About this property
Pet-friendly Bucksport gem with hot tub! One hour to Acadia NP! Sleeps 8!
Sunny comfort & charm, centrally located in the village of Bucksport on a quiet, dead-end street. Surrounded by gardens that bloom all summer and is peaceful in the colder months. Private back deck with hot tub, small fenced in back yard!
One hour to Camden, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, & Acadia National Park, 30 minutes or less to Bangor, Belfast, Blue Hill, Castine, & Ellsworth. Lakes nearby for close water access, too!
Pets allowed with an additional $150 pet fee.
Where you’ll stay: From the front door entry, enter into an open floor plan on the first floor, with dining room and a piano. (Coming soon and not yet pictured - new dining room table, with one leaf to expand, 4 new chairs, and bench seat). The vintage dining table has 3 leaves to expand, with 6 chairs. You can use the piano bench or 4 folding chairs to seat extra. The dining room also contains the 'craft cabinet', with art supplies.
Just past the dining room, a large kitchen includes a island with gas cook top, wall oven, large fridge/freezer with water dispenser (ice maker doesn't always work, ice trays provided), microwave, and new dishwasher - with everything needed to cook a great meal (drip coffee maker, toaster, new pots and pans, etc).
One step down from the kitchen, the large sun filled living room is bright and open, with cathedral ceilings, and includes a bluetooth stereo system, record player (with a surprisingly large collection of vintage country albums!), books for adults and kids, lots of board games, and a flatscreen TV for streaming (no cable service). Entry to the back deck is from the living room.
2 smaller bedrooms on the first floor, each with a Double bed, share a small bathroom with shower stall - built in potty seat for small kiddos! One is more kid oriented, with a bean bag chair for lounging. Laundry and cleaning supplies located in mudroom off the kitchen.
Upstairs find a primary bedroom with King bed, window A/C unit, an electric desk for sitting or standing for remote work (great WiFi!), and en-suite bathroom with separate shower stall and soaking tub (jets do not function on this tub). Graco Pack and Play with bassinet, mattress, and sheets located in closet. The second large upstairs bedroom offers a Queen bed, window A/C unit, with sitting area (small Twin sofa bed best for children) and TV for streaming. All four bedrooms have their own closets and ceiling fans.
A/C located only in the living room (wall unit) and 2 upstairs bedrooms (window units). Radiant Floor heat on 1st and 2nd floor keeps the whole house cozy during chilly weather, plus the split level pump warms the living room.
Off the living room, enjoy the large deck with privacy walls, propane grill, and built-in hot tub that seats 4-6 comfortably. A small fully fenced back yard space allows freedom for your pets or children to play. Past the fenced area is the veggie garden and open back yard which backs up to a wooded area. Cornhole game for the backyard, too! Even though we’re right in town, you’ll find lots of birds visiting - and may catch sight of the local Ospreys as they love fishing in the river and bay just down the hill. Look for their nest by the bridge as you're leaving Verona Island! We have also seen fox, skunks, raccoons, and have chipmunks visit often. We are a pollinator friendly property, and practice organic methods, with no use of pesticides or fertilizers. Because of this, with the gardens, bees and other bugs are common outside during warmer months.
Plenty of off street parking. If you don't feel like adventuring to other areas, Bucksport's main street is a 15 minute walk away, where you can access the pretty Waterfront Walkway with views of Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. The Miles Lane trail system is also very close by for walking or trail running. A grocery store and pharmacy are near, as well as several restaurants and fast food places. Check out the local happenings - there are often events happening in town, including the Bucksport Bay Festival in late July, Wednesdays on Main events, and movies at the sweet little Alamo Theater in town. The Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust's "Wildlands" in Orland offers trails for hiking and biking (10 minute drive). Our favorite swimming spot is the Craig Pond beach, 15 minutes away.
Garage not for tenant use. There is one exterior camera located on the garage, pointed towards the driveway and not monitored during your stay. You're welcome to enjoy the gardens during the season, picking a bouquet of whatever is blooming - look for herbs for cooking!
For winter bookings - Ice, snow, and bad weather are a part of Maine winters, and sometimes last well into April and early May. We’re understanding if travel plans need to change due to storms. Being close to town, power outages do sometimes occur, but usually is restored quickly, although it isn’t always the case. We will leave a couple snow shovels for your use and have someone to plow the driveway/shovel the walkways, but we may not be able to have someone available DURING a storm to shovel. Being close to the main road (which is well maintained), it’s not hard to get a car out of the driveway, but if we get a lot of snow you may need to shovel a bit! About the host
Hosted by Nikki Hooper

Growing up in the mountains of North Carolina, I've lived in Maine since 1998. My husband Ezra and I have a blended family of 5, who are all growing up fast! We're passionate about good food, good music, being kind, and have loved gardening and raising chickens over the last few years. For the past 7 years I've worked vacation home rental agent on Mount Desert Island, and love helping others fall in love with the coast of Maine!
Why they chose this property
Peaceful and calm, but close enough to get to many different areas along the coast of Maine!
What makes this property unique
We love enjoying the hot tub or soaking up the sun-filled living room listening to records playing.
