Purple Martin Stay

We stayed at the Purple Martin during an anniversary trip. We love to surf fish and appreciated the covered front porch, water hose beside the front porch, fenced back yard to store our cart, and the outside shower in the back for rinsing off. We couldn't seem to get the dishwasher to start, so I sent a text to the Vacasa staff and they sent someone out to assist the next day. My wife is a hot sleeper and didn't have an issue with the bedroom not being air conditioned, we also brought an additional fan just in case. The house was secluded and just a short drive to beach access. We will be booking the Purple Martin again for future visits to St. Joe Beach. Also, we left behind a few items and the staff at Vacasa found them and shipped them to us! The Vacasa staff has been awesome!

Cute and Clean

My husband and I came to Port St. Joe to have a nice relaxing week and this cabin was perfect for it! It's right by plenty of public beach accesses and the cabin upon arrival was very clean. It is the perfect house for a small family.

Small town feel with the accommodations that fit us

We had a great time. Our house had everything we needed and more. The location was just right-close to the beach, but far enough away. Small, adorable towns in every direction. Food trucks, outdoor food and drink, great bbq and seafood. We grilled, had camp fires. If you just want to chill, this is the place!

Short walk to the beach

This house was a good price for our March stay and a short walk to the beach at the end of the road. The bed is comfortable but small and there is no TV in the bedroom if you like that. The bathroom is also small, but gets the job done. The front and back yard did flood pretty good while we were there, and it only rained one day for about 4 or 5 hours and not very hard. The kitchen is nice as well as the couches, the WiFi did cut out when it was windy.

Clean, comfortable

Very clean and comfortable. Nice linens except sheets didn’t fit the mattress. We stayed a month and the lawn didn’t get mowed the entire time even though we complained. Bedroom was hot at times even with the fan on. Overall we liked the house and would consider staying there again, just not in the summer.

Handy location.

The property is located about a quarter mile from the beach which was great. It is in a quiet, friendly neighborhood and we enjoyed the fenced backyard. It is a rental, and needs a little love as it was dinged and a little dirty, but overall it was fine. Not excellent, not beautiful, but fine. The bed is a queen I think but it felt very small, and the box spring had a "clanking" when weight shifted on the bed. We would have loved to have a king bed, and the bedroom was certainly large enough for it. We appreciated the fact that it was pet friendly, and as I said, the fenced backyard. The cons were it needed a fresh coat of paint in the bathroom and bedroom, and the kitchen utensils were not the best. The lack of central heat/cooling made it a bit difficult to regulate the temperature in the bedroom but there is a large ceiling fan to help with that. Overall for us it met our needs which was to enjoy beautiful beaches and escape the frigid Iowa winter for a month. We do plan on going back again next year.

Great location

As stated in previous reviews, there is no A/C in the bedroom. Although one fan is provided, we bought two fans at the dollar general down the street and made it more bearable. This is a pet friendly rental, which is nice, but you should know the yard is not completely fenced. It isn’t stated either way…not a big deal, but it’s nice to know when you’re bringing fur babies. I’m not sure what cleaning products are used on the floor, but the floors felt pretty grimy and were still dirty so we wore socks or flip flops for our stay. There was an issue with the kitchen sink faucet leaking and the bathtub wouldn’t drain, but they immediately sent someone out for repairs which was amazing. The Vacasa staff was very friendly and helpful.

Overall great place to stay

We loved the location. The heated outdoor shower was a life saver. The open floor plan and kitchen was nice also. It had anything that we would had needed. The only complaint we had, was the bedroom was uncomfortable. The air doesn’t cool that room very well. I would suggest someone to bring a fan with them.. that may would help a little. The tv and internet was super great and fast. We loved being able to watch movies while it was raining. The couches were the most comfortable couches we had ever sat on! We enjoyed sitting on the front porch as well. The neighborhood was quiet and nice as well. We would certainly stay there again but would be prepared with a fan, or may would even consider taking an air mattress simple bc the bedroom was too warm for us to sleep comfortably. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.

Cute little house

This house was the perfect size for our three person family. It was very clean when we got there and had all of the things to start us out that we needed (laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, plenty of towels and even beach towels). When we first pulled up we were a little confused as there was a camper parked in the yard which we didn’t know was supposed to be there. My husband inspected it and it was not hooked up to anything and appeared to only be parked so we chose not to contact Vacasa about it. Our first evening we realized the air unit that was in the living room was the only one in the whole house which left the bedroom very warm even with the fan on. It did take all night for the entire house to finally cool down to a comforting temperature. After the first night we just kept the air on a very high output to ensure it would be cool enough for us at night. I didn’t realize there was no tv in the bedroom which was my own fault for not paying attention in the photos. Wouldn’t have been as big of a deal but we had to put our toddler in the main room to sleep to make sure that she got good, cool air flow at night. The Wi-Fi was great and really fast. One thing that was VERY confusing about this area is that the house is in Central time zone and about a minute to the left on highway 98, it changes to Eastern. We went by the clock on the oven for our check out time (which was central) but it made eating out confusing, knowing what eateries were in what time zone. We chose to drive to a location to the beach since we had our toddler and walking would have been too far for us (more like three blocks than two). Overall we enjoyed our stay here!
