending a wedding about a mile down the beach. It was a great location and we had many wild horse sighting, which was fun. The kitchen was well stocked with pots pans, and utensils. We felt like this property was a good bang for your buck

Summer 2025

Overall, we had a fantastic experience. There was plenty of space for a large group, a nice location for wild horses, and easy access to the beach. The communication and check-in process was the simplest we've ever encountered. A very quiet neighborhood.

Wild horses and beach!

Our goals for this trip were comfort, relaxation, beach, and wild horses. All were completed with this location. The house was so comfortable and inviting. Plenty of space and areas for peace and relaxation. The beach was so close and beautiful. And seeing the wild horses…we thought if we got too see them once or twice we would be happy. But no, we got to see them everyday!!! They were on the property daily and also at the beach. The house was great. It was our first stay at a Vrbo and definitely was a pleasant one. Owners were very responsive to our messages. Loved having the hose and out door shower. Will stay at this location again!

Great location.

Great location, walk to beach, easy access. Property needs cleaned up. Appeared like there was work on the deck currently going on but construction debris all around. Big pile of old removed deck wood next to the house, nails and screws laying around on the deck. Almost stepped on a few of them. House could use some updates, wasn't as nice as it appeared in the listing but wasn't a dump by no means either. Outdoor shower has hardly any pressure at all. Beds aren't the greatest. Little things but still enjoyed ourselves ultimately. The location it awesome. Loved the area.

Expectation Vs Reality

The pictures on VRBO were not accurate. The house was newer and very few houses around it. Pulling up you found many new houses had been built. There was trash and cigarette butts all over the yard and large piles of wood with nails sticking up. The railing inside was broken causing 3 people to fall. The second story balcony had broken railings. This was extremely dangerous because it would not stop someone from falling. The third story balcony had the same issue. VRBO said I had to inform the owner and give them time to fix it. She was not forthcoming and stated it had all been replaced months ago. I sent her numerous videos and pictures. The washer stained our clothes. We were supposed to have parking passes and they were not available. When I threaten to write a bad review she stated our children broke a telescope when no one had been there to inspect anything to be able to make that accusation.

Great experience but house a little worn

The location is phenomenal! There were some challenges driving to property if you are inexperienced beach sand drivers. My daughter got stuck in sand on way to property. It takes some additional information to know how to drive in sand. We should have been informed about airing down tires on drive to property. The house is located in great spot to see ocean and wild horses. The house itself needs an update and some clean up. There was a lot of debris lying around house - old furniture, random pieces of lumber, etc. Plug ins on deck were rusted out with wires sticking out so afraid to plug in exterior lights. Bathrooms and kitchen need updating. There were no outdoor garbage bins so we were confused about where to take garbage bags - no instructions. We loved being able to take our dog. The house was comfortable but needing some love. Dryer does not turn off so you have to manually turn dryer off when you think clothes are dry. Even with age and worn nature of house, we would go back in a heart beat. The location and experience of seeing wild horses roam around property was tremendous.

We are very happy you were able to enjoy our house in this area and see the wild horses. Beach driving is not without it's own challenges of course. But if you take it slow and easy it is very safe. We do have information about airing down your vehicle tires to drive on the beach access road in our property description and in our welcome guide. We have outdoor furniture table and chairs on the ground level for our guests which is stored under the stairs and deck. Unfortunately the winds sometimes takes this furniture out from its storage location. Our cleaning crews handle all trash removal from the house. We are aware of the dryer and have a note to inform guests to turn off the dryer. In the future you can reach out to owners if you have questions about the house. Thank you and we hope to have you as a guest back at our house in the future.

We were extremely disappointed with our stay. The listing photos are outdated and do not reflect the current condition of the property. Upon arrival, we encountered several serious issues:• Outdoor Area: Broken, rusted furniture and dangerously loose, dry-rotted deck boards with exposed nails.• Interior: Strong mildew odor and extreme heat. It took 48 hours to cool. Cracked AC units let in bugs and hot air. Fans and a portable AC unit were scattered throughout.• Basement Bedroom: Unusable due to heat, mildew, and insects.• Cleanliness: The fridge was warm for days, forcing us to use coolers. We killed over 10 large spiders and saw a 3-inch roach. Trash and crumbs were under beds and furniture. Mice droppings in game cabinet and under beds. • Amenities: The grill was broken and filthy. The yard was cluttered with old deck boards.• Structural Issues: Water poured into the dining room during rain, requiring buckets.• Electrical: Several outlets didn’t work, and breakers kept tripping.This property is clearly not maintained and far from what was advertised. It was embarrassing to host guests here. We strongly urge the owners to update the listing and address these serious concerns.

The location of this home is outstanding—just a short walk to the beach, and we saw wild horses daily, which made the trip memorable.However, the house needs maintenance and better communication. On the first night, we discovered a water leak from the ceiling in the downstairs bedroom caused by a clogged HVAC drain line. I managed to fix it and clean the water using the provided towels. When we tried to wash them, we found the washing machine wasn’t working and remained unusable for the rest of the week.The homeowner responded promptly and sent help, but the HVAC tech arrived unexpectedly at 10:30 p.m. The main living area has a portable A/C unit that requires frequent emptying, which we weren’t aware of. This led to water damage in the master bedroom below.The downstairs bedroom had a moldy smell and wasn’t suitable for sleeping. With nine guests and limited towels, not having a washer was a major inconvenience. I also requested additional towels and only received enough for 1 for each guest for the remainder of the week. Lastly, there was no working grill. I reached out after reading a review and was told to bring my own.Overall, the location is fantastic, and the owner was responsive, but the property needs basic upkeep and clearer instructions. With a little attention and some much-needed TLC, it could be a great rental we’d consider returning to.

We stayed at the Sandcastle recently. Overall we had a good time however the house needs some attention. First we were dealing with what looked like roaches in the kitchen all week. There were 4-5 traps in the floor under the cabinets. Flooring in the kitchen was very loose. The ac system couldn’t keep up which is why multiple rooms had window units. Had the basement floor overflow with water from the filtration system. We did reach out to the host about this issue and she responded that it happens when water is used a lot. Even with the system the water still smelled bad and turned white items a orange color. There is some kind of electrical issue because we had to reset breaker alot during the week when we used the microwave. Had to reach out to host to find the breaker box which she responded promptly. Also the first deck is in need of attention, one side looks like it was falling, we didn’t even walk on that side. We did notice that the top deck seemed to have been repaired. We did walk out on that to enjoy the view during coffee and the evenings. The TV in the blue king room would not work. With some much needed TLC this house would be a great house. The location is perfect. We did see horses almost on a daily bases.
