We are really easy going group of people that have been traveling together for the last 6 years now. We always try to overlook the negatives and focus on the positives. However, there are really three problems with our trip this time, 1) property facility issues, 2) property management, and 3) the town of Tulum. Firstly, our house (casa Aviv) lost water for 1.5 days, not because of power loss but it was mechanica/plumbing issues. They did try to accommodate us by putting us into another property, but that property smelled and was not used for awhile and was unclean for some reason. Secondly, the property management team does not work until 9:30am to 6pm, very difficult to get a hold of in case of emergencies, like no water. Even during their work hours, it would take several hours or the next day to get a response. Thirdly, the town’s power grid isn’t up to date, so with multiple rolling black outs that could last between 15 minutes to 2 hours in our case. The black out meant no internet, shortage of water when the cistern goes empty, and no toilet flushing & water for showering. Please get a generator. Lastly, this isn’t the property’s fault, but be prepared to pay a lot money wherever you go, even though international exchange rates are 18.30pesos to 1 usd…you be lucky if they give 17:1. Nothing there seems cheap for tourist. Tulum needs to do better, if they want tourism and investors (such as myself) to come there. I was considering investing in Tulum, but not anymore.
