Check-in and check out are simple, the cottage is clean and comfortable. It’s a short drive from the IU campus (15 minutes), and very quiet. Ideal for a weekend visit away from the bustle of campus.
Second time staying in this cottage. It’s close enough to campus, yet in the woods and quiet. Host is great and easy to communicate with. Perfect place to stay when visiting our daughter at IU.
Such a cute beautiful little house ! We absolutely loved staying here!

Thank you so much for your kind words about our place. I’m so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure to host you and your guests. Thank you for taking such great care of the cottage. It’s always nice to see a guest treat our place like home.
This property was conveniently located in a beautiful area! The home was very cute and has an interesting history. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it!
I stayed here with part of a bridal party and it was beautiful! Nice quiet location, schoolhouse features, and the perfect amount of space! The rooms look better in person than in the pictures. We were mostly running around for wedding events but it was nice to have a cozy place to come back to. Would definitely recommend!
The school house was perfect for a quick weekend at IU! About 10-15 mins from campus. Walked out this morning to a mother deer and her two babies in the driveway. Two bedrooms, nice kitchen and living room. So much better than a hotel!I would definitely stay again in the future.
All of our goals of “eat, drink and relax”during our stay at the School House Cottage were met. The entire house was immaculate, plenty of towels, the kitchen was supplied with plenty of dishes, pots/pans, etc. The host left water, soft drinks and snacks for our arrival. Our only complaint was the uncomfortable seating in the living room, but everything else was perfect!!
The cottage is in a perfect spot! Close to downtown Bloomington and Nashville, IN. Bike trail right in front of the cottage. Nicely shaded by the surrounding trees. Adorable place! Clean and it was perfect for our weekend getaway!
We were here for parents weekend and this cottage was perfect! Close enough to everything, yet tucked in the woods. Very quiet, private area. The cottage itself was very clean and cozy. It has anything you could need, including some snacks and drinks, which was a nice unexpected bonus. We would definitely stay here again when coming back to visit.
We absolutely loved our stay for graduation weekend. The Schoolhouse is very clean and tidy and nicely equipped. They left gifts for our daughter for graduation and a Mother’s Day balloon for me. So thoughtful and responded quickly to our questions about checkout. A little ways out from campus, but totally worth it. Quiet, woodsy area - such a nice place to stay!
We absolutely loved our stay here! It was so cool to know we were staying in an old schoolhouse. This is my 25th year of teaching so that added to the experience. I would highly recommend this place!
After a long week at a business conference in Memphis, I needed a place to go and unwind. This was the ticket. Quiet and restful, it was the perfect place to unwind. About 10-15 minutes from some great dining establishments in Bloomington. Highly recommend if you want a quick weekend getaway.
The property was just as listed and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed for a weekend stay. Having coffee out on the back deck was amazing. My only comment would be that the furniture in the front room was not very comfortable for watching movies or tv but for the short amount of time that we were at the house, it was fine. Would definitely return though because of the proximity to Brown county and Bloomington. The owner was great to work with!
Fascinating Historical and Very Comfy Cottage in the Forest
My daughter and I were celebrating our 85th and 60th birthdays and absolutely fell in love with this little cottage on a lovely property. Once a schoolhouse, it has been remodeled into a lovely 2 bedroom cottage - Pickett Fence and all. An apple tree just outside the kitchen window drew squirrels and a mama deer with her 2 fawns....The place is very clean and well stocked...and so close to Bloomington and Nashville. Highly recomomend.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the School House Cottage! The old schoolhouse-turned-home is simple, yet has everything you need. It's situated perfectly between IU and Brown State Park, making our visits to both, seamless. We were also there at a great time, when the home was surrounded by all the beautiful fall foliage. The fire pit out on the deck makes for perfect evenings winding down, as well as the included refreshments we were surprised with. I prefer stays with character, and this cozy cottage came with plenty, which you can even read about in the historical text in the home. I would love to stay here again!
We booked this for the 4/8/24 eclipse. It was the perfect spot for viewing. The owner left snacks & drinks that were all themed for the eclipse. They even left two pairs of eclipse glasses. Very thoughtful touch! The street has traffic but isn't terribly busy. The neighborhood made it feel quite separate from the busy college city while still being just a few minutes away from stores/restaurants. We even saw some wild turkeys and foxes. I would absolutely book this cottage again if I ended up back in Bloomington for any reason.
We chose the location to be central between Lake Monroe and Bloomington. We were visiting to enjoy the lake and also be able to visit town for dinner.
The last 4 or 5 miles of the drive on Google Maps took us down a one lane gravel road and across a narrow metal bridge but after we checked in found it was much easier to take the "highway" back into Nashville..plan your route ahead if you plan on visiting with a boat or camper/trailer.
The house was perfect and exactly as described with 2 bedrooms with queen beds and a central bathroom along with everything else you'd find at a hotel but in a much more relaxing setting. The neighbors that were out walking were all very friendly and the evening visits from the wildlife were great as well.
Overall, A+!
