LOCATION
Our location has been a favorite for park visitors looking to unwind in peace while staying close to both Sequoia and Kings Canyon entrances without giving up the comforts and conveniences of town- groceries, dining, reliable WiFi and proximity to airports.
Guests with two-day park itineraries will find our location the perfect home base especially in summer (June-September), when the South Entrance & vicinity via Highway 198 can face intermittent wildfire closures and power shutoffs. The parks can often be accessed instead through the North Entrance to Kings Canyon via Highway 180, offering a scenic and reliable alternative.
- 10 minutes to Exeter, Woodlake, and Farmersville for dining and takeout
- 15 minutes to downtown Visalia
- 17 minutes to Visalia Municipal Airport (VIS)
- 55 minutes to Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT)- 10 minutes to Woodlake Botanical Gardens, featuring seasonal blooms and peaceful walking paths
- 8 minutes to Kaweah Oaks Preserve, a favorite for birdwatching and sunset photography through one of the last remaining valley oak riparian forests in the San Joaquin Valley
A proximity map is included in the photos to help you plan your travel.
DRIVE TO THE SEQUOIAS (SOUTH ENTRANCE)
CA-216 winds through the orchards nearby, a scenic two lane highway surrounded by farmland and citrus. In about 15 minutes, you'll reach CA-198 bypassing the city traffic of Visalia, Farmersville and Exeter. As you climb, you’ll drive around Lake Kaweah with amazing views and plenty of spots to stop for photos with the beautiful lake in the background winding through the Sierras. The road gets windy above the town of Three Rivers once you enter the Sequoia park.
Total drive time to south entrance 40 mins approximately.
Total drive time to General Sherman Tree 1.5 hrs approximately.
DRIVE TO THE SEQUOIAS (NORTH ENTRANCE)
Our favorite side! Start your park adventure with a drive to the north entrance via Highway 180- a scenic, easy route that’s less windy and less crowded than the southern approach. It’s a great option for a relaxed first day, especially if you’re looking to avoid the busier areas of the park.
You’ll pass through the rustic California countryside with rolling hills, old barns, citrus and olive groves and views of the San Joaquin Valley especially beautiful during sunset on your way back.
This entrance leads to the awe-inspiring General Grant Tree, a living National Shrine honoring fallen soldiers, and to the dramatic canyon overlooks that make Kings Canyon so unforgettable.
The north entrance makes for an ideal Day 1 itinerary, leaving Day 2 open to explore the iconic General Sherman Tree and the Giant Forest via the southern route (or the other way round!).
Total drive time to General Grant Tree - 1.5 hrs approximately.
THE SPACE
The cottage is detached from the main house, wholly fenced in with its own covered parking, patio, living quarters, private entrance and a small front yard.
Designed with intention to get back in touch with your zen, the cottage is nestled by the trees away from the road, and with bedroom views of the garden and orchard on 1.5 acres of private land.
Upon entering (step-free access), you will find a stocked kitchen with a 4-stove gas range, full size refrigerator and a small dining area with a spacious farmhouse sink for dishes or laundry. Washboard, eco-detergent & drying rack are provided for laundry the old fashioned way!
The dining area leads to the bedroom with two twin beds (or a king bed upon request), ample closet space, a writing desk, a dressing area, and a bathroom with a shower (no tub).
**PLEASE SEE THE FLOOR PLAN IN THE PICTURES.
Outside, you will find plenty of space to stretch out, walk or exercise on paved and dirt roads under the shadow of Venice Hill with views of the High Sierras.
Laundry room access provided year-round, with limited exceptions on a few days. Please inquire about availability during your stay.
