About this property

Beautifully Renovated Classic Vermont Lake View Cottage

Centrally located in the heart of Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, The Honeymoon Cottage is the ideal place for family vacations, honeymoons, hiking/kayaking/biking adventures, fishing trips and more!

The Honeymoon Cottage was built at the dead end of a dirt road as a guesthouse in 1930 as part of a resort along the lines of the Patrick Swayze Dirty Dancing movie, in which people from away would rent a cottage with access to a mess hall, roller rink, tennis courts and of course the beach.

Only vestiges remain with the kind of privacy, views and open space that you would expect. Many of the larger houses were torn down, including the main house to the Honeymoon Cottage.

We tried to save it, but it was too far gone and we had to tear it down in 2018. Now there are only a handful of places left in the association.

The Honeymoon Cottage is the very last cottage at the dead end of a quiet dirt road with spacious grounds and the best views in the whole association. We may rebuild the main house some day, but right now we love the large lot and privacy!

Named The Honeymoon Cottage because of it's doll house look, diminutive size and complete privacy, this is a classic Vermont seasonal cottage completely renovated in 2016. It has been outfitted with modern conveniences without losing the country charm that relaxes you the moment you step in the door.

The Honeymoon Cottage has one bedroom with a queen size bed and a small bunk room with built in bunk beds and french doors leading to a brand new deck with panoramic views overlooking the lake and mountains. There is one bath with a walk in shower. It can sleep 2 adults and 2 children comfortably.

Where the main house once stood, we have built a large dog yard. Inquire about it if you want to bring pets!

Sitting on top of a knoll which overlooks the lake to the famous Willoughby Gap and mountains, this comfy cottage rests at the end of a short dead-end dirt road so it received ZERO through traffic. With all the amenities needed to make it the perfect seasonal getaway for family and friends, why stay anywhere else in Vermont!

The Honeymoon Cottage has a cozy dining table with umbrella on the deck with great morning views perfect for enjoying a quick breakfast before you head down to the sandy beach to the lake for swimming, fishing or boating. We keep our canoe at the beach and you are welcome to use it -- or bring your own boat as the public fishing access is only a mile away with free parking. There's also ample seating around the firepit - the perfect place for a sunset bonfire.

The fishing access with boat launch is just minutes down the road and there are two large public beaches in addition to our small private one. There are several small country stores where you can stock up on fishing supplies, beach gear or just stop for a pizza, soft serve ice cream or deli sandwich and a bar and restaurant nearby. You do not have to drive into town!

Awesome place and owners!
The cabin was a perfect place to stay. The views and property are amazing. My dogs loved the fenced in area. I cannot recommend this place enough. Tim was a great host and made sure to stop by and say hello and to check that we were okay.

Accessible
Took my elderly mother to see the early fall leaves. The property is largely accessible for someone who uses a walker. There are a couple of steps into the cabin. In the cabin the doorways are wide enough for a walker. The shower is walk-in (no grab bars of course). We brought a small portable raised toilet which worked well. The view from the deck and porch is lovely. The dogs loved the dog pen area. I was concerned about possibly being cold given it’s shoulder season, but the cabin was toasty with the gas fireplace. We could drive down/across 5A to the small private beach for canoe access (though my mother didn’t do that).

We had a lovely stay
Quaint cottage with gorgeous views. The dog yard and gated porch made it perfect. Comfy! Deer, ducks, geese and loons! The weather was chilly and the fireplace made it cozy. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Why they chose this property

This property was an irresistible purchase -- a small neglected guesthouse next to a fallen in main house with beautiful bones that needed to either be torn down or a get complete restoration. It is located in an ideal location with views hardly ever available for purchase these days and we just had to buy . The cottage took a year to complete, but efforts to save the main house were unsuccessful. We finally tore it down in 2018 and put in a drilled well.

What makes this property unique

Guests who stay at The Honeymoon Cottage are able to see the beauty of the Northeast Kingdom in it's entirety while enjoying peacefulness and privacy. We have a resident fox and ground hog. You may even see deer in the front yard!
