We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the China Mountain House. The view was awesome! Gary is a wonderful host. We enjoyed our trip into Bandon and Port Orford. We hope to get back for a longer stay soon.
We had the most amazing trip to the southern coast of Oregon. Gary was a wonderful host and we loved staying at his beautiful home - absolutely spectacular views from the floor to ceiling windows. Port Orford is an unspoiled gem. Easy access to beautiful beaches, hiking, golf and other adventures. We loved the Rogue River jet boat tour. Highly recommend this stunning VRBO.
Very clean, kitchen was very well stocked, furniture and art is distinctive. The property is so unique and pleasurable to stay in. The view from the back bedroom is impeccable and was the highlight of my stay. I felt I was in another world and wished I had booked a longer stay. Gary did a wonderful job checking me in.
The house is as beautiful as it appears in the listing. The views are spectacular and the artwork is stunning. Every kitchen item you might need is provided. The host, Gary, was available and easy to work with. Easy drive to town and beaches.
I appreciated the peaceful vibe of this beautiful home. The ocean view is spectacular. One of my highlights included watching the stars at night through the tall windows. The resource list that was provided to me was so helpful. I took a tour on the Rogue River and had an incredible experience.
Beautiful modern home, with an even more beautiful view, in a very quiet location. The highlights were the unobstructed sunset view and the massive movie screen for entertainment in the evenings. Bring Blue Rays! If there were one criticism, it is that I would have preferred more window coverings to provide full privacy from the neighbors. Otherwise the house is beautiful, unique, and amazing.
What an amazing place to stay! The view from the master suite is breath-taking. How wonderful to wake up with the ocean and the trees as the first thing you see! The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. The bed was very comfortable. The master bath has a tub large enough for two, a large shower with 3 showerheads, recessed lighting and windows that are filled with views of trees. There is beautiful modern art and lots of books. We were happy to just hang out in this amazing house! The area is filled with lots of beaches, and it is a short drive to the fabulous Robert Boardman Scenic area, Bandon, and many other coastal towns. We hope to return again soon.

Just as advertised, great getaway, thanks Gary
Two couples of old friends shared China house for three nights in March. Gary kept the introductions to the house and Port Orford simple and spot on accurate. Then we were on our own- exactly what we wanted.
The house is striking in many ways. Elegant yet approachable, Hidden yet close-in, Functional yet artistic. Port Orford itself is scenically spectacular, friendly, tight-knit, and again- approachable. We hung out and got to know the people at every stop.
Great trip. We hope to visit again before too long. Thanks to Gary, the Hawthorn Clan (Redfish). Mr. Ed, the Crazy Norwegian, and the crew and "guard" dog on the docks.
Only downside noted...
the CD/DVD collection is so extensive that the best approach is a random draw . Too many choices. Good reminder though- you are on the OR coast. Listen to the waves and hummingbirds. Watch the whales and the sunsets.
Lovely location & property in general. Was disappointed in the movie screen setup (complicated accessibility-definitely not user friendly). Staircase railing had a gap at second floor level, making it dangerous.
We had a wonderful stay in Port Orford. We love visiting the southern coast. The jet boat ride in Gold Beach was fun! Our last night dinner at Redfish on the patio watching whales in the cove was the perfect end. The views of the ocean from the house were spectacular! We had some fog but typically we were above it and it was still sunny and beautiful on the deck. Gary was so helpful checking us in. We loved the blue tooth speakers upstairs and downstairs. Movies on the projection screen a few nights were fun too! We enjoyed our day in bandon too. We definitely kept busy!
This property has so many superlatives: awesome architecture and design, unspoiled ocean view, top-quality furnishings, and everything designed to make for a relaxing, rejuvenating stay.
Phenomenal home. We had a beautiful weekend at the China Mountain House. The weather was perfect, the home was as nice as the website photos. Gary was responsive when we had questions about the property. We will definitely be back.
As a prelude, I had just had my hip replaced 3 weeks prior to this trip. This is only relevant because I needed 3 weeks recovery in order to make it up the significant stairway between the first and second floor in this amazing house. It is 20 steps. But it’s worth every single one. I think this is probably the best vacation rental my husband and I have ever stayed in. Modern, sleek, well appointed and with great electronics. But nature really steals the show here. The views of the ocean and Tichenor Rock will transfix you. You will take a lot of photos. And if you’re lucky enough to to have a clear night, you will remember what the Milky Way looks like. Thanks again Gary. We will be back.
A beautiful home in a beautiful location. The China Mountain House is a gem. Comfortable but elegant and architecturally unique. The house Is well equipped and the view cannot be beat. The owners were warm and accommodating and their property is filled with a positive, welcoming energy.
Once you leave this wonderful home, you will dream of returning. My husband, daughter and I spent the last week of June 2020 exploring coastal Oregon. We had an amazing time. This is a laid back, friendly area with great hikes and places to explore. The home is amazing. If you are a late sleeper, you may want to bring eye shades ,as the master bedroom is very light early in the am. I am an early riser and didn't mind at all. If you have folding chairs, you may want to bring them to enjoy your morning coffee on the glorious deck. It was our favorite part of the day. Gary was an amazing host....quick to respond to questions. We will be back next year for sure!
This home was very clean and comfortable. It had a fantastic view of the Pacific. I am not used to not having privacy windows or curtains in the bathroom but we adjusted. There was plenty of music and movies to choose from at the home. There was also lots of kitchen gadgets, appliances, spices, condiments, tea and coffee left for us at the home. We really did not need to bring anything but food and beverages for our stay.

Fantastic stay at China Mountain House
We stayed for 2 nights at China Mountain house with our dog and had an excellent stay. The house itself is ultra modern and trendy with stunning views of the coast line and bay. We met Gary the owner to check in which was smooth and helped to explain the in house technology and show us around the house which is stunning. There are plenty of local hikes and beaches to visit whilst staying at the house but the real beauty of this home is the wonderful view and entertainment system. The house comes to life at night with a huge cinema setup in the living room and once it gets dark it is like sitting in a planetarium with unbelievable backdrop of the stars - we’ve never seen so many. There is a big library of films and music for the cinema and sound system and it is possible to plug your own phone, tablet, pc or games console into the system for your own content using hdmi or usb cables and playing computer games on the huge screen was a lot of fun.. The home is also well accommodated and a short drive to local restaurants and shops and is well shielded from neighboring properties. Overall we had a fantastic stay and wish we could have stayed longer - thanks Gary for sharing your home with us it is beautiful by design.
