Gorgeous 1BR apt/Capitol Hill/Eastern Market Entire rental unit in Washington

There is truly no better location in the city! The flat is a light-filled and airy English basement with two private entrances. Amenities include kitchenette, Keurig coffee maker, private bath, cozy living room, queen size bed in bedroom, and a queen size memory foam sofa bed in living area. Walk to historic Eastern Market to shop for unique foods and antiques. Walk or metro 12 blocks to Capitol, the White House, Smithsonian, and the Mall.

Our home has 3 floors. Owners occupy 2+3. Guests occupy all of the first floor.

Guests enjoy full access to the entire lower level as well as garden and patio. The kitchenette includes a microwave and Keurig.

Please note that the fireplace pictured is strictly ornamental. It is not operational.

No smoking (including e-cigarettes) or open flame candles of any kind allowed on property.

No overnight unauthorized guests. Exceptions can be made prior to arrival.

We had a wonderful stay at Paul and Judy’s place! Our flight got in late, so it was such a thoughtful touch that they had bottled water waiting for us when we arrived. The home had everything we needed to feel comfortable during our trip, and the location was perfect — centrally located to all the places we wanted to visit. Paul and Judy were great hosts, and we would absolutely stay here again!

The only thing wrong was the air conditioner was loud, waking us up and it was hard getting in and out of the bed because of it very tight. Host was very accommodating and always got back to us when we asked questions.

Great location - easy access to transit, groceries, restaurants, laundry service etc. We used as home base while we explored Washington DC. It worked out well for us. We used Uber and public transit (which was very effective) to get around and local laundry service. Not sure how easy it would be to park if you had a car. Hosts were responsive to all questions. Everything was clean and comfortable. Very much enjoyed our stay.

Overall, really liked this place! Very close to restaurants and Metro station to get all over the city. Very clean and everything that we needed. Our only issue was that we could really hear the hosts walking, talking and doing things upstairs. I understand they live above and just living life but we were surprised how much noise and talking and TV we could hear. Lots of chairs scraping across floor and just footsteps back and forth. Just something to know if that sort of thing is something that matters.

My stay at Paul & Judy's apartment was wonderful. The apartment was very clean. I felt very safe and comfortable. The location is perfect and very close to restaurants, grocery stores and the metro. I would absolutely consider staying there again the next time I'm in DC.It wasn't a big deal for me at all, but maybe for future guests, you could provide a kitchen towel (instead of paper towels) for cleaning up, a small cutting board and a cutting knife (for example, to cut cheese, fruits and veggies).

This was the perfect location to be near the Marine Barracks. Easy walking distance to it, Eastern Market metro stop, Trader Joe’s, and several restaurants made it the ideal choice. It’s a cute area filled with adorable homes. That being said this is the lower level of someone’s private older home so there was a bit more noise than I anticipated(think chairs sliding across the floor, overhearing phone conversations, pots and pans in the kitchen as dinner is being made, the gentle chime of a clock at 6am). Nothing intentional or outrageous just normal living sounds. It was manageable and I’m sure they could hear us as well. Just worth noting if you’re sensitive to that or expecting a serene environment. The space was updated and had everything we needed for a two night stay. One other note is the pullout sofa was exactly what you’d expect. I ended up pulling the mattress onto the floor and sleeping that way as the frame was bent, very squeaky,, and uncomfortable. My friend had no problem with the bed. No surprise and I’m not complaining as I knew what I signed up for offering to take the pullout, but I’d plan to only use the bed, not the sofa, if you’re considering a stay. The hosts were kind and very accommodating and I would stay here again.

We're so glad we stayed at this beautiful apartment in the Capitol Hill area. The hosts happened to be in the unit above when we arrived; they greeted us and kindly offered assistance if we'd needed any at check in. The apartment was nicely decorated, comfortable, and clean. Wi-fi worked great. This location was perfect for our 3-night DC stay. There are lots of delicious restaurant options, retail shops, parks, museums, activities, etc. all conveniently within walking distance. The Eastern Market metro stop is just a couple blocks away. While we never moved our car during the stay, having a parking spot in front of the apartment was a huge plus.

What makes this property unique

We are in the historic district of Capitol Hill. Owner Robert N. Harper hired architect B. Stanley Simmons to build the house in 1898. The building permit listed an estimated cost of $7,000. Except for the brick walls, the house was entirely renovated in 2018, the year we purchased it. The house faces the "Hill Center"— originally a Civil War hospital built circa 1865 which occupies that entire block.

In our view, 923 E ST SE is one of the most secure homes on Capitol Hill. In addition to our 3 security cameras, our property is surrounded by a six-foot brick wall topped by an additional three feet of iron bar railing. We feel secure in our home and we are confident are guests feel the same way.
