Perfect location for in town guests
We were a small group of four and had plenty of room. The location was 8 minutes from the Riverbend Campground where we attended a wedding. Location was perfect and a nice, clean, updated home to allow for a relaxing wedding weekend trip. Bring your groceries, not a lot of grocery stores nearby. Extra Thank you to the host for the hot tub option. Well appreciated after long days.

Quiet Retreat
This lovely, 100-acre, multi-generation property is most generally used for retreats - creative, spiritual, contemplative, for which it is perfect! It's the venue you need to completely unplug, unwind, and refresh in serenity. Pennie, Jackie, and family couldn't have been more accommodating. It was a wonderful month for us fledgling snowbirds. Bless these amazing people for sharing their spacious and well-equipped homestead.

Awesome
The property was just what we were looking for. Spacious, quiet and a little outside of town. The showers were really good and the Master bedroom slept great. Highly recommend staying here. Pennie was also amazing! She hooked us up with some wood for the fire pit and a bottle of wine.

Clean, quite, roomy home just outside of Bogalusa, LA
My family of 4 (all adults) stayed over Thanksgiving 2023 and we could not have been more impressed. We enjoy Thanksgiving with my mother-in-law who is 90 but because the family have all grown over the years we can no longer all stay together. I founs this house listed and was so pleased that we plan to rent it every time we make the trip to Bogalusa. The host was very descriptive in how to fins this wonderful house out in the country. It is surrounded by wide open spaces and a couple ponds. We watched 5 deer lazily walk around the property one morning. The house has 3 bedrooms and wide open living area. Would be great for hosting a gathering or just getting together with family and friends. The house was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen looked to be very well stocked (we didn't actually use it this trip) and there were plenty of towels and blankets. No key to keep up with either as door is controlled using a code for access. You will not be disappointed with this cozy find in the country.

We are two. Pennie is a writer. Jackie is an artist. We met in college, became roommates and lifelong friends. We began our creative journeys independently, but in our middle years, our strongest reconnection became our creative paths. Our disciplines are different, but we discovered that what feeds one of us, feeds the other. The short-term rental is just a drop in our story. We are developing a creative retreat center, the Inner Gardens Retreat Center. We hope to host many who seek a serene space for nourishing their creative spirit.

Why they chose this property

Welcome to Fairpop Farm. When my grandmother Mama Nick discovered she was pregnant with my her 4th child—who happened to be my dad and her last child—she told my grandfather Papa Nick in no uncertain terms, "I gotta have another house!" On his way to work that rainy morning, his Model 8 Coupe tires were too thin to cut through the mud on the road that is now Highway 60. He went to the nearest house on the south side of the road for help. Mr. David answered his door, told my grandfather, "All I've got is a mule, but we'll give it a try." Papa Nick wasn't a very forward person, but, in the rain and mud, he opened up to Mr. David. "I've gotta find me a place to build me a house. Got another one coming, and I need a bigger house." "I've got 37 acres over there," Mr. David said, pointing north of the dirt road. "I'll sell you that." He stood on the highest point of the property after he bought the land and declared, "You can see a fair pop from here." That's the origin of the name. My dad was born and raised in the house my grandparents built. Eventually, my grandfather, then my dad, would purchase more land. This house, affectionately known as Zeke's house, was the latest addition to the Fairpop property. When I was five and before the master bedroom was added, my family lived here. My bedroom was what is no the middle bedroom. This land and the houses on it have good bones, good, healing energy, and my hope is that all the guests feel and benefit from the energy of Fairpop Farm.

What makes this property unique

This property is bathed in almost ninety years of afternoon summer thunderstorms, garden sweat, mild winters, glorious springs and falls, watermelon juice to cool the sweltering summers, and simple treasures of family and land. That's sentimental. But, you know what's convenient? You're ten miles from the Bogalusa Blues & Heritage Festival, seventeen miles from the Washington Parish Fair, and the Bogue Chitto State Park? Fourteen miles if you take the dirt road, twenty on paved. Are you here for the horses? We're only seventeen miles from Folsom. If cycling is your thing, you are twenty one miles from the Tammany Trace Bike Trail head in Abita Springs. Whether you come to retreat from it all or just need a hub for excursions, this is your place.
