Cottage was very clean and had many amenities which was very much appreciated. Fenced yard was a perk due to our dogs. Very private and easy to access. We were attending a wedding at Lovingston Winery which was close. We were very pleased with our stay! Thank you!
My mom and I used this place as a home base as we explored around Charlottesville and Lynchburg, it was perfect! Remote and relaxing with all the amenities we could want. Rebecca was super responsive and helped us have an amazing stay!
Great out of the way place for a couple or small families. The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils and cookware to make any meal from breakfast to dinner. The fenced in, sizeable yard is a great amenity for those with dogs. Finally, the night sky is phenominal. You can clearly see many stars and constellations without light pollution. Great for stargazing.
The Refuge is such a wonderful place.! It was perfect for us. The location is quiet and peaceful. We had a few late afternoon showers and it was fun sitting on the front porch and enjoying the summer run. The back yard is huge with a great fire pit. I can't wait to go back!
We had a good time at The Refuge. A little house in the country that felt homey and inviting. Rebecca was super responsive whenever I contacted her. A nice alternative to a hotel room.
What a treasure to find this Nelson County gem! It was the perfect spot to enjoy the peaceful outdoors in a charming cottage. So much bigger on the inside than it looks - and such a nice renovation. Rebecca was very responsive to our messages. We will definitely be coming back - if only to check on the resident eastern phoebes! Thanks so much.
This home was in a beautiful location, situated near the vineyard where we enjoyed a family wedding. So grateful for the cozy, comfortable home with everything we needed!
And our family pup was thrilled to be able to join us!
After a beautiful drive through the mountains, we arrived at our Refuge at Laurel. It is perfectly located between Charlottesville & Lynchburg making our visit to historic sites in Virginia easy. Then we got to return to the PEACE & QUIET found at The Refuge. Well stocked with everything one needs inside, there's the beautiful grounds that surround it. Great communication from our Host, this is definitely a place we will look forward to visiting again !
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in your beautiful little cabin. Just the 2 of us enjoyed our meals and restful evenings at the cabin. Loved the swing on the front porch. Kitchen was well stocked, even Emeril cookware! Surrounding area is quiet and beautiful. Thank you.
Absolutely loved being in the middle of nowhere for a long weekend with a friend. Appreciated the fully stocked kitchen and bathroom. There were plenty of extra blankets if needed. Her directions were straight and to the point. Would definitely stay here again. :)
Really enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Close to places we have always enjoyed. Our two daschunds enjoyed the fenced yard and running around. We will be back soon we hope. The only thing that we didn't like was the bed, little better with the topper off. Instructions on thermostat would be helpful. But we loved it. PS don't believe the 45 mph signs on the beautiful country roads, just enjoy the beauty.
Our host was super rapid with responses to any questions we had. And the home was outfitted with everything you’d need, right down to spices. I was so impressed with all the thought and presentation and preparation our host presented in this property. Would definitely come back!
We really enjoyed the cozy cottage; perfect size for the two of us. It was so welcoming to find a bottle of local wine left for us to enjoy. We found many places to hike in the area. Appreciated the help with directions (don’t turn on Roberts Road). Nice to sit outside in both the front and back.
Stayed for a few days with my dog to get away for my birthday and really enjoyed it. It was nice to have the huge fenced in yard so he could sunbathe and I didn’t have to worry about him.
The property was much closer to the main road than I thought it would be but when you’re in the back, you can’t even tell. The only negatives were ants in the kitchen (understandable since you’re in the woods) and I wished the living room and bedroom had overhead lights instead of only floor/table lamps. It also would have been great if firewood were included, as it has been when I’ve stayed elsewhere, but I just brought my own so it wasn’t a big deal.
Location was nice and central- ate at Dr Hos and went to Virginia Distillery and had a fantastic time. Oh and the bed was incredible! Overall, the property was great and both my dog and I had an enjoyable, relaxing stay.
This is a sweet place to just chill out and relax. The yard was perfect for my dog. Such a nice cozy little place to get away. The bathroom was well stocked and the owner was so nice. We had an issue getting in thanks to my mom not paying attention lol and the owner was quick to respond and help us out.

Disappointed
We arrived to a house that had not been cleaned. Dirty towels on the bathroom floor, bed still had sheets from previous occupant on it, dirty dishtowel on range door. Door lock saying the battery was low and needed to be replaced.
