Deluxe Tree House 1 Hour from Toronto

Surrounded by nature, this 2 room cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway. Cantilevered over the valley in a beautiful forest, the large windows and screened in porch put you in the crown of the trees. The house was owned by iconic Canadian "Father Goose" Bill Lishman, the inspiration for "Fly Away Home".

The space
The tree house cabin is isolated on a ridge with no visible neighbours. Most of the year vehicles can drive right to the treehouse followed by a short 50 meter walk up a hill. In the winter you will need to hike back through the woods and we can deliver your bags by snowmobile. The treehouse consists of a main living/sleeping room (with a small washroom) and a large screened in porch overlooking the valley. Power is supplied by solar panel and wind turbine, enough for lighting and to charge devices. Located on the Oak Ridges Moraine, the location is perfect to escape from the city. For those who wish to hike, snowshoe or mountain bike there are many trails through the surrounding forests. A small woodstove (firewood supplied) provides warmth and a place to heat the kettle.

A park-style barbeque is supplied (wood available) and a picnic table/bench for outdoor meals.

* It is very important to note you will be responsible for feeding the wood stove. Wood is provided. Fire will be lit before you arrive but you must keep adding wood.
Guest access
On request and depending on availability, guests may be offered a tour of the unique Lishman earth integrated underground home, featured on many television programs, YouTube videos and Canadian Geographic and Hello Magazine.
Other things to note
The climb to the treehouse is short, but quite steep. Appropriate footwear is recommended.

Our check-in experience was effortless, as we did not need to exit our vehicle. We were welcomed upon arrival and a fire was prepared for us. The treehouse was a true representation of its name, providing a peaceful, cozy, and picturesque environment. The inclusion of a hammock was a pleasant surprise, the bed was comfortable, and the property offered numerous points of interest. We will certainly return.

We stayed the night in this tranquil treehouse and it was truly a magical experience. The patter of rain dancing on the metal roof created a symphony of tranquility that enveloped us in a sense of peace and relaxation. As we drifted off to sleep to the soothing sound of the rain, it felt like a moment frozen in time, a memory of a lifetime. The unique setting of the treehouse, nestled amidst nature in its beauty added to the overall charm of the experience. Waking up refreshed, we felt a deep connection to the beauty of the natural woods around us. It was a night to remember, a perfect blend of comfort, serenity, and nature's melody.

This unique property is where famous Canadian sculptor, filmmaker, author and ultralight pioneer William Lishman lived. The Hollywood movie "Fly Away Home" is based on his life and adventures raising Geese and imprinting them to fly with his ultralight aircraft. The Tree house was built for him as a space to get away and write, design or just relax and play some poker with friends. It is a lovely space with an incredible view, though technically not a "tree house" it is built on a steep hill and feels like you are living in the trees.

This is a very quiet property removed from the noise and chaos of modern urban or suburban life, no close neighbours to hear or judge you!

What makes this property unique

This beautiful property on the oak ridges moraine has rolling hills and a gravel pit that was used to excavate earth for the Port Perry causeway. It has several km of trails through pine, cedar and mixed hardwood forest. The trails are interspersed with hidden sculptures made by various artists, and a runway with the ultralight aircrafts used for the film. At the top of the hill is a unique underground home designed and build by William Lishman, Tours are available on request.
