The house was beautiful and clean. Everything was as described in the listing. Owner was helpful and clear with all instructions. Kitchen was well stocked, linens provided, and boat house had chairs to use. We will definitely stay again!

About the host

Host profile image
We’re a family of five based in Northern Virginia who fell in love with Smith Mountain Lake after years of searching for the perfect getaway. We finally found it in October 2024—a place that felt just right for our family’s needs and values.

Don and Monica are originally from the Midwest (Chicago and Detroit) and, though we've lived in Northern Virginia for over 20 years, we still carry that Midwestern spirit of warmth, simplicity, and hospitality.

We have three children, our youngest is in middle school and our oldest attends the University of Lynchburg—just about an hour away—where she plays on the women’s soccer team.

This home has become a special retreat for us: a place to reconnect, recharge, and soak in the beauty and peace of lake life together.

Why they chose this property

We chose this neighborhood after an extensive search for the right place. Many lakefront homes we visited felt overly ostentatious—more like second homes than true lake retreats. We weren’t looking for luxury or a fixer-upper; we wanted something well-maintained and move-in ready—a comfortable, authentic lake house that embraced the lake life. This property fit the bill perfectly.

It was also important to us that the walk to the water was short and gentle, not long or steep. We wanted a dock with deep water at the end—perfect for jumping in—while still being able to wade in from shore without stepping into muck or seaweed. The Isle of Pines subdivision sealed the deal with its peaceful setting, walkable access to community amenities, and spectacular lake views—without the noise or traffic of a busy main channel.

What makes this property unique

What makes this home truly special is how rare it is to find all the key elements of ideal lake living in one place. There are few homes at Smith Mountain Lake that offer the complete package: a gently sloping lot that makes access to the water effortless, uninterrupted views of the lake that bring serenity every day, and a peaceful setting tucked just off the main channel—calm and quiet, yet never far from the action.

Add to that a private sandy shoreline—perfect for wading, swimming, or just relaxing at the water’s edge without muck or seaweed—and a dock with deep water for jumping in or floating the afternoon away. Combine this with walkable access to community amenities like tennis courts, walking trails, and a boat launch, and you have a rare blend of beauty, convenience, and lifestyle. It's not just a lake house—it's a place where lake life comes easy.
