The stay was great! Although, the trail to the lake was about 1 mile through the woods. The ad says sleeps 10. We had 8 and found it a little tight. There are 3 bedrooms with 1 queen bed each, and a pull out couch. In the end, we enjoyed time with family.

Great first experience at Deep Creek!
Wonderful place! The cabin was absolutely great. Very clean and a great location. The property is beautiful - we saw deer in the back yard within 30 minutes of arrival! During our walk on the trail to the lake we saw a family of deer, one was almost pure white - beautiful! Very quiet area. The owners were very prompt with responses and a pleasure to work with. It was our first visit to the area, and we will definately return.

Our home is so close to "Deer Crest" that many of our guests have deer sightings. It's awesome that people are still seeing the white deer around. We think he's the coolest of them all!
The cabin was very cute and well stocked. Great location close to Wisp. We overall really enjoyed the stay. Communication was poor, no response to question day before arrival regarding coffee appliance. I packed my own coffee maker just in case since I didn’t hear back. Could not check listing for details, it was taken down from vrbo site (not sure if this was intentional or a glitch with website). The combination of not seeing the listing to review and not hearing back from owner caused concern about the validity of our reservation as we drove from our home 3 hrs away. The communication issues continued- delayed response to inquiry made during stay. Received response the evening before we were checking out. Several lights bulbs were out making it very dark. One of the heating units didn’t work. I eventually fixed the heat on my own, discovered a tripped fuse for this unit in breaker box. Master bedroom bed was so uncomfortable- had to move to fold out couch on 2nd night. Could not find sheets for this, so we took sheets off of the queen. There were extra pillows in closets, no pillowcases. Overall it was a fun getaway, but not without a few bumps along the way in the cabin/vrbo experience.
The cabin was very nice. The add needs to be updated though. Add states there is shampoo and soap. There was no shampoo. Wifi password was not under the modem but in the book. And the dish washer was full of dishes did not know if they were clean or dirty. Was on a weekend get away and was not about to put dishes away.

Great vacation!
It's not often that a rental is better than the pictures. That was the case with Maine Retreat. It was immaculate when we arrived. It was fantastically supplied, the only item we were short on was paper towels and the owners had them delivered without us even asking. The dogs had a ball and even non-pet owners can rent this house. You would never guess a pet had ever been there. We could not have been happier with our experience and would rent again from Pia in a second. We did the white water rafting at Wisp and the mountain coaster both were great fun.

Vacation Memories we will NEVER forget!!
The Maine Retreat was all we expected and then some. It was clean, comfortable, rustic and just perfect! Not to mention extremely affordable compared to other rentals of this size!! We really did not need to bring anything but ourselves, clothes and some food, because they had EVERYTHING you would ever need! The owners made the renting of their beautiful home so easy and they are such wonderful people!!
We also brought our two furry kids with us (our dogs, L.C. and Sampson), and they had a blast running around the property and down to the cove.
We also went to a few places where they were able to go swimming, New Germany Park and Swallow Falls Park were the best! Outside of the entrance to Swallow Falls Park there's a place where you can park your car and cross the road. We were walking on the trail and went down the embankment a few times and found some places they could jump in the river and swim along with us (it was pretty deep in certain spots too). They/we LOVED it!!!!.
We also went to Wisp Resort and rode on the Mountain Coaster. It was unbelievably fun! We also went to ASCI, where they have manmade white water rafting. We had a blast there!! We flipped the raft at one point and it was intense!!! Well worth every second!
We got to see some deer outside of the cabin and when my husband went golfing at Wisp Resort he got to see a bear on fairway #3. It was about 50 yards in front of him. He said it ran probably 200 yards in 20 seconds so do not EVER try to out run one if you are face to face with it!!!
All in all we had a fantastic time and we will surely always remember this vacation fondly!!
Thank you so much Pia and Greg for making this a memorable vacation for us and our two four legged children :o)

Sublimely Relaxing!
I would have likely rated 6 stars if the weather had been nicer! ( I do know there are only 5 stars). It rained most of the week, but honestly we didn't care as its been so hot and dry here in Florida, it was kind of nice to have several rainy days. The front porch can't be beat. I imagine that the Summer and Fall are awesome as far as the lake is concerned. We didn't get to canoe or fish as it was too cold but the access to both, right through the woods and down the path, is excellent. Saw lots of nature ( 25+ deer the day we were leaving), many different birds, an otter, and heard the peeping frogs as well...something we miss in Florida. We hiked in the rain most days, and watched lots of movies most nights. Built a fire in the fireplace 3 nights but never did build one in the firepit due to the rain. Looked like a great spot for s'mores. Cottage is well equipped, cozy, just really perfect. We had everything we needed to cook a big Easter dinner. Another day we purchased fresh oysters in Oakland and feasted on those as well as great shrimp from the Arrow market in Deep Creek right down the road on Rte 219. Everything was very convenient. My husband and his brother golfed at Thousand Acres and Alpine Lake and mostly had the courses to themselves. All in all.........very, very nice.

Cozy and clean getaway
This cabin was everything we needed it to be. It was far from the city (DC for us), and yet it wasn't old and musty like one's worst nightmares (and perhaps some experiences) might make us fear. For just my wife and I, we found this place to be very well cleaned, simple, but with everything we needed. This included cooking supplies, extra blankets, wood (though uncovered and outside which needed some drying-out), and windows enough in the large room that it felt spacious.
We had a couple of things we needed to ask the owner about, and she was imminently reachable. The walk down to the lake (frozen while we were there) is a beautiful short walk to a beautiful location.
It's about 15 minutes to the nearest town and grocery store, which had everything we needed (and even some extra things we wanted!).
We are hoping ot go back, perhaps with another couple of friends this time.

Immaculate well-laid out cabin in a beautiful woodsy setting. Joy!
Our pack is two adults, an 8 year old, and two dogs. We went to Maine Retreat for a getaway and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Very nice trail through the woods to an opening by the water, great cookout locale just behind the house, and a very cozy, attractive lay out inside. The house was stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed communing with nature and drives in and around Deep Creek. Hosts could not have been more helpful. Thank you, hope to be back soon!

Perfect DCL Experience!
We had a great time at the cabin. Our toddler loved playing with all the yard games (cornhole, cricket, badminton, and more!) and our dog enjoyed exploring in the woods and lounging in the shady yard. It was short walk to down to the cove where we could fish and the dog could swim. We also enjoyed taking the canoe out. The cabin provided a perfect amount of quiet and solitude while still being close to all the activity of Deep Creek Lake. Great dining options are just a few minutes away. We rented a boat for the day from Bill's Marine and that was just about a 15 minute drive.
The house itself was very clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable. The fire pit and firewood were a nice touch. Our only complaint was that toilet paper and paper towels were not provided so we had to make a trip to the store for those.
We had a small problem when we were not able to find the canoe at the location described to us in the manual from the owners. We called the owners and they were very responsive (on a Saturday) and got the property management company to handle the issue right away. (It turns out the property management company had put the canoe in a different location without the owners' knowledge.) We were very impressed with how quickly the owners resolved the problem.
We had a great experience and would return!

A relaxing family retreat!
We spent a relaxing week at the Maine Retreat with our 2 kids and big dog. We loved having the yard and the woods to walk through. Walking down to the lake was a daily tradition, and we saw a beaver a couple of times. We also enjoyed the canoe - very peaceful. We really enjoyed the recommendations listed in the binder in the house, especially the Fireside Deli. I unfortunately had to work one day, and the internet access was great. So, all in all, if you need some time away (but might not get it), the Maine Retreat is a great place to go!

The "Marraige" Retreat
After a busy wedding weekend, the Maine Retreat offered a relaxed environment to unwind and enjoy all that the Deep Creek area has to offer. Greg and Pia were extremely accomodating throughout the reservation process and happily answered a million of my questions prior to our visit.
The description of the property is accurate. The Lake access is a short walk away and the house is tidy, well kept and has been updated nicely.
The large front porch has very comfortable seating and was a great place to sit and have coffee in the morning while the fireplace in the living area served as a great ammenity during the colder evening hours.
All in all, my wife and I enjoyed our stay greatly and will likely be coming back again!

Simply perfect
My fiancée and I stayed at the cabin during a skiing trip to Wisp. The cabin was the perfect place to stay. It was very comfortable and very peaceful. The location was private enough where we felt we were away from it all, yet gave easy access to Wisp, grocery stores, and shopping. With all the outdoor activities in the area during the summer, we're hoping to go back very soon to spend some time on the lake and do some hiking. Thank you Pia and Greg for a much appreciated and enjoyed weekend at your cabin!

Great value and location!!
Secluded yet within a 10 minute drive to big box stores, "mom and pop shops" and restaurants.
We arrived just in time for a beautiful "white christmas"
The cabin is very well maintained and clean. We had a couple of minor issues upon check-in but the management company took care of it pretty quickly--- especially considering it was the sunday before christmas. We loved walking the trails behind the cabin with our dogs down to the lake.
The only minor negative comment I can think of is ,that while the cabin is advertised as having internet--- you have to use an older pentium based laptop that is provided onsite-- it seemed to take a long time to view emails and web pages.. I think it would be very advantagious to just provide wireless internet with an access code for renters that would bring their own laptops.
Other than that --our 1 week stay was very relaxing and a memorable family vacation! We are already thinking about possibly booking a week in the summer to take advantage of the activities around beautiful Deep Creek Lake !!
Thanks-- Pia and Greg for opening up "The Maine Retreat" to us for the holidays!!

I'm glad to hear you had a great time taking advantage of our unique property. However, I'm sorry to discover you struggled figuring out the Wi-Fi. We offer both Wi-Fi and a laptop, but you don't have to use them together. The laptop is a back-up for those who leave their own devices at home. If you ever return, please do not hesitate to call about any disappointments during your stay. Our Wi-Fi was professionally installed, so our computer technician is often available to talk guests through technical issues or even make house calls, if there were a problem. We hope to host you again and give you the 5-star stay you deserve!

Great getaway
All in all this place was amazing. The only complaint I have is that the week I went it was very hot and the place has no air conditioning. Six of us went, loved being secluded but not far from of a drive to everything. Also the walk to the lake was nice also. Will definitely go again, my kids had a great time too.
Response from VrboOwner on 31 Jul 2021
We're so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay! Happy to hear you liked our home's privacy and took advantage of our little walking trail to the water. We often hear people find themselves walking more than they expect because of the convenience of the private trail. Unfortunately, you had an unseasonably warm week...Most summer days in DCL are mild and comfortable, which is why many homes in DCL don't have a/c. With that said, we want guests to be satisfied with all aspects of the home, so we are purchasing a/c for summer 2014 to better accommodate the range of guest preferences and cool the home on the peak heat days of July. Hopefully, when you return next summer, you'll like the change!

Very nice house, lots of fun playing in the snow!
Very nice place to stay. The property management was very helpful and friendly. We ran into a few issues with the amount of snow (hardly anyone's fault!), and it would have been nice to have a shovel, but the property manager arranged for the drive and road to be plowed a couple of times, which was extremely helpful and relieving.
It was a lot of fun to have the sleds available, and all the basics were well met. Thank you very much, Pia and Greg!

Glad you enjoyed your mid-March winter wonderland! Snow is one of the many reasons we love having 24/7 property maintenance help us out-- when you don't have a shovel, they bring over a plow and they come with a smile! Perfect Getaway
This cabin is absolutely beautiful! The surroundings are so peaceful, secluded and full of nature. It is a cozy, warm and inviting home which makes it real hard to leave. The fireplace and the backyard full of trees and forests were our favorite parts of this place. Our three dogs really enjoyed all the scents of the woods and the many nature trails we were close to. The cabin is in close proximity to a few of the local state parks. We really enjoyed how we were tucked back in the woods all by ourselves, but we also had the convenience of grocery stores, markets, restaurants, etc. only 5-10 miles away. The cabin is very clean and well kept. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a secluded, quiet, scenic retreat. We look forward to our return!

College Reunion
My wife and I traveled from Charlotte, NC traveled to the Maine Retreat for a place to stay to visit a milestone reunion at my alma mater. At the same time, we had family from PA visit and we were there for four days and three nights. My only regret is we didn’t stay longer! It’s close enough to everything yet far enough away with plenty of space to spread out. We had (2) small children, (4) adults and (2) dogs…we were all depressed going home, even the dogs. The amenities were very spacious and comfortable, no one ever felt crowded and the kids especially had a blast. This one will become an “annual”, only for a full week in the future. There is simply too much to take in for the short time we were there.

Enjoy this cozy hideaway cabin
We stayed here for a snowy weekend in January with our two dogs. We ventured out in the 18 degree winter temps to explore the lake access trail and to hike Snowy Swallow falls. We enjoyed cooking our meals in and snuggling in front of the fireplace while watching the big screen. The cabin is clean and comfortable. We would recommend it without hesitation. We couldn't have asked for a better winter getaway with the "furry kids".

Awesome property, inside and out; The Maine Retreat is warm, inviting, and private! The inside was clean, comfortable, and very well equipped. The owners have provided well for a wonderful time. The yard was a special treat with wintergreen and huckleberry bushes! The short hike through the woods to the lake was beautiful with bluets and other wildflowers. We enjoyed taking the canoe out on the lake and fishing (we caught perch!). The Maine Retreat was perfect for us to celebrate our 20th anniversary!! Thank you so much!

Just what we were looking for........
Our family vacation at the Maine Retreat was perfect for our family during our Easter Break. From the time we arrived to the time we left, it was total solitude and very peaceful. (Except when we were playing TABOO and other board games!) Saw Deer and Turkey roaming around in the backyard during the mornings and had good ole fashion camp fire dinners at night with the kids.
Pia and Greg were great hosts and their house was perfect for outdoor family activities and close to the lake for fishing and canoeing. If you have kids and enjoy peace and quite, your family will enjoy the stay. Real close to Swallow Falls State Park. If your family likes to hike, you have to go to the park's Canyon Trail. Gorgeous Trail.

Great week at Deep Creek
We just got back from a week at this lovely cottage. It was very clean (mentioned before), and well appointed but not overly so. MY son enjoyed the playstation (we don't have one), we made smores over the campfire (and a candle when it rained!) We enjoyed the trails, made it to Swallow Falls 3 times, visited the natural slides in Ohiopyle Pa (check it out, it's less than an hour away), we spent a whole day at Smileys (go karts and stuff), just had a nice relaxing time. This cottage is "further" from the main action, but that was good, no cars zipping by, you could get to town in less than 10 minutes. While there the first morning my son and I saw a white deer! How cool is that. We had some initial technology problems, but Pia arranged for that to be resolved immediately. Great hosts, great cabin.

About the host
Hosted by Pia
We hope you love our place as much as we do! We have enjoyed the many weeks and weekends spent away from the city, immersed with nature. During the week, we are busy professionals who help children and adults with special needs. On weekends, we've come to really enjoy peaceful, restorative weekends at DCL. We joined VRBO to share our home with others who we hope will enjoy using it when we can't.
Why they chose this property
We love that Swanton offers Deep Creek Lake's four-seasons of activities without tons of neighbors. We prefer a bit of seclusion while maintaining quick access to the lake, park, etc.
What makes this property unique
Our cul-de-sac has just one full-time resident and our neighbors each have acreage that separates our homes. Still, we can walk down to the lake and take the canoe out to fish, swim, or paddle. We are close to all central DCL activities, including WISP resort, where we swim, play raquetball, workout, and soak in the hot tub for just $7/day (every weekend!). Not to mention ski! We viewed other homes in the area and just couldn't find another home that had the convenient location with privacy, lake access, and a traditional 'yard'. We wanted space to play old-fashioned games and soak in the sun! Best of all, the property reminded us of our many vacations to Maine. We put an offer on this house the first day we saw it.
