1820 Whaling Captain's Home - A walk to a coffee or cocktail!

Set in the historic section of Greenport village, the Captain’s House, built in 1820, is an elegant and charming 3 bedroom, 2 bath home ready to enjoy, especially for a summer getaway or a cozy holiday retreat. It's a 3 block walk into town and a short bike ride or drive to all the area beaches, wineries and treasure finding.

The Captain’s House is in the perfect location for those who’d like to leave the car at home and wander into town to visit shops, wine bars and restaurants. It's even a 10 minute walk from or the Jitney/train.

There are three bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with 2 twins or king and a smaller 3rd bedroom with a full bed) and two full bathrooms, one with a washer/dryer that is on the ground floor. There are two comfortable living rooms, one with a fireplace and large color TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Smart TV as well as a selection of puzzles and board games for all ages. There is a TV in the master bedroom as well. Attached to the living room is a formal dining room with a farm table that seats 8 for those chilly or hot evenings better spent inside.

For the ultimate chef, the home has a fully stocked kitchen with Cuisinart appliances, a Garland stove, every utensil imaginable as well as all dining-ware. There is no need to bring sheets, towels or beach towels, it’s all here. For those with small children, note that I do not toddler-proof the house, remove the nicknacks, etc. so keep that in mind when renting!

There is a very large and beautifully landscaped backyard complete with a 'Secret Garden" hidden in the far back of the property overlooking a zen fountain. Attached to the house is a back deck with a charcoal and a gas grill and an outdoor garden shower. Dining al fresco with friends and family a the patio dining area allows room for entertaining.

* PLEASE NOTE: Beaches are open to renters with permit. I would need to notarize a rental permit, so please let me know in advance if you would like to get one. It is $300 for 3 days or 3 months, and the name on the agreement needs to match the registration. I have also included some beaches that do not require a permit.

Our part of four adults plus one canine family member had a perfectly lovely stay for a week. Couldn’t ask for better. Quiet, well-appointed, very comfortable, all of the positive superlatives apply. Excellent location, many things we were interested in exploring were walkable. We all agreed: Impossible to overstate how nice this was.

This home and it’s setting and accommodations were second to none, combining the latest modern conveniences - a gourmet chef’s kitchen, opulent bathrooms, hotel bedding - with authentic old world charm including period furniture, wide oak floors, exposed beams and hidden art-filled nooks and crannies you can only find in an early 19th century Sea Captain’s home. All that and a hidden koi pond garden and lovely outdoor entertainment space just a 5 - 10 minute walk from everything Main Street Greenport has to offer. This gem made for a magical stay and left this guest extremely envious of the owner’s exquisite taste in comfort and fine living!

The house was absolutely charming, cozy and the decor so interesting and very well put together. Everything you could possibly need was provided. In addition the gardens in the back of the house were really beautiful and provided a peaceful place to read any of the wonderful books found throughout the house. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would not hesitate to book it again in the future! Very nice!

Great North Fork Getaway

Great house with a beautiful garden in a fantastic location in Greenport. Perfect balance of short walk into town and enjoying all that the North Fork has to offer within a short drive. Three adults stayed comfortably and enjoyed a relaxing long weekend. Would definitely stay again!

Great Time is Greenport at this charming home

Easy walk to town

What a beautiful house to stay! The interior design and decorating are just stunning and the backyard oasis is amazing. It’s only a couple of blocks to downtown Greenport and the perfect location to set off each day for wine tastings. We love traveling with our two small dogs and we’re so grateful to be able to bring them. It made our entire week in Greenport all that much better!

Great house near everything!!

We stayed at this house for 3 days at the beginning of the season. It’s very close to everything in town and was very thoughtfully designed and maintained. It was absolutely perfect, especially the amazing garden. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Oasis in Greenport

We had a wonderful stay at Marcia’s beautiful house in Greenport. Marcia was incredibly welcoming and accommodating and the house was perfect for our trip. The location is ideal - a short walk to everything the NoFo has to offer. Marcia was very responsive and gave great recommendations. We will definitely be back!

Perfect Location with Amazing Backyard

We stayed for a week and enjoyed every single thing about this home! The house feels loved and lived in and makes you feel like you’re staying with friend or family, not a sterile rental! The bedrooms are all a good size and beds were all very comfortable! The gorgeous renovated kitchen was a joy to cook meals in and the backyard was perfect! We enjoyed days and nights on the deck and in the secret garden! The location was perfect for walking to Front St restaurants and shops, ferry to Shelter Island and LIRR station. Hosts were so quick to respond and answer any questions that came up! Would definitely stay again!

Best House Ever

Best house we ever rented. VRBO listing does not do justice to the house. It was fabulous, awesome decorations, something new every time we turned around. So much so, we hated to leave even to go out to dinner. The owners truly took pride in the house and maintained its historic charm in every room.

Great place despite the weather

We stayed at the Whaling Captain's home during a unseasonable rain storm. Though the weather outside was frightful, we stayed nice and cozy inside the house. Unfortunately, we were not able to do much with the beautiful backyard, but perhaps that will be for another stay. Thumbs up, Five Stars, all that good stuff.

Beautiful house in perfect location

This is an amazing house in a great location. Walking distance to main streets of Greenport and quick drive to beaches. We had a lovely time and the house is stunning. The garden is amazing. We didn't have great weather the whole time or we would have spent more time out in the garden. My kids say they want to live in the house they liked it so much! Thanks Marcia (and also Rosita).
