Kentucky Gem ~ Rooftop Deck + Easy Walk to Stadiums, The Banks, and Downtown

This spacious urban dwelling is steeped in history, as is our charming and entirely f-l-a-t + walkable neighborhood. The home dates to the 1860s when it was likely built to house craftsmen involved in the building of the architecturally significant Roebling Suspension Bridge, the prototype for The Brooklyn Bridge. It is thought that John Roebling himself might have designed this property.
In 2007: top-to-bottom, wall-to-wall renovations resulted in '2008 River Cities Preservation' and '2008 Friends of Covington Beautification' awards. A three story 'flying' staircase, scale, contemporary upgrades and location yield both character and comfort. Here, history and modernity are not to be confused with rigidity: put your feet up and bring your dog! There's a decidedly down-home feel with an up-town vibe.
Truly a handsome and affordably priced alternative for Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky business travellers -- or -- for regionally-inclined tourists and vacationing families. Ideally suited for small-scale meetings and entertaining, too.
Bounded to the north by the Ohio River, Cincinnati is a quick two blocks and a bridge (yes: that one!) away, as are Great American Ball Park, Paul Brown Stadium, US Bank Arena -- and -- Queen City culture, entertainment, retail and cuisine. Fine and home-style dining, indie coffee houses (2 + a Starbucks), shopping and multiple entertainment options are also available just outside the door. Lexington and Louisville are each roughly (and Bluegrass scenic) 90 minutes away.
While most everything is within walking distance, two dedicated, off-street parking spaces are provided. As well, a "Red Bike" station -- and -- a retro-fitted trolley* stop (*that traverses Covington and Newport KY, and Cincinnati) are a block away. For full immersion in Kentucky's fabled horsiness, a livery across the street operates horse-drawn carriages most weekends and some week nights, using much the same routes.
Or, stay home and make good use of the roof deck with its panoramic views of the Cincinnati skyline and surrounding hillsides, the sunset-spilled den, and/or the jetted tub.

Great location. We never had to get in our car the whole weekend. We walked to the Bengals game and to all the restaurants around the neighborhood. We hope to visit again.
Beautiful historic home was the perfect location for walking across the river to Paycor stadium. Host clearly communicated and made us feel so welcomed. Plenty of space for our group - 6 adults, 2 children and a dog.
Beautiful house. Amazing location. The rooftop deck was great. We were so lucky weather-wise that we had two wonderful evenings to spend watching the fireworks in Cincinnati and the stars. Easy walk to so many different restaurants and pubs. Highly recommend!
Lisa was absolutely wonderful to work with. She was extremely thoughtful about stocking the condo and she also provided numerous board games which we took advantage of. The only “issue” that we had was that there was no television on the bottom/main floor and that the den on the top floor was a little bare. All in all we enjoyed our time there.
We were really excited about this stay based on the listing, but unfortunately it did not matchexpectations in several important ways. The overall condition of the property was significantly below what we anticipated from thephotos. It appeared worn and in need of a deep clean, and several areas felt neglected or notwell maintained. One of the biggest disappointments was the rooftop deck, which is highlighted in the listingtitle. We were unable to use it, and this wasn’t communicated ahead of time. That was amajor factor in choosing this property, so it was frustrating to discover upon arrival. We also had concerns about cleanliness and general upkeep that made our stayuncomfortable. For example, there was a layer of black dust/dirt on all baseboards and mostsurfaces. Ultimately, we chose to leave early and stay elsewhere. We did reach out after the stay, but were told that because we didn’t report everything duringthe stay, no resolution could be offered. While we understand policies, it was stilldisappointing given the circumstances.I would recommend future guests confirm the current condition of the property and any keyamenities before booking.
The property was conveniently located near the Roebling Bridge that allowed us to walk to the baseball stadium and other downtown buildings. The number of restaurants and bars nearby was wonderful. Lisa was a nice host greeting us upon arrival and being available if needed. The kitchen and dining area were very good. My daughter was able to bring her dog too.
Property was perfect for our needs. Lisa went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Most attentive host i have ever experienced. Strongly recommend.
This house is in walking distance to so many things to do. We walked to the Reds ballpark and all different restaurants each day. It was so nice to not have to drive everywhere. The owner was so accommodating with all requests and information. There was ice cream, bagels, coffee and so much more on arrival. I highly recommend staying here.
We wanted a place close to the Great American Ballpark. This location was awesome. We were able to walk to the game over the bridge. The vibe in this Covington neighborhood was fantastic, with many fun places to eat and drink.
The host was super responsive and hospitable. We were in the area for a Kona Ice convention which was just a short walk. Between meetings we enjoyed walking the river and visiting a couple of local pubs. Thank you for a great stay!
The location was fantastic. We had an easy walk to the aquarium and to the Reds game. The home was very comfortable and the owner's attention to detail made us feel very welcome. We had a terrific weekend stay.
The location was perfect for access to downtown Cincinnati, OTR, and UC events. Our host, Lisa, was kind and helpful. The property had everything we needed to make our three generational family visit comfortable and enjoyable.
Wonderful stay. Lots to do within walking distance. Host was attentive without being overbearing.

About the host

One sister uses this property as her home away from her Washington, DC home whenever she opts to unleash upon us yokels her cranky little terrier and two 'lively' Tween and Teen kids. Living just a few doors away from said property ... and the aforementioned terrier/niece/nephew trifecta: this aunt -- in need of respite! -- is more than happy to extend top-notch hospitality to non-relatives.
Why they chose this property
Listed on The National Register of Historic Places in 1971, Covington KY's Historic Licking Riverside Neighborhood has long been one of the premier historic districts in Greater Cincinnati, and was recognized by The American Planning Association as 'A 2013 Great Place in America.' ( 1 of 10). And Cincinnati -- 'The Queen City' -- is cosmopolitan and cozy at the same time, and just a stone's throw away.
What makes this property unique
Location, History, Ambience, Comfort, View, and 'ThisClose' Proximity to Cincinnati, and Multiple Dining, Cultural + Entertainment, Big 'n Small Retail, a Terrific Riverfront Park, and Sporting Destinations. Walkable + ease of access to "Red Bike" rentals and Trolley. Dedicated off-street parking.
Sports Peeps ~ Both stadiums are well-less than a mile + a 'festive' (Go Reds!) -- or -- a 'raucous' (Who Dey!) walk/trolley ride ($1 per person/runs every 15 minutes) away. Tailgating begins at our corner. Indians'/Browns' and Pirates'/Steelers' fans: Prepare for Good-Natured Ribbing en route ...
